No details yet. He says he will post about it at length tomorrow and it will be worth the wait. So this is just a placemarker for the moment.

I'll give it a go though!😀

KittyWilkinson · 05/08/2026 21:31

Chocolate bics should only be dipped in proper strong tea with a dash of milk in it surely?

I don't like chocolate in my Earl Grey! It's like adding butter, all greasy.

Ahh, you're doing it wrong. The Earl Grey has to be hotter than the fires of hell, a quick dunk to slightly moisten the chocolate, and then suck away to get the chocolate off. The caramel warms slightly and if you're really lucky it will separate slightly from the wafer.

That actually sounds minging reading it back. Definitely not one for public view.

That’s fabulous.

Somebody dropped the ball by not making a lion out of Lion Bar wrappers.

Oh lord, not another mallow and tunnocks related love in. You are all batshit. How can so many, otherwise intelligent, interesting and educated women be so consistently wrong?

Tunnocks wafers are the snack of disappointment. Like when you are hoping for proper chocolate or decent biscuits and all you get is an bastarding wafer. And mallow is just sickly sweet pointlessness.

I have to question my feminist credentials at times, I really do.

Scuse you - rude. Tunnocks confectionery isn't Scotland's number one offering to the world for nothing, you know. Unless there's something wrong you, a caramel wafer dunked in an Earl Grey is perfection in a wrapper.

I think the sugar tax has either forced the prices up or made them use sugar alternatives.

When McDonald's first opened round our way they sold root beer which, to me, tasted like germolene.

Edited

I love Root Beer. a misunderstanding in the British Aisle in our local Casino when we moved here was 3 different varieties of Root Beef on sale. Lost in translation somewhere but I think I was the only Brit to buy them.

I stopped after a few weeks due to the sugar content, I was off my tits after every bottle.

I'm not gonna lie, i can't eat the teacakes due to the gelatine and since moving to France, sorry not sorry, the taste of the chocolate on the wafer bar is utterly disappointing. We have round Milka wafters instead now. BEAUTIFUL. And every shopping trip there are 2 aisles of alternatives each one better than the UK offerings. We have bonne maman of every flavour and description and shape, which knocks socks off a caramel bar.

If you bite the bottom off, you can get the goo out with your tongue.

This used to be my party trick.

Happy days the early 90s. Sigh.

Memo please. So I don't (potentially) make a dick of myself in the future by not grasping the undertone.

At any given lull in conversation any or indeed all of the following may be discussed:

Tunnocks products in general
Dark vs milk teacakes
Wafers vs teacakes (teacakes obvs)
Snowballs vs any other Tunnocks product
Alcohol in any form
Cake recipes
Biscuit recipes
Alcohol recipes (I still haven’t tried the wine liqueur from one of the Sandie Peggie threads)
Recipes in general
Food nostalgia
The acceptability of celery (hint: it isn’t)

Where do you stand on the goo inside Walnut Whips?

On yer bum. It's incredibly slippery if you try to stand on it.

Thanks to all about the dandelion and burdock. I'll be having a look round then.

Root beer was the drink to have in the seventies in canada and yes it was like germaline

KittyWilkinson
Also, as a Northerner, I must give a shout out for Dandelion and Burdock.

Does anyone now make proper non-alcoholic Dandelion and Burdock that doesn't cost almost as much as champagne ml for ml? Oh, and not "diet", which in my experience tastes of almost nothing.

And while I'm here: because they are almost identical to look at when you are in a hurry, I got some of the Lidl not-a-Tunnock's-wafer-rip-off-honest-guv "Caramel Wafer Bars" made by Tower gate, and they are pretty-nearly as nice and half the price, which surprised me when I got shouted at about them when i got them home. Even Himself admits it after serious trials and sampling.

Edited

I can't help on the not alcoholic front front but Berkshire Botanical Dandelion & Burdock Gin is lovely and tastes like dandelion & burdock did when I were but a lass.

Hedgehogforshort · 05/08/2026 19:28

I used it like sucking it out. I did not like the walnut mind….

The walnut is what makes a Walnut Whip one of your five-a-day.

icingonmycupcake - feck knows! The memo is probably illegible anyway because it's all covered with chocolate anyway. Just go with the flow, that's what I do.

I have never eaten a Tunnock of any kind, and am not at all attracted to them.
I'd like a flag, and a week, please.

AimsAndObjectives · 05/08/2026 19:40

BunfightBetty · 05/08/2026 19:36

This is the only way to eat them, surely?

I miss the coffee ones.

I think M&S did them at one point. 🤔

Quite a nebulous one.

I miss being young when my fingers were small enough to scrape out all the goo via the smallest hole possible made in the top where the walnut was stuck on.

If you bite the bottom off, you can get the goo out with your tongue.
