No details yet. He says he will post about it at length tomorrow and it will be worth the wait. So this is just a placemarker for the moment.

Probably somebody misgendered the au pair.

Heaven forbid!

Lots and lots of sirens in Bath tonight. I wonder if anyone else has been saying nasty things?

All on Landsdown Hill, so the posh bit.

What terrible TERFs we are, talking about that transphobic food butter. I hope all the TRAs and allies insist on only eating butter made from bull transcow milk.

TWETMIRF · 10/08/2026 08:24

I'm confused, are you suggesting that there are people out there who don't have butter that thick?

That's almost as wrong as just using marg! Butter has to be thick.

Are you James Martin?

I find James Martin rather irritating so no Grin

Did you know the Danes have the world “tandsmør” meaning tooth butter? It’s for when butter is spread so thickly that you leave teeth marks in it. I need to visit Denmark!

The first serious transvestite I knew well was a Mason; he used to stop at our house on his way to Lodge to change out of his unconvincing wig and stilettos and twin-set-and-pearls because the brothers wouldn't have understood. We were polite about it but tended to mutter after he'd left that we betted that they would have.

It was from him that I heard for the first time the sad complaints about how difficult it was to find size 10 stilettos.

Apart from his fetish he was a very lovely friend, and I was extremely sad when I heard a few years later that he had killed himself; he'd moved away to live in another town and rather lost touch with us, and I felt guiltily that i wished we had made more of an effort to make him feel he was still a friend in spite of us being a bit preoccupied with small children.

murasaki a bit like Brownies for grown up men
😂😂😂

I am quite happy to eat the odd bit of butter all by itself. Even better if it’s the sort with crystals of salt in it. Or black garlic butter. Or herb butter.

I just really like butter Grin

Are you James Martin?

FromFrickToFuck · 09/08/2026 08:40

The only mason I know is my step brother and he's an absolute melt. I can only imagine a room full of men like him and shudder.

BezMark · 08/08/2026 03:25

A lot of my old school friends are brothers, I'm from a village not too far from Kirkcaldy with a very old lodge. So if this guy was indeed in the craft they'd definitely know him.

I'm fairly sure they wouldn't spill any tea on him to me though, and I wouldn't presume to ask. Bro's before normo's or whatever it is they would say!

murasaki · 07/08/2026 23:56

I was surprised as I was introduced to people, as to what an influential group it was. As I'd assumed it was a bit like Brownies for grown up men, with associated rolled up trouser/handshake things instead of a woggle and silly dress. Whereas in fact they had a lot of influence, mostly used well, but....

murasaki · 07/08/2026 23:52

I wouldn't be surprised if some of it went that way.....

We may laugh at them, but it's very powerful on a local level.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/08/2026 23:51

murasaki · 07/08/2026 23:49

Yes, it was quite clear how business deals etc were done, members of the council were there etc. All calling each other 'brother'....

Wonder if that's how our council agrees such appallingly bad contracts for construction projects. They've seemingly never heard of a penalty clause for a start!

murasaki · 07/08/2026 23:49

SabrinaThwaite · 07/08/2026 23:34

I have no issue with men wanting a men only association, but if that association gives rise to men having particular protections because of that association, then that’s a real problem.

Hilarious, although not in a good way. Woman, know your place.

On the other hand, when FIL was going along to Mason’s meetings with a view to joining, MIL ribbed him so much about rolled up trouser legs and funny handshakes that he quit pronto.

Oh totally, it was mad re the absolutism of gender roles. I mean I genuinely hadn't noticed that there was a table of men's prizes and another of women's prizes until i got it wrong.

I choose to view it as a trip to a safari park.

And I did adore my friend who asked me (he died during covid) so tried to keep my laughter away from him.

That's hilarious!

The idea of the Masons does seem rather anachronistic, doesn't it?

Ah the masons. I'm sure I've told this before, but here we go. An older friend of mine asked me to go as his plus one, just friends, to his lodge's ladies night. He'd also invited another couple of friends of ours from the local. We get stuck into the wine, all 3 of us guests being a bit on edge. On my first fag break, the wives of actual masons were nice but seemed surprised I had an actual job. As they supported their masonic men. Fine with me, I said I wasn't actually with my host in that way. Dinner was the old school roast with over cooked veg you'd expect.

So far so good. Ish. Then the men all stood for the song for the ladies. Oh my sweet Lord above. I couldn't look at my friends in case we all corpsed. A whole song about how the lovely ladies kept the homes to support them doing manly things.

And then the raffle. Two tables. On the way in I'd glanced at them, and eyed up a rather nice tool kit as mine was missing a few bits after many years. My number came up! Up i trotted, and it was still there, so I headed to it. Only to be steered to the table on the right, which I hadn't really noticed was full of kitchen equipment and hair curlers etc.

I felt it only fitting to depart with a set of kitchen scales that make me chuckle every time I use them.

I remember looking up the Freemason’s trans policy a few years ago.

At that time, if a male Freemason converted to skirt go spinny they could remain a member. Transmen weren’t eligible though.

That's what I recall as well.

Officially, a man transitioning doesn't mean he has to stop being a freemason, according to the website I found. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45030075

The “Fraternity of Women Freemasons”. It’s weird that there’s no female equivalent for “fraternity” in the English language that they could use, isn’t it? FFS 🙄

Maybe the Times' picture desk didn't feel that "Jabba The Hut Gone To Seed" was what the good people of the Home Counties needed to see over their morning toast and marmalade.

That is rather kind and considerate of them.
