I love Wagner and the first time i saw the Ring Cycle live I was desperately worried it would be me and a bunch of fascists. Not so. Before even entering the theatre i bumped into an old work colleague (gay, Marxist), we were sitting next to someone from my yoga class, I saw loads of people I knew and if anyone had asked audience members to stand if they had ever worked for a university I think two thirds would have been on their feet.
