It's <almost> as if she <might> have something to say that <many/most/almost all> people agree with.

This phrasing of this tweet is interesting.

There is absolutely nothing controversial about Sabalenka's comments.

Perhaps the phrasing is just to get clicks, but a male player agreeing that there should be drug testing would not be described as 'giving a controversial take'.

It feels as though it's a way of masking their feelings of discomfort in excessive virtue.

Or just simple displacement. Relieve the nasty feelings by shouting at a safer target. Like the men who hit their wives when their team loses.

Although I think for many of them it is a deep unrealised misogyny. Not especially the misogyny of believing TWAW, as I don't think anyone actually believes that is the sense of thinking TW and female people are interchangeable, but the misogyny of subconsciously assuming that as men women will follow their lead.

So women disagreeing with them - and not even pretty women who have a bit of social status but old ugly ones who don't have any social status at all - that really gets them where it hurts. It's a direct challenge to a social order they don't even consciously realise they expect to be followed.

I agree, there is a distinct aura of delight obvious.

I also think that there are some men who, because of discomfort around non-conforming men combined with their self-declared wokeness, try to deny any discomfort and it shows up as over the top level of aggression towards women for not just shutting up and accepting the rejected men. It feels as though it's a way of masking their feelings of discomfort in excessive virtue.

This behaviour reminds me of religious men who insist that every part of a woman, including her eyes, must be covered by Islamic dress because otherwise when she's out in public men won't be able to control themselves because of the lust she generates. It says a lot about the lack of control in those men rather than anything about the women.

I think the one that really stands out to me was some road safety video from Australia.

TW : Car Crash (fictional but described)

The driver (young female) is driving and texting and then the whole crash happens in super slow motion, people die, it's super traumatic to watch actually. The young female driver is the only person who survives and the video snaps back to normal time with her screaming in horror and terror. Like it makes you think just how dangerous and horrific a car crash can be and that you 100% definitely do not want to be in one and 200% definitely do not want to be the cause of one.

You quite often see this extraordinary unleashing of bile towards some woman who's found herself a 'fair target' which seems out of all proportion to what she's actually done or said to have done or been accused of having done. It's like there's a delight to finally have a chance to express this pent up misogyny because 'you can't even say that anymore these days' (a phrase like I'm not racist but which almost always precedes immediate proof to the contrary).

Actually maybe this article was written in an alternative timeline where Navratilova doesn't exist. I think that is the only plausible explanation for such apparent stupidity.
