I've never tried a deep fried Mars bar but I really want to. I've also heard of deep fried butter which sounds dreadful and amazing at the same time.

Oh now that sounds lovely - never thought of a deep fried Bounty, but I could definitely see that working. It would be like bringing the tropics to Scotland.

Having given it a lot of thought and serious deliberation for the greater part of the day, and having read some of the others' preferences, I have come to the conclusion that dunking is a good thing, but only with a Twix and some coffee (hot chocolate in a pinch).

Stonehaven - known for the Cutty Sark, Lord Reith, whirling balls of molten tar on Hogmanay and inventing the deep fried Mars bar.

I once had deep fried battered Mars bar nuggets served as dessert in a gastropub Scottish-themed evening. Oh, how I sneered when I read the menu. But they were actually pretty good.

Would absolutely try, it sounds lovely and summery!

Twix and coffee is my preference, but Penguins and tea are also very good. I find the chocolate coating stops the problem of crumbs in you drink.

I’ve never thought of dunking anything with wafer - I’m not sure I like the idea of that at all.

On a macro level, try it with a Twix and hot chocolate.

They are absolutely delicious. I think it's the way the caramel and chocolate go molten and gooey combined with the crunchyness of the outer batter. I'm not a fan of "weird for the sake of weird" foods but deep fried mars bars are genuinely delicious

But have you tried celery and almond soup? It is a thing of beauty.

My ex took a bounty into our local chippy at the time to see if they would fry it. They agreed they would if they could have half as there were the two small ones in a pack. Both pronounced it good.

University of Cambridge professor at the centre of a plagiarism row has resigned "with immediate effect".
On Wednesday the university said it had launched an investigation into Professor Jason Arday "following new information" about his "academic qualifications and honorary appointments".
Arday - who became the university's youngest ever black professor in 2023 - has admitted errors in his work, but said he had faced "an unrelenting level of public scrutiny and personal attack" and was not a "liar".
It came after a series of media reports questioning some of his achievements and allegations of plagiarism in his PhD thesis.
Arday said he had "concluded that the only way to bring this chapter to an end is to step away".
In the statement posted by the Good Law Project on Wednesday, Arday said that being appointed professor had been "without question, the greatest professional privilege of my life".

Well, the Met Commissioner has had to admit his force should not have acted as it did and apologise.

"Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has admitted his force "dropped the ball" when it spent four months investigating a journalist examining claims about a University of Cambridge professor embroiled in a plagiarism row.

Journalist Jack Grove said he was told by the Met it had looked into a complaint made by Jason Arday, which it closed, and that Grove should not contact Arday again.

When asked by broadcaster LBC if he should apologise to Grove, Sir Mark agreed and said the complaint should have been "screened out earlier on as not requiring investigation"."

I have been in a chip shop when someone ordered a deep fried mars bar supper: they asked for the mars bar to be kept separate from the chips, with salt and sauce only on the chips. I think I might possibly be tempted to try a fried mars bars. Maybe as a dessert? With ice cream?

See, now I think it could actually be quite nice with a bit of salt on the batter to balance the tooth rotting sweetness of the Mars Bar. Not sauce though, even though that's the only acceptable accompaniment to salt on battered savoury goods.

It just doesn't appeal. Mars bar, yes. Deep fried batter, yes. But both together? Nah.

It's like Marmite-flavoured chocolate. I love Marmite and I love chocolate but DH once bought me Marmite-flavoured chocolate and it was just not very nice. Certainly not as nice as a Marmite and butter toastie followed by a cup of tea and some chocolates (no dunking)

I was reliably informed by a botanist that young shoots of Japanese knotweed are a dead ringer for rhubarb, in fact even better.

I grew up in West Wales. We knew Japanese knotweed as wild rhubarb although nobody actually ate it.

I've heard of deep fried pizza and I think I could manage a slice of pepperoni. If a spam fritter followed by a pineapple fritter from the chip shop passed as a meal in the 70s, what's wrong with DF pizza followed by DF Mars bar?
