'These people'? You mean people suffering from a mental health crisis?

Hi there. Why do you think this man and the many others like him should be in women’s spaces, exactly? I think you have said on other threads that you support “trans rights” including the “right” of so called “trans women” (men) to access women’s spaces, no? Do you expect women and girls to walk on eggshells around highly volatile and unstable men like this? Do you understand that they are at least if not more vulnerable in an altercation with a large adult male? If that’s not your view, I apologise.

I agree that there’s nothing entertaining about this video.

However, the policeman was not goading this young man into anything. In fact, he used a remarkably calm voice really to start with and it was only after the young man in question repeatedly refused to follow instructions that the policeman demonstrated irritation.

Perhaps in a workplace interaction in a normal day you successfully avoid using pronouns. Well done. As for using the correct pronouns in this specific circumstance, he was doing so when calling in the incident to request backup. Fgs there was every need for the additional responders to know that it was an aggressive man involved and not a woman, which is the conclusion they’d have drawn if the policeman had said ‘she’ instead of ‘he’. The man in question was solid and looked strong.

It reminds me of the paedophile prisoner who became aggressive and racist when he overheard nurse Jennifer Melle refer to him as 'she' in her telephone conversation with a Dr to discuss his discharge. It was vital she tell the Dr his sex because discharge would involve the Dr removing a catheter via his penis.

Applesonthelawn · 23/07/2026 09:19

She wasn't out of control (which doesn't mean she isn't autistic). I've seen autistic meltdown and you can't switch it on and off like that. She was trying to manipulate a situation by using her trans characteristics because they have protected status. But she has been allowed to believe that because she is protected for being trans, she is also protected for behaving unreaonably. It's quite possible that she's both a prick and a trans woman.

BeUniqueDreamer · 23/07/2026 09:15

The only one I saw mis-gendering was the man arrested (27 years old!!!), he was mis-gendering himself. Police should’ve acted faster.
Autistic or not, other people shouldn’t be afraid of his behaviour or have to put up with it.
He needs to spend some time in a mental health unit after any prison time. (Assuming he has some prison time).

So just to be clear, you're saying we should be mocking autistic people and trans people?

People had no problem mocking the absurdity and entitlement of Rachel Dolezal

ktopfwcv · 23/07/2026 07:21

Did Rose West ever say she was a cis woman?

To be CIS i think she needs to demonstrate feminine qualities, so is multi murder particularly feminine?

Maybe she is trans then?

Agree with this.

And to the pp saying police exacerbated the situation - if I'm a professional law enforcer, being recorded, then you bet I'll speak MY truth and not someone else's delusion!

Bakeittillyoumakeit · 23/07/2026 09:11

I'm as GC as they come but I think the police could easily have deescalated this and I don't mean by calling him a her. This man may be autistic, may be mentally unwell, may be a narcissist but definitely doesn't need all this attention given to him. 'I'm dealing with a stolen car right now, you need to report the abusive behaviour to the university'. Then move on and ignore. Only if he followed and escalated did it need taking further than that.

It's like the police want to engage with him and that's just feeding and fueling his desperation for attention IMO. I appreciate he may be an easy win over trying to find who stole the car but really, what's the point? Nothing is likely to come of it and it just makes him feel more of a victim, more marginalised and more likely to be driven to extremes.

Victorius19 · 23/07/2026 09:11

Pure performance for attention. Look at me, look at me.

It's all just so exhausting that we've given seriously mentally unwell people such a platform.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 09:10

CandidLurker · 23/07/2026 08:00

At nearly 60 I’ve been subject to male aggression all my life from domestic violence in my home as a child, to a short period in a relationship myself that started to become violent, to aggression at work (men storming out of meetings, shouting, throwing things on one occasion), frequently on public transport.

And now we have to put up with the same thing but from men saying/demanding that everyone recognise them as women. The male aggression is still there.

it really upsets me to see a man going off like this. I would have felt scared to be in his vicinity. I think the police should have acted a lot more quickly than they did to remove him.

i don’t feel sorry for him even if he is autistic. Other people shouldn’t have to be fearful of him and his behaviour.

Exactly. Why are people ignoring this aspect?

PachacutisBadAuntie · 23/07/2026 09:08

Sometimes people don't have autism or a mental heath problem, they're just arseholes.

SockPlant · 23/07/2026 09:07

Wordsmithery · 23/07/2026 08:45

Mumsnet has sunk to new depths today.
@RogueFemale you've obtained footage of a highly distressed individual and posted it without their consent. You've then used it as a platform for anti-trans views. People have then pitched in, some blaming autism for the person's behaviour, others saying autism isn't an excuse. All of which is missing the actual point: THIS PERSON IS UNWELL. They don't need mockery or criticism. They need gentleness and support and treatment to help them regulate their emotions.
Shame on everybody who has used this to have yet another go at trans people.

Oh dear.

RTFT. This is a publicly available clip that is released un the name of transparency over police action.

I am no fan of the police but this bodycam us somewhat reassuring that they don't all instantly resort to bodyslamming someone to the ground or shoiting them.

This kind of clip helps when women say "no" to trans identified men in their spaces. It counters all the "but all my trans friends are gentle souls who completely pass and wouldn't hurt a fly". People can judge for themselves.

I didn't see laughter on the thread. I saw a lot of different concerns. Many for the individual throwing a spectacular tantrum.

We are allowed to speak of these things.

TheKeatingFive · 23/07/2026 09:03

RedToothBrush · 23/07/2026 08:06

Should we tolerate certain behaviours just because they are from someone who has difficulties in life? Should they get a free pass to unacceptable behaviour which is anti-social?

Absolutely not, regardless of the circumstances because these actions are having massive negative impacts on others.

Just because you are autistic doesn't mean you are incapable of managing yourself. Everyone has triggers and you have to learn to recognise them and take responsibility for your behaviour.

Yes burn outs happen but this is where it is crucial to draw lines and boundaries much earlier on in the process so you aren't getting to a point of having a full public meltdown over claiming you are female when it's fucking obvious you are male from every action and cell in your body.

Tolerating certain things and affirming them as acceptable is definitely part of the problem not the solution.

Just like even if you really really really want cake as a small child, you learn that sometimes you can't have it no matter how much you scream and you don't scream about it when you are an adult. You learn and make sensible decision and understand you can't afford cake and cake isn't good for you so you don't have a tantrum over not being able to eat it. Sometimes you may have an occasional slice of cake but you get that cake by not being a bloody twat about it.

And yes the vast majority of autistic people can manage cake buying in their life in a sensible way when it comes down to it, even if they eat cake more often than the average person. Because they can regulate and understand boundaries in normal everyday life when they are taught how to do so and understand why it is important.

This patronising idea of autistic people as overgrown bloody toddlers doesn't help anyone. Least of all autistic people themselves.

I agree with a lot of this.

As people who live in society, we all need to learn to manage ourselves within that - and that includes people who find it difficult. What we see here is totally unacceptable behaviour, we cannot have adults throwing full blown temper tantrums in public like this. I also agree that a cultural of affirmation has built this person's expectations.

Ofmiceandmenandtroubledrants · 23/07/2026 09:01

What's odd is all transwoman are lovely

CoalTit · 23/07/2026 08:59

None of the other posters here are laughing at the screaming, manipulative foot stamper and the situation he created, but I am.
The weary, resigned faces of all the workers around him; the pissed-off police; the dialogue! It's priceless! A perfect illustration of the cult of gender identity and the ordinary service workers expected to submit to it or undergo social death. May this video never leave the internet.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 23/07/2026 08:52

Taytoface · 23/07/2026 08:35

I don't like this. This person is clearly unwell. Yes, he has likely been conditioned to have off the scale levels of entitlement around his demands of the world to see his clearly male from as a female, but imagine if this was a video where gender identity didn't factor. It's just someone likely mentally unwell, maybe neurodiverse, being confronted by a cop who really could have handled it better, having a total breakdown. And you lot laughing at him.

Dismissing him as an attention seeker, attributing it all to a performance, not buying the excuses offered up, none of that is laughing at him. It's a comment on the antisocial element of his tantrum, when does bad behaviour stop and mental health issues start. If we start claiming every outburst from every person is down to mental health, we might as well say being mental is the norm.

Sandytoesies · 23/07/2026 08:51

The op didn’t ‘obtain’ the footage in some nefarious way! It’s all over the internet and in some online newspapers. I don’t think anyone is laughing- but it is an issue that needs discussing- how are situations like this best managed and avoided? Did the police manage it correctly? What policies do public spaces need? We have no evidence as to wether the person is mentally ill, my guess is not, but either way this kind of behaviour can’t just be ignored - it’s frightening.

RoyalCorgi · 23/07/2026 08:49

I wonder what the police response would have been if this had happened in the UK. I'm not sure the police response in the video to what is clearly a mentally unwell person is the most appropriate one.

I think the video does illustrate something we already know, which is that trans identification, a history of mental illness and autism are often co-morbid.

anyolddinosaur · 23/07/2026 08:47

It's really sad that people like this are told the solution to their problems is transition when it doesnt help and may actually make them worse. The police had possibly come across him before but maybe just got his name from the university staff. They really tried hard to get him secured so he couldnt harm anyone and then take him off to get help. They couldnt do that without his co-operation.

It's here because it illustrates that it isnt safe for these men to be around women. They need proper psychiatric help, not affirmation.

Comments are not mocking him, just noting that this is a child like temper tantrum.

Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but in my opinion those are two very different things. Maybe the trans debate has lost some of its nuance on both sides? I wouldn't personally want to antagonise or upset a work colleague over what they want to be called but I also wouldn't want to be in a changing room with them.

This video was clearly showing a difficult situation, with to be honest a very difficult person who was acting unreasonably. That said, they're clearly not mentally well; like someone else said, who screams about pronouns when threatened with a taser? That is not someone who is being rational and I don't know if filming and laughing at mentally ill people (trans or not) is a good idea. We can be critical of trans ideology without resorting to that.

Excellent post. That person was clearly very unwell, and the situation wasn't really about trans, it was about mental illness. I'm very uncomfortable about the tone of many posts.

Yes, it was a horrible situation for those witnessing it, but this was a person in a mental health crisis.

@Taytoface ’us lot’? I’m not laughing at this young man. Most posters are not laughing at him. It’d help to read the thread before generalising.

TheFlyingPenguin · 23/07/2026 08:35

The mockery was a man with blue hair insisting on being called she.

This is what happens when reality comes up against delusional beliefs...Reality will win.

Too much internet exposure and very much a first world problem.
