And for what it's worth. Just ONE publication reporting that a woman has committed a crime, when in actual fact it was a man, is one too many.

As if that person could patronise anyone engaging with them. Though to be fair, the purpose wasn't to patronise (I think they've given up on that since this morning, wisely), it was to deliver a deflective non answer that fills space.

I don’t expect anyone to give the benefit of the doubt to anything. Like I said before, don’t have just one source of news. Read widely. Read left, right, centre and things that would normally make you uncomfortable. If you encounter lies in some sources, doing this should equal it out.

Many posters on here read widely, including trans media and publications and things that make us "uncomfortable". It's one of the ways to ensure our own arguments are sound.

Heck, some of us even read news sources in other languages. And have the critical skills to judge them as well!

It had nothing to do with any images. Nobody had seen any images until more recently.

The suspicion arose because it was a non typical crime to be committed by a woman ( stabbing four men in public), but mostly because we have grown used to press reports using self declared 'gender identity' as an indicator of the sex of the perpetrator. This has been going on for years, at both national level and in local media reporting. Put these two things together and it now leads to suspicion.

If we cannot trust our national media sources to always correctly identify the sex of a perpertrator then people no longer trust it.

TBH the next time on any form for a shop or NHS and I am asked my sex I am going to accuse them of being "far-right" or "right-wing", because apparently asking about the sex of a criminal is now apparently that.

The starting OP was simply “A woman stabbing four men ?Or am I nasty and old?” There was no mention of the BBC or other media.

Of course, the implication was there that the ‘woman’ was not a woman at all. There had already been plenty of right-wing X posts that I’d seen by then suggesting as such, so I wasn’t surprised to see the thread. The faux “It’s the media’s fault we react this way” is curious, though, as it implies that women here don’t have much agency. This ‘BBC bad’ line is one that has been fed to you over years by trolls - so much so that you have come to believe it and repeat it. I’ve seen this occurring not only in Britain but with national broadcasters in other countries ATM, so it isn’t localised to you.

You seem to be making a few assumptions about me here. That aside, yes, these threads do make me wonder about the media literacy of some posters. It’s has always been the case that you should never trust one news site only, but cross-check on other media sites for sanity - especially if it’s a particular interest area. Skepticism is healthy, as you note, but that is not what was happening here. What happened here was an automatic jump to this is a trans woman based on the images. That is misogyny and laziness, not skepticism. Nothing to do with the BBC or anything else.

You haven’t answered my question either. Again you seem to be implying you know something about me and my history as a poster. Who do you think I am?

You won't get an honest, direct or intelligent answer. It will be some selection of "yes it is", "no it's not", "apart from that" and any kind of nonsense accusation. The purpose is obtuseness, deflection, time wasting and pushing pertinent posts out of visibility.

And to add, I've just ordered a search of news articles on order of date and the only photographs I can find (which were part of reports posted literally minutes before the thread started on 15:35 on 5th August) are the extremely grainy ones of her on the ground, face down.
You can't make anything out.
