Same thought here. The media and police have lied so many times about this sort of stuff.

Although, yes, a very unstable woman lashing out in rammed Covent Garden could easily stab four men quickly in a few seconds.

KeepPumping · 05/08/2026 16:57

murasaki · 05/08/2026 16:05

More that it would be an unusual woman who couldn't be overpowered by 4 men, but yes my post was poorly expressed.

Yes, but the men were apparently random people walking past, they were not in a group known to each other, the initial reaction would be to get away from the attacker unless trained to react/disarm an attacker? With a scissors you could have walked on a bit before noticing that you had been attacked?

Assuming every crime involving a female suspect is secretly a trans woman until proven otherwise isn't "questioning the news". It's an unhealthy obsession. You didn't wait for any facts; you jumped straight to a conspiracy theory because you're so fixated on trans people that you start imagining they're involved in crimes even when there's no evidence at all.

No, you are wrong. Dial down the outrage!

It is questioning whether the reports are using the word "woman" accurately.

Nothing to do with unhealthy obsessions, conspiracy theories, being fixated on trans people or anything else you are hyperventilating about.

It's a good thing to question the media.

Who's making up facts, all I'm reading are people lamenting the fact that when you her a report about a woman committing a crime, or in any other capacity for that matter, nobody trust that it is a women their talking about.

Nobody trusts it's a woman' because a small group of people are completely obsessed with trans people and choose to invent secret cover-ups on every thread. Pretending that self-induced paranoia is 'just asking questions' doesn't make it fact.

ThisShyTaupeFinch · 05/08/2026 16:53

GreyskySexRealistsky · 05/08/2026 16:46

You're missing the point.
Nobody has made up any facts.
It's about the word "woman" and whether the reports actually do mean Adult Human Female or a bloke who feelz like a lady.
A few years ago we wouldn't have thought to question it, and now we do.
Why is that?

There's a difference between healthy media skepticism and making up facts about a live crime because the news hasn't confirmed your specific bias yet. If the BBC isn't reliable enough for you, which 'trusted sources' are you using to verify details about an active investigation before the police have even released a statement?

Sorry, I meant to start this thread in FWR, not AIBU

I'll ask for it to be moved. It seems to have confused some.

Hmm no I've seen the images and it's not the woman I'm thinking of. There are a lot of very unwell homeless people in the Endell St hostel though.

I think I know the suspect as I spend some time in that area and she has approached me on a few occasions. Clearly very unwell. Tiny but looks drug-addled and is very intimidating.

SecretSquid · 05/08/2026 16:33

Try reading the thread again, because it is clearly NOT about blaming victims or assuming that no women can be capable of violent behaviour.
It is about the fact that the BBC is no longer a trusted news source. Well, not in my house, anyway, without checking with at least two other sources.
(That's before we consider how much news it actually bothers to report on at all.)

It was a homeless women with MH issues who was known to local businesses.

Don't let that stop your speculation though.

It’s justified scepticism though isn’t it. People didn’t come to be sceptical for no good reason. Blame the media and police for their history of trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes and being so dishonest.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 05/08/2026 16:40

Nitgel · 05/08/2026 16:21

There is a real increase of homeless people with mh issues in central london. Its depressing.

I think the Mayor changed their designation to 'unhoused' or 'houseless' or something as equally meaningless, either way there are no 'homeless people' in London any more, the Mayor says so.

finefennelfalad · 05/08/2026 16:34

St Mungo's has been named. Anyway, seeing this happened right outside the centre, it's likely connected.

SerendipityJane · 05/08/2026 16:33

ThisShyTaupeFinch · 05/08/2026 16:31

Deflecting with snark doesn't change the point; weaponizing a tragedy before the police have even named a suspect isn't debate, it's just agenda-posting. If you actually cared about the victims, you'd wait for facts.

Ah, I see the problem here. I can hold two different ideas at the same time.

I guess it's a curse.

It won't, thanks.

Ten years ago it wouldn't have occurred to people to speculate on someone's sex as reported in the media.

A decade of lying has got us where we are.

Unfortunately I agree with this.
Having learned that it's suspected to have been a locally known woman experiencing homelessness and with MH issues, I find it feasible. But my initial thought was that it was another man with a female gender identity.
And that is down to repeated inaccurate and misleading media coverage.

SecretSquid · 05/08/2026 16:33

ThisShyTaupeFinch · 05/08/2026 16:25

Really? Then why did you make this post? If you care about the victims, you wouldn't create a thread for "speculation".

BBC says two victims sent home, 2 have, effectively, minor injuries. For the benefit of the monitors I’ll loudly add THESE MEN WILL BE PHYSICALLY OK AND THAT IS GREAT NEWS. For the point of the thread - goes to show that women can’t do significat harm to men even with a pair of scissors. The harm the BBC has done to its own reputation and trust is marked. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0nk17881yo

*It shouldn't need saying here, but regardless, all thoughts prayers and sympathies to the victims, no matter the nature of the assailant."

Was this the first post to express sympathy with the men who have been stabbed?

Whereas the first post hints at disbelief that the male victims were unable to disarm their attacker, which has undercurrents of victim blaming....

I think it was. However, it does begin "It shouldn't need saying here", as I take the humanity and empathy here as a given.

My teen dc like to go shopping in the area. We're currently abroad on holiday so they are obviously not there today, but I know how worried I'd be seeing the headlines had the met up with friends in the area which they so often.

Looking at the photos in the DM article and checking google maps streteview, it appears the stabbings occurred right outside of 83 Endell Street in London, a hostel providing supported accommodation and care services for homeless individuals with complex needs. Reportedly and allegedly the victims were attacked with scissors so not a typical 'male' kind of weapon.

Make of this what you will.

The problem here, is that the "horses mouth" is the Metropolitan Police.

True they have proven to be an unreliable source at times - and frankly there are concerns about how the are run beyond that.

One of my issues with current world is I tend to believe Iran over Trump the president of the United States - TBH Iran probably not an entirely good source of information I just judge them as more reliable than US administration.

I think we can be certain that whatever the agenda of Iran, it almost certainly does not encompass the goal of making the Trump family richer and more powerful and the first monarchs of the US. Which means their have more integrity than the US political system right now.

And they are a barbaric religious regime. It shouldn't be this way round.
