Bizarre...I commented on a post which called to go "back to asylums" for people with mental ill-health

No catastrophising here; my world view isn't centred in hate

'we need to bring back asylums for anyone who is too dangerous to be allowed to mix with normal people.'

Did you miss the full quote?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 17:37

As pp said, some people who are too dangerous to be around others are committed to locked mental health institutions. It’s still a thing now. What is your point?

Anyahyacinth · 23/07/2026 17:30

DrBlackbird · 23/07/2026 17:23

For goodness sake. Stop with the catastrophising. No one on this thread is actually suggesting anyone be locked up. And such hyperbole does no good whatsoever in terms of trying to support for individuals with gender dysphoria.

That was, I think, the first BBC article I ever complained about.
It must have been me who got them to make it absolutely crystal clear that he's a man (heavy sarcasm).
And here we are in 2026 with still dozens of other violent or paedophilic men the BBC has failed to correctly sex, or even tell us they identify as 'transgender'.

Well done!

..and this is exactly where it ends.

So we will go back to pregnant children locked away, anyone with any difference locked away...all the scandals of the past repeated...the massive excess deaths in these institutions and more.

An appalling and hate filled thing to comment

Kid can be unhappy about pronouns, but should have just walked away. No reason to stick around if you’re being insulted. Definitely WAY overrated by having a full blown tantrum/psychotic episode. Hope police provided a full psych evaluation and arranged for this clearly disturbed person to get the help they need. And better hair so they don’t look like Cousin It from the Addams Family.

This was not a kid. He's 27 and more than old enough to know better.

This video made me feel so, so deeply sad.

I don't know what the solutions are for someone who has this much trouble navigating life.

But I could only be comfortable with myself if I were to say "I hope you find what you need to live in peace."

It made me deeply sad too. Sad that this man has been aggressively lurching towards, and chasing different groups of students/ juveniles (I think that was said) as per the witness from Subway. He was known to be aggressive, and possibly a danger. He only seemed to be brought to book when he tried it on with a police officer who had pepper spray, taser, and the force of law.

So, youngsters have had to put up with his thuggish, and threatening, behaviour. Who knows how many girls/women may have removed themselves from female spaces if he plonked himself there? You wouldn’t stay in a place with such a potentially dangerous man. And, we saw he was even kicking off with the police, so one can only wonder what would he potentially do to weaker targets of his ire. Would those girls even be given the time of day if they complained? Or would they be told to shut up, and they must be hateful to not want an aggressive and potentially dangerous man in confined spaces?

Nice for the copper that he could cuff him (with support), and report all the attempted lurching, shouting, kicking, and grabbing/ punching. All on camera. The thug was lying in the car conversation about what happened. Very good it is all on camera. And they had excellent and honest witnesses.

I wonder what abuse other students etc have had to put up with. With maybe no way of voicing complaints without being abused again as hateful for not wanting someone like this aggressively threatening them. What a charter for abusive men?

I do not think the solution is to have every student and staff member of an institution walking on eggshells not to call this man who is clearly a man, 'he'.

This is how the 'there's only a few of them' argument falls, because every single other person in their orbit is gaslit and under pressure of compliance 24/7.

They already are old style asylums back ....you haven't followed the scandal of countless deaths of people with LD or young people in locked institutions this week or recent years? Countless inquests and reports?

People who fear DEI I can't...we are racing back to a Victorian age

Perhaps if you link to a current event I'd know better what your talking about, locked institutions can cover a lot of things that are not the asylums that you spoke of.

Cherry picking quotes to make a point means you've already lost the point. We've come along way since the 70's/80's there's no reason to assume that asylums today would be as bad as they were in the past.

As a PP said 'care in the community' is a disaster, it needs to be replaced by something more structured and reliable for the people who need it the most.

Lets take all the money that the NHS wastes on DEI and non jobs and fund a proper Mental Health Care system with it.

Would you prefer it if we call them 'secure hospitals'? Can assure you plenty of people in secure hospitals see little differnce, regardless of what they're called. And many are relieved to be looked after.

AgedPudding · 23/07/2026 16:38

Similarly, some people are trans.. so folk better learn to live with THAT too.. or at least their own discomfort about it. Preferably quietly

Speaking for myself, I don't feel any discomfort at people being trans. I'm really not bothered at all about it. Let they do them, so to speak. I have worked in a quite large office with a transwoman, my friend's daughter is a transman.
I have also come into contact with a few transwomen as customers in retail.
The first two who I obviously know personally are, surprising to some, perfectly aware and accepting that they are not their assumed sex but would very much like to be. The trans woman knows he is a man and uses the mens toilet - there is no issue as it's an office where people know who he is. It doesn't worry anyone. My friend's daughter uses the womens toilet because that's her preference and that doesn't surprise me. Nobody has ever challenged her for being a man in a womens toilet because despite her being a man in her head, she is, in fact, to all onlookers, clearly a woman.

So long as people who identify as trans stay within the law and use the public facilities designated to their biological sex I can't see that anyone would have a problem living with that. I certainly don't.

SockPlant · 23/07/2026 16:37

But it didn't say "and throe unmarried mothers & co. In them"

"Care" in the community did a LOT of harm. We need places that can care for people who are so mentally unwell that they can't care for themselves and/or may harm others.

Anyahyacinth · 23/07/2026 16:32

oldtiredcyclist · 23/07/2026 10:20

There was no hate in that comment, which was based on current attitudes to possibly dangerous people, with mental problems, being allowed to walk around the streets, possibly posing a very unpredictable danger to the rest of society.
How many times have we heard after a murder (the awful Southport multiple murders) that the murderer had mental problems?
We are not talking about young, pregnant women being locked away, we have moved on from that thank God, we are talking about people with severe mental problems being kept in secure places, where they can be looked after and treated by experienced medical staff, where they are safe and do not pose a problem to society as a whole.

The quote says "bring back asylums" people with thyroid disorders, unmarried mothers, people with learning disabilities, any other difference were held here for decades as late as the 70s, 80s and 90s ...the quote was very clear

SodThisHeadache · 23/07/2026 16:27

@DetectiveDouche
"Protected legal status' simply means that a man who identifies trans can't be discriminated against compared to a man who does not identify as trans.
That's all it means. I don't blame you for your misunderstanding though - it's probably what you've been led to believe.

WhatterySquash · 23/07/2026 16:16

Yes, but as I said before - mental health workers agreeing with a patient that he is a napoleon so they can calm him down is not exactly affirming. It just taking the edge of the situation so it can be easier to deal with.

I do get this but the stakes are less high. Napoleon isn't around and there isn't any harm or loss of safety to him caused by agreeing someone else is him. Plus this happens in a context where society agree the person is mentally unwell and deluded.

If we saw believing or claiming that you are the opposite sex in the same way, it would be more reasonable.

WhatterySquash · 23/07/2026 16:12

Unfortunately this is only likely to result in more legal cases and what will happen if we have too many of these is insurers are going to start getting pissy with their employer legal coverage for any organisation which fails to knowingly and willingly breach the law.

Yes and the same with sporting bodies, education and health authorities, prison services and providers of gender-"affirming" "care" itself. They will be forced back into a rational, sex-acknowledging, less harmful position, not because it's right, or because they finally get it, but because they'll be advised that they'll get sued to shit and it will cost them too much money.

trans is a PROTECTED LEGAL STATUS in the UK

The confusion over this is down to people wrongly thinking (and gender activists wrongly claiming) that the protections and rights afforded on the basis of "gender reassignment" are about trans people having a right to be treated as/given the right of the opposite sex.

They are not about that. No one has a right to access spaces, services etc. of a category they don't belong to. If you are male, you don't have a right to stuff that's for females just because you identify as or claim to be female. If you're male, you cannot be female. Just as if you are not disabled you don't have a right to a disabled parking space or to be in the paralympics, and if you are white you don't have a right to a scholarship or award that is for black people, and if you're 25 you cannot get your pension by announcing you're 70.

The rights and protections you do get under "gender reassignment" are the same as what everyone else gets, e.g. you shouldn't be discriminated against when it comes to getting a council house or a promotion etc. on the basis of being trans.

However, discrimination is legal in some circumstances on the basis of things like sex, disability, age, belief etc, when they are relevant. So for example if you are male you can be excluded from a service, group or space that is female-only. There are groups, awards and services that are for trans people and you can understand that they exclude people who aren't in that category, right? Then you can understand that other protected characteristics, like being female, can have the same.

If protected status for gender reassignment gave you the right to claim the rights of the opposite sex, which a human cannot be, that would in itself be discrimination because it would be discriminating against people who want to claim an age, disability, ethnicity etc that they do not have. We don't allow that so why should it be allowed with sex?

The protection means:

If a man claims he has a transgender status, he should not be treated less favourably than any other man.

I think she means that all the people enabling him in identifying as a “woman” have exacerbated his PD.

Yes, but as I said before - mental health workers agreeing with a patient that he is a napoleon so they can calm him down is not exactly affirming. It just taking the edge of the situation so it can be easier to deal with.

Totally agree though that this kind of tantrum is a result of suddenly having to deal with the reality and being outside of the "ally" bubble where everyone panders to his whims.

Applesonthelawn · 23/07/2026 09:19

She wasn't out of control (which doesn't mean she isn't autistic). I've seen autistic meltdown and you can't switch it on and off like that. She was trying to manipulate a situation by using her trans characteristics because they have protected status. But she has been allowed to believe that because she is protected for being trans, she is also protected for behaving unreaonably. It's quite possible that she's both a prick and a trans woman.

No need for she. You and I both know he's a man
