Amnesty apologises - "An Apology for A Growing Threat briefing, published on 8 July 2026" apology published 31st July 2026

Yes not sure how the Early Day Motion 603 that "this House expresses extreme concern at Amnesty International UK's report entitled A Growing Threat: the Anti-Rights Movement in the UK, published on 8 July" could have been initiated if the report was not promoted in any way.

Fortunately it only ever got the 6 signatures needed to actually be tabled and got no more (one assumes no one else will sign it now, but anyone who does will be revealing themselves to be an utter numty)

This deserves to be amplified. So the report made it into not only at least two podcasts but also a Parliamentary Briefing. "Not promoted' my arse.

@TheywontletmehavethenameIwant 100%. By selling themselves as a charity that provides support and hope to those with no other recourse they are no longer fit for purpose.
I used to have a regular donation to them as I would love to support an organisation that intervenes for incarcerated and desperate people in despotic places with human rights abuses. What on earth are they doing spending their time on gender wang in the UK?

I'm not expecting an explanation as to how it happened. It was obviously a lapse in judgement (they thought it was legally/socially acceptable to brand gender critical organisations anti-rights). I guess they have learnt that it is not so.

I fully expect them to continue to campaign for trans rights but to do so in more legally sound ways.

Notice they have only apologised for publishing the report, not for the contents. They recognise the concerns of those labeled "anti rights" and apologise for using the term. The apology to Beira's Place is for including them in this description.

But they have not apologised for the report or its overall content.

Apologies alongside an apology for apologising really is quite the look.

Apologies produced wholly to offset potential litigation mean diddly squat. I've no doubt it will have been made through gritted teeth, without any genuine remorse.

I really wish they'd been dragged into court. It would have destroyed them reputationally. And sent a very strong message to other charities who prioritise the 'desires' of men, over the rights of women and girls.

I think apologies are of no use unless there is an explanation of why the error was made.
It smacks of a forced sorry to avoid litigation.

I agree, if bias can be unconscious it can be blatantly obvious as well, it can colour all of the work of the organisation.

I also wonder why a Human Rights Organisation needs a Gender Director, and why the hell it's spending any time on developed worlds when there are about 120 undeveloped countries in the world that might benefit from international attention being given to the governmental abuses that are going on inside it's borders.

They need to investigate properly and that includes discovering whether Amnesty have created a culture of discrimination against those with gender critical views. Have they sent staff on training courses that promote gender ideology. Have they bullied staff over pronouns etc?

The only time I've ever seen something that I'd call a proper apology in one of these cases was from the Metanoia Institute to James Esses. So management are trying to claim it was all the fault of a high placed member of staff who acted above her pay grade when she uploaded the report she complied, and spoke about months before on podcasts.

They name check Beira's Place because of the specific threat from JKR but no mention of eg the Christian groups who didn't threaten to sue. Just goes to show how getting lawyered up works.

And they had to throw in their ongoing support for trans rights at the end.

That Reddit thread is hilarious. They actually
believe they’re an oppressed minority instead of the most pandered to group of all time.

they have received hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayer money to support men “breastfeeding”. Public money spent on supporting a male fetish and harming vulnerable babies. And they think they’re hard done by.

I missed the fact that it's from the international section, so that mitigates the fact that it took them 48hours to have it 'reported' to them, which I criticised in my previous post.

I think it was more likely the threat of a libel suit from Beira's Place that forced their hand. JKR probably has more money than AI UK.
