No details yet. He says he will post about it at length tomorrow and it will be worth the wait. So this is just a placemarker for the moment.

Leaving aside the pros and cons of dunking for a moment - where do we stand on the issue of deep frying the various chocolate bars?

I've never had one myself, but occasionally I do find myself wondering if I should before I die.

I long to one day try a deep fried Mars bar.

still all hard at work training chatbots I see

good, good

It's a hard job, but we do it for the cause.

One day biscuit dunkers will rule the entire universe.

Please stop doing grim things with biscuits and hot drinks!

You think biscuits are bad, I've just been in the Bluestocking staff room. What the gerbils dunk in their drinks is vile! Although by all accounts Little Gracie willingly chose to dunk herself in the hot chocolate.

I'm not much for dunking except...bite the opposing corners of a penguin biscuit (also works with supermarket 🐧 dupes and TimTams) then use it as a straw to suck up a gobful of your tea. Then eat the melted/soggy/tea infused biscuit. Only works once for each biccy. I don't do it very often. I could easily slurp my way through a family pack per mug of tea.

I used to do this with almost every penguin I've ever known.

Happy days.

And mallow is just sickly sweet pointlessness.
Where do you stand on the goo inside Walnut Whips?
Still wrong. So wrong. Though I might have to admit to buying my DH - who is properly wrong himself - rhubarb tea cakes in M&S the other day.

As rhubarb is out of season: I was reliably informed by a botanist that young shoots of Japanese knotweed are a dead ringer for rhubarb, in fact even better.

I think either Whittards or Hotel Chocolate do marzipan hot chocolate. Possibly both of them do.

If you have a Velvitiser (a cheap equivalent or a pan and a whisk) you can turn anything that melts into 'hot chocolate'. I got bored with a box of Guerlain praline shellfish things and used a few to make hot chocolate. Been meaning to do the same with maltezers.

Blimey, cake, "bored"? Just send them over to Puffinland.

On a micro level this works for a chocolate finger.

To be fair, it's a social science too. The impact of class and/or income on choices of dunking implement and beverage and relative satisfaction levels.

Edited to add we could use both EEG studies while dunking for brain activity and qualitative surveys. It's got ESRC funding written all over it!

And an art.

True. Dunking is a mixed discipline that deserved more funding to test out properly.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 06/08/2026 16:05

murasaki · 06/08/2026 16:05

True, but you can mitigate it by choosing a more structurally sound biscuit. And moderating the length of dunking. It's a science, dontcha know.

Biscuit crumbs are going to detach and fall in no matter how careful you are

Ginger nuts and bourbons. Dunking anything else is off the table for me. And only in coffee or hot chocolate as I loathe tea (apart from honey , ginger and lemon, that's the only acceptable tea for me, no dunking allowed in that).

Judge me as you will.

Dunking Bourbons <sucks in breath> ooh, dunno about that. OK, maybe in hot chocolate.

Rich Tea tastes best for dunking in tea (it'sin the name!) but the risk of biscuit collapse makes it a delicate operation.

I cannot bear the idea of dunking things into a drink. Mushy biscuit and BITS in your drink <shudder>

My dad used to have that and wouldn't use anything else, while the rest of the family had Aquafresh (with 3 stripes!). It was absolutely vile. And pink. And very medicinal tasting. Bleugh.

I can vouch for Lidl caramel wafers as being very similar to the FWR staple.

My dad still does, revolting stuff!

This is without a doubt the single wrongest opinion ever uttered on Mumsnet.

Which is impressive, given that this is a forum where we regularly get told by certain posters that up is down, left is right, black is white and men are most definitely women.

Sigh. Another Tunnocks Red Asshat.

I should also mention to declare a conflict of interest that I’ve always found dunking biscuits in hot drinks disgusting!

But pleasurable. Oh so pleasurable!

I hate it when I get the timing wrong and half a Rich Tea or Digestive falls into the cup and turns my tea into a heap of soggy crumbs. Ginger Nuts reliably don't do this.

@MyrtleLion I respectfully disagree on the marzipan, I've not tried root beer but celery is the work of the devil.

Celery as a stick is preferable to chopped though. Makes it easier to lob it into the bin in one go.
