In case anyone has missed this prize example of a mentally ill adult male exhibiting trans entitlement.

I'm not sure where I fit. I am a working class woman with a working class husband and two working class adult children and a disabled adult adult son with complex needs. I have a hard won social science degree. My ex (who was a bit of an arse tbf) used to call me a bleeding heart liberal quite often. I guess that's why I don't fit in here. I confess I accidentally drifted onto the feminist board via active conversations without noticing what it was.. I've an ex colleague who is trans.. I saw what they went through and continue to go through.. I guess I see things from a very different perspective. I am massively pro women's rights which I doubt would be believed (weird) , i definitely don't hate women and I'm definitely a tired, slightly fat middle-aged woman with too much on her mind and who doesn't usually cause much offence. People general like me. I'm pretty normal apart from my childish toilet humour which is normal in my family. I'm not known for spouting bullshit but I do like unicorns so maybe... Hey ho..

Edited

if i am to believe what you say about yourself, then i am willing to believe you in this response.

You have been sucked in to a person (i assume a male) nonsense about his identity they are highly manipulative people.

Your ex may well be an arse but a bleeding heart liberal is probably correct.

Been there done that got the t shirt.

I went too the Durham gala the other weekend, the miners strike was a phenomena for working class women, they found their voices, learnt to speak, learnt to organise.

And yet it was so called leftist approaching me arguing that GC is anti feminist anti abortion right wing bla bla bla.

freed themselves and the miners in that strike suddenly recognised the value of women. Realised page three was not on, had GAY PRIDE fronted the march.

it was a rise of working class awareness, of what binds us.

this genderism is a middle class privileged belief, coming from above.
you made some saucy comment about reading.

I went and read many books to figure out where i stood, for myself and for women.

Helen Joyce is a good start.

Do not stick your fingers in your ears. I got a good kicking on here years ago. You are here for a reason if i believe you. Do what i did. Go learn.

i dunno.. maybe the ones that have done it so successfully that you don't know the difference?

So you are only “true trans” if you pass? Not just if you say are?

Who gets to decide?

You argued for the opposite upthread, stating that being trans was on the basis of an inner gender feeling. But now you’re saying that isn’t enough, that a man can’t just feel like a woman to be one, he has to perform femininity as well.

Right now I have a dress on and am wearing a bit or make up (I’m at work). I look like a woman because I am one, but according to you I also need to present as one. Does that mean, according to you, when I go home later and put on trackies and a male jumper that I’ve actually changed sex?

RogueFemale · 23/07/2026 23:53

You're USA then. That might explain a lot. Your ignorance of the law, for a start.

Protip: stop using the ROFL emoji in reply to everyone.

I'm from the south of the UK. Where I live. I sometimes like to overuse emojies. You're not the 1st to be irritated by this.. I make no apologies 🤣 (Do people still say ROFL? Is it American??)

There are LOADs of generalisations on here..

DetectiveDouche · 23/07/2026 23:54

DrBlackbird · 23/07/2026 23:48

I do standby my standpoint of recognising that being trans is an actual thing and that there is a law there to protect such people from being subjected to prejudicial behaviour.

Goodness. No one has denied that some people want to present as the opposite sex (being trans). There might even be posters on this thread that wish to present as the opposite sex whilst acknowledging that they haven’t actually changed sex. Or posters with family members who are ‘trans’. People ‘being trans’ is not a surprise to us.

People on this thread understand the EA. Some are lawyers. Gender reassignment as a protected characteristic has been acknowledged. I guarantee everyone encounters ‘scary views’ as we all live in the real world and some actively encourage academic argumentation for a living. Most of us tend to be life long lefties but are politically homeless when the leader of the Labour Party try to say some women have penises. No they don’t.

Pretty much everyone who contributes to these threads object to men entering female spaces on the basis of feeling womanly. And no one wants to see young people become permanently infertile or worse due to taking cross sex hormones or having experimental surgery. No one wants to be told that being female is wearing makeup and dresses. It’s really too bad you don’t read what’s being argued here. You might find yourself agreeing with these tenets. Ah well.

I agree with much of what you've said and I am politically homeless lifelong leftie.

I also believe that some trans people have the right to be treated as the gender they identify with even if not everyone understands why this is not "pretend".

Sigh. It's a Mumsnet nickname. If we wanted it to say our actual names wouldn't we just use them? Some of my previous usernames have been song titles or whatever. This isn't unusual elsewhere on MN.. you should venture out of here sometimes you know. You might encounter some scary views but ultimately I think it might help you. 🤣

DetectiveDouche · 23/07/2026 23:40

nolongersurprised · 23/07/2026 23:31

No, you’re misrepresenting what being gender critical is. It’s not about performing gender stereotypes that match sex. It’s the opposite.

Sex is immutable. People can present how they like, wear whatever but men can’t become women. When people talk about their “gender” they’re describing something more akin to their personally.

I appreciate that’s not comfortable for you - special gender feelz will never make me think a man has become a woman, even if they do their hair and make up and wear blue wigs and stripy socks.

That sounds like something out of the Emerald City tbf 🤣

It's not difficult. It's just not comfortable for you for some reason. So l, there is female and there is male.. and in the world you wish to habit, females are absolutely female and feel female and males are absolutely male and feel male. Them there are those that absolutely genuinely feel trapped in a body that they in no way identify with. Despite how you object to this, it is the cases. You don't like this concept I realise and I sympathise with you having to imagine this grey area. But there is. A very simplified version, admittedly.

No one has said they have no protection in law, you’re completely wrong that we can’t call them men though. Trans women are all men, and it’s extremely important to recognise that, to uphold the rights to safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls, even the internally misogynistic ones who don’t feel they need it.

Thanks for that summary. Detective did a little switcheroo there with the

I do standby my standpoint of recognising that being trans is an actual thing and that there is a law there to protect such people from being subjected to prejudicial behaviour.
[my bold]

Which is not at all what we were arguing about, because earlier this evening, Detective actually said:

You have defined all trans women as men. As many on Mum'snet seem to do. And this is what you cannot do legally anymore. It's not ok. You just think it is.
[my bold]

Yes, interesting switcheroo there just at the end. Quite clever, but we see it anyway. We always see it! 😄

Where do you look things up then? Is Google considered terribly unacceptable these days??

yes I'm sure. First of October 2010. Equality act.

'Trans' is not listed as a protected characteristic in the EA, it's Gender Reassignment. It has specific legal implications.

Google is very unreliable. You could try reading some legal cases such as the Supreme Court ruling, Forstarter case, Higgs, maybe a few books…..

i could give you a good list as most of us could.

A .. book, you say? Gosh I don't think my tiny little woman hating brain could manage that. Even if it was by J. K. Rowling.!!

DetectiveDouche · 23/07/2026 23:10

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 23/07/2026 23:06

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 23:09

Thankfully, those women are in the minority and the law is not on their side because it was clarified in April last year that all trans “women” are in fact men legally when it comes to the protected characteristic of sex in the Equality Act. It’s worth remembering that there are in fact 9 PCs not just the one, although you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise.
