Refusing to deadname or misgender people isn't a cover-up; it's basic reporting standards. If someone decided to address you as a man because they disagreed with you, you'd call it absurd.

I don't want male suspects or perpetrators called "men' in the media because I disagree with them.

I want them called "men" because that is the truth. They are males. Men.

If the media call them 'women", the media are lying to me and I will no longer trust what they say.

"I want them called 'men' because that's the truth. They're males."

The irony is that people claim they're protecting women while reducing womanhood to nothing more than biology. Being a woman is also a social identity shaped by lived experience and how society treats you. Turning it into a checklist of chromosomes and body parts strips away that humanity and reduces women to biology alone. Expecting news outlets to reduce human beings to mere livestock-style biological criteria isn't exposing media lies; it's reviving an old form of misogyny under the banner of a culture war.

The fact is that people are happy to accept that women commit crime, but trust in the media is an an all time low. No amount of BBC Verify is going to change that.

We have become too conditioned that when we hear "woman commits crime", we question if it was actually a woman because of too many past cases where it was actually a man (and a man who suddenly became trans the day before the court case).

Through work I have been to that big homeless hostel on Endell Street many times. There are lots of vulnerable people there, and lots of drugs and mental health problems. It doesn’t surprise me that something like this could happen nearby.

To continue being cynical, maybe now it's happened to me., something will be done.

Maybe I should get this thread moved (back) to AIBU 😂

ChatGPT?

Accusing people of using Al just because they write in full sentences doesn't make your argument any stronger. And using one story about a group on the Tube as proof that you can never trust a news report with the word "woman" in it is just ridiculous.

Pulling out a saved list of past cases doesn't turn wild guesswork on an active investigation into logic. Out of tens of thousands of female arrests annually, trans suspects remain a microscopic fraction (~0.3% of prisoners). Defaulting to 'they must be trans' every time a female suspect is reported isn't media skepticism-it's using a live thread to push a personal agenda.

Refusing to deadname or misgender people?

This is when a man has been arrested, charged and then suddenly decides before he turns up at court that he is trans.

Conveniently the media report on the man's new female name (which always has a different surname too). Very useful as the man's real name never appears on Google searches. Why do "trans" criminals always have a different surname?

But no one said "they must be trans"

They said "Are they trans". There's a big difference. Please at least try to understand...

Nobody trusts it's a woman' because a small group of people are completely obsessed with trans people and choose to invent secret cover-ups on every thread. Pretending that self-induced paranoia is 'just asking questions' doesn't make it fact.

I agree with this - you get the feeling some people just don’t want crimes to be committed by people not fitting the ‘all crimes are committed by xxx’ box - be that trans, certain political affiliations , immigrants or certain ethnenticities ‘ - I’m not a particularly woke person but it does irritate me that people are quick to dismiss or doubt what’s reported when vast amounts of crime are committed by people who don’t tick those boxes. Unless it’s reported otherwise then I will presume it’s a woman with MH issues.

I expect you didn't immediately trust the reporting because of this (these are only the ones I know of):

Male crimes reported as female crimes by the BBC:
Hollie/Ryder Hansom
Nicole/Kobi Earle
Joanna Rowland-Stuart (we don't even know his previous name but he murdered his partner with a machete)
Scarlet Blake/Fangze Wang
Nathan/Naomi O'Brien
Isobel Murphy
Zara Jade
Zoe/Kyle Watts
Jessica/Alan Brennan
Debra/Christopher Wright
Katie Birtles/ Robert O'Farrell

You can google these and you'll find there are murderers, paedophiles, rapists and a transwoman who stole nappies out of a bin and smeared their contents o around the site of a nursery. I know I stopped mindlessly trusting the BBC (and police forces such as Lincs, Notts and the Met who send out lying press releases) when they started this nonsense at the say-so of transactivist groups such as Stonewall and Press for Change.

Glad the victims of this knife attack seem to be physically on the mend.

YesterdaysFuture · 05/08/2026 17:10

I was sceptical when they said "woman" because of the endless false articles the media keep putting out. They have headlines like "Woman rapes" etc and show a bearded man underneath. It is the boy who cried wolf, you lie too many times and people stop believing you.

We also have Coulter's Law which is they will immediately say "White British Male" and so when they don't immediately say that, you know that it won't be. We've got the trope of "Welsh Choirboy" now thanks to the media.

worcesterpear · 05/08/2026 17:09

This was my first thought too, of course it could be a woman but I remember a few years ago when there were reports of a group of women attacking people on the London underground. Turned out to be men in skirts and high heels.

SodThisHeadache · 05/08/2026 17:08
  • To add to what I wrote above - it's not just that the BBC used female pronouns for these men - it referred to them as women, not even 'transwomen'
finefennelfalad · 05/08/2026 17:08

So, so sick of ChatGpt posts, freaking annoying. The writing style!!! I wish people would wise up to AI and at least train their own personalised agents to write in their own voice and style, to somehow keep an element of human voice on MN. It's soon Mumsnet by AI for AI.

Telling people to 'dial down the outrage' while you panic that every news report using the word 'woman' is secretly lying to you is top-tier irony.
According to official Ministry of Justice prison data, trans people make up roughly 0.3% to 0.4% of the entire prison population in England and Wales. Out of tens of thousands of offenders, it is statistically microscopic. Pretending that every reported female crime is secretly a trans person isn't 'questioning the media'.It's pure statistical delusion driven by an online obsession

Do you really want to get into those statistics?

You've missed the point of what people are saying. Just own it.

No, you are wrong. Dial down the outrage!

It is questioning whether the reports are using the word "woman" accurately.

Nothing to do with unhealthy obsessions, conspiracy theories, being fixated on trans people or anything else you are hyperventilating about.

It's a good thing to question the media.

A hell if a lot topics is the answer.
From politics to the way our very warm summer is never reported as a climate change isdue etc etc…
See Gaza p, the war with Iran etc etc etc….

So no it’s not just a gender/sex/trans issue here

Saying that the BBC don't report on weather without any mention of climate change, is like saying the BBC never talk about a licence fee.

Nearly all reports on extreme weather mention climate change.
