'Rape list' part of misogyny girls face at school

A group of teenage girls have said they feel "worthless" and "frightened" as a result of the extreme misogyny they regularly experience.

The students, from Tyneside, have spoken out after making a film about the language they endure at school and online.

Many comments are too explicit to share, but they include threats of violence and rape often masked as "banter". One girl described how disturbed she had been after a "rape list" was made by boys in her school.

The North East has the highest rate of violence against women and girls in England and charities warned unchallenged attitudes could lead to abuse in early relationships.

One girl told the BBC she felt "worthless" after learning of the "rape list" made by boys in her school.

"Boys ordering girls, who they want to rape the most and then the least," she explained.

"It is frightening because you don't know people's real intentions."

Marchant said her charity saw generations of women using its services, with breaking the cycle of abuse having to begin by educating young people.

"We're almost having 13-year-old girls being raped by 13-year-old boys," she said.

"But nobody's told the girls that boys shouldn't do that to them, and in some cases nobody's told the boys that they shouldn't."

I wish I could say I'm shocked but I'm not.
Maybe Dr Blower and his team should get into schools and start sessions for the boys in how not to become abusive, sexually harrassing misogynists.
It's as bad now as when I was at school.

Can we stop with the bollocks of somehow it is all the fault of single mothers.

There is no evidence, and in fact over recent years we have any number of example of some no well known young men that they are not part of the this gross rape culture because their SINGLE mothers have provided a childhood filled values that include respecting women.

Nearly every male in the public domain who years after they have been called out for being abusive towards women will point out that the problem was they grew up in a family where there father left porn all round the home.

And whilst it is obviously true that abuse of women and girls have gone on for centuries, it is only since the growth of porn online that we now have boys publicly celebrating and promoting rape culture.

In the past this might have been something that men and boys would perv over in secret, but now we have girls in schools having their environment tainted by brain washed young boys who overtly promote rape culture.

Even allowing for young boys being more immature, in what world does anyone think that gangs of boys intimidating young girls is "normal".

Let alone the contradictory notion that somehow this is caused by single mothers, rather than all those boys who have grown up with the contaminating influence of men ie fathers.

The world’s gone to shit.

One of the saddest things I’ve heard: I was in a pub a few years ago and a family came in. Mum, dad and a couple of young kids maybe aged 2 & 4. They sat down and the dad was on his phone and the little girl piped up ‘Is daddy looking at naughty pictures of women again’!

The internet is ruining men and, ultimately, it’s women and children paying the price.

SwirlyGates · 05/08/2026 20:46

I was on the bus the other day and a group of teenagers got on. As they were going up the stairs one of the boys said to the girl who was ahead of him and a bit higher on the stairs, something about "stick my finger up your bumhole". I thought, WTF, is this what girls have to put up with now? Does this pass for banter? They all looked to be friends, have they just normalised this crap?

VointofPiew · 05/08/2026 20:54

Maybe it could be to do with their religion or culture. What's the demographics up those parts?

I think this just sums up the problem. Over many years porn has crept into the main stream and been "normalised" and some how everyone ignores the implicit violence in it and the degradation of women and girls.

There was a short news report a couple of days ago about a man who got arrested because 2 or 3 fellow travellers on a train could see who was using AI to create child abuse images.

This is what is so enraging, is that there are now so may men and boys who assume abuse of women and children is normal.

It is just revolting that in a society that sets itself up as civilised and advanced, has so many men who are behaving like this.

And sadly too many women thinking there is nothing we can do about it. ie men will be men.

I am very sorry this happened to you @RogueFemale .

I think there is a difference in the frequency and quality of it, compared to earlier generations.

For instance, I have never been strangled while being kissed. That seems to be the new norm - consensually and non-consensually.

Also, none of my former schools ever held a parent evening about the risks of anal sex, because they had to take several girls with anal injuries to A&E the week before. Apparently this happened at a private school in my region. If a private school goes public with something like this, the situation must be truly dire.

I think a lot of parents are very naive when it comes to what their children are up to and the pressure they under.

True enough, we haven't had to deal with strangulation or anal as the 'norm'. Thank fuck. But I would say the abuse is just as frequent as it ever was. Every woman I know my age had the same thing throughout teens and twenties, regular abuse so much so that we regarded it as normal. The 13/14 yo thing I described was just the beginning. We didn't even feel that 'traumatised' by it, not on the face of it. It's only dawned on me later what the long term effect was.

93% White British and 93% Christian/no religion in teenage boys.

Not seen anybody ask the Bishops of Jarrow and Hexham & Newcastle for details of what they are doing in their communities to educate their young males, tbh. Or Councillor Paul Mackings (Reform) about how he can influence these boys to step away from their historic culture of misogyny and abuse and integrate.

It's ingrained in their culture. We should restrict their movement and have them wear some sort of visible identification so we know it's one of them

Is it anything to do with intelligence? I left school in 1975 and I was in the "A" stream. In my class the interaction between boys and girls was pretty good, very respectful, with a few going out with each other and we socialised at school discos and dances. The "B" stream was quite different, the school bullies were in that class, with a lot of detentions, fighting (including one where the PE teacher was attacked with a cricket bat), also one guy was expelled for sexually assaulting a girl.
The added problem today, is the availability of violent porn, plus the Andrew Tate effect and as others have said the lack of a responsible father figure.

I don't think so. Places like Oxbridge have been rife with misogynistic private educated rugby boys for generations. I think it's cultural; values shared by their community as a whole.

Attitudes towards girls are women are vile in this country.
I took my rapist to court in 2024 and amongst the other shit thrown at me me by his female defence lawyer was.. Can you read to the court what you were wearing that night.. A pair of hot pants and a cami top (historic case I was a teenager) She then actually asked me.. Can you not see how that might not be confusing for men?!?
Finger marks around my neck, footprints on my stomach and back, restraint cuts around my arms.. He was found not guilty.

My son went to school with a boy whose dad was a defence lawyer. I googled him and it seemed like they gave him all the rape and SA cases against men. He won a fair few of them.

The family were seen as a nice, well to do family, I would never socialise with them and didn't let my son round theirs. How can you be married to man who chooses to defend rapists who can pay him enough.

I get they’re just doing there job but Jesus.. It’s selling your soul to the devil as far as I’m concerned.
I really (naively) wasn’t expecting to have to try and defend such misogynistic crap. From reporting to the police until getting the verdict I come across some truly disturbing comments and opinions, we really do have a long way to go in this world when it comes to protecting girls and women.

I am so sorry to hear this was your experience. This is only 2 years ago.

Attitudes like that and in a court room were meant to have been got rid of at least a decade ago if not more.

So disturbing to hear it is still going on.

I hope you are able to get on with your life.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. A family member (teenager) was raped by her boyfriend. She decided not to take it to the police though because the likelihood of a win is minuscule - whereas the likelihood of her being totally traumatised by the experience is very high.

Yeah I hadn’t prepared myself for it. It was awful but I’m still here to tell the tale, I try very hard to not let it destroy me.

Every institution in this country - schools, the army, football clubs, political parties, workplaces - needs to make it crystal clear to boys and men, girls and women, that there is a ZERO TOLERANCE attitude to misogyny, harassment and sexual assault. One strike and you’re out. If you’re caught ‘joking’ about a rape list, you’re expelled/sacked. If you witness it and don’t report it, you’re in trouble too.

It won’t solve VAWG, of course it won’t. But at the moment we have cultures of impunity.

Don’t give me ‘not all men’ or ‘my son would never’. If they aren’t misogynist pricks they won’t be in trouble, will they?

Dominoodles · 06/08/2026 21:05

Dr Alex Blower, a researcher specialising in masculinity, inequality, and education, founded Boys' Impact, a UK-wide network which looks at improving opportunities for young men from working class backgrounds.

He praised the bravery of the girls for sharing their experiences and said more work needed to be done "with boys and young men to create a hopeful, values-based expectation for the type of dad, mate and romantic partner they can be".

But he said while there had been clear messaging for girls and young women about empowerment over the last 40 years, boys had been left behind.

"What we haven't done is created a parallel narrative for boys and young men surrounding what a happy, healthy, successful future looks like for them," he said.

"Instead, we've left a void, one which has been filled with nefarious online actors peddling their own narratives surrounding what a successful manhood looks like."

Blower said current interventions in schools could often start with the assumption that there was "something inherently wrong with being a boy", rather than creating conversations about the type of man they aspired to be and how they could be supported to achieve that aim.

So...boys aren't made to feel special. They're not given narratives that show what a successful future could look like for them. They turn to online misogynists to boost their feelings on inadequacy.
Because when boys (much like men) are unhappy, who do they vent that unhappiness on? You guessed it. Girls! To the point of making 'rape lists'.

Make boys happy.

Too many men and boys have a serious lack of basic human empathy towards women and girls. If it's not about them, they could not care less.

Grammarnut · 06/08/2026 21:59

This constant talk about rape has to be porn fuelled. Boys can access sites where women beg to be raped and abused, and they believe this is real. Pornographers have consistently managed to evade censorship and control by claiming 'free speech' but suggesting to boys and men that what women really want is to be raped and thumped is inciting violence, not free speech.

And it is getting worse because the message boys are getting is that rape and sexual assault are not only ok but what women want - it says so on their 'erotic' sites i.e. violent pornography sites.

I know not everyone is a fan of private schools, but getting the opportunity to go to an all girls' school for a few years was a lifeline for me. I was regularly attacked by violent older boys while waiting for the bus home from my secondary state school – and nothing was done about them. It really saddens me that there are predictions that girls' schools (private or state) may cease to exist soon, with so many merging or closing. I think it's so important for girls to have an opportunity to learn away from boys. It would obviously be better if male behaviour changed... but sadly, that seems a long way off.
