I though some merkin flappers might enjoy this cartoon from FB.

So the cartoonist knows people can't change sex. I know that. My kids know that. Pretty much everyone in the world knows that.

It's not groundbreaking or stunning and brave to say it. Conservatively, more than 95% of people agree with this view. Just as they agree the sun is the centre of our solar system, the earth is roundish and the moon is not made of cheese.

I am not shocked at the defensiveness and defenders of a known misogynist, anti-semetic, neo-nazi. But I wish I was.Sad

I believe the saying is "a broken clock is right twice a day". Years back, I saw a funny comic by the artist at hand, so I went clicking through his/her archive looking for more amusement, and, well... I found his/her other strips extremely distasteful.

Unfortunately or fortunately as the case may be, humans are complex creatures, and sometimes people who mostly only spout rubbish can have flashes of insight, and people who are mostly always insightful can have blind spots you could hide a double-decker bus in. Stonetoss is an example of the former in my own opinion, and Reem Alsalem, as mentioned upthread, is a good example of the latter. I cannot fathom her attitude to the victims of October 7th. It seems so out of character with the rest of her work.

We're supposed to believe everything we're told by random people on the internet. We're not supposed to worry our pretty little heads about truth or facts or, heaven forbid, actually doing our own research and thinking for ourselves.

Or something.

I did some of my own research, a bit of a read-around on a number of sites about this cartoonist.
That was enough for me to think that Princessblackberry wasn't making stuff up out of thin air, and for me to come down on the side of 'thanks but no thanks'.

After a bit of my own research and a bit of my own thought, I've decided of my own free will to leave Stone Toss where I found him.

Nothing more dramatic than - well, he looks like a bit of a wrong 'un, I'm not 100% certain, but enough % to give him a wide berth in future.

Other posters clearly have a different take on it.

I'm grateful to Princessblackberry, and another poster, Ruth?, for drawing my attention to the cartoonist behind that funny and perceptive cartoon.

I did find the original cartoon quite funny - the others not particularly. I am not sure I would call the examples posted Neo Nazi but I can imagine someone who drew those might draw worse and I don't particularly want to investigate.

What I do find a bit funny is the thought that somewhere in the cyber verse (maybe Reddit) there is likely a thread where a queer for Palestine type has posted an anti Israel cartoon and been warned that the cartoonist is unacceptable because of being a terfy fascist transphobe.

But that might just be my sense of humour.

I think it’s highly likely.

I also find it frustrating that the complaints about purity spiralling only go one way.

It's very common on here to have threads along the line of "X person / celebrity / actor" is a TRA!" with lots of following posts about how it's disappointing and how they were going to buy that book / watch that film but not now, or how it's ruined something they've already watched / read.

But when it's the other way and you point out someone who has done something on the pro-GC side actually is probably a horrible person, well, you get things like this thread. "Prove it, I don't believe you, sod off with the purity spiralling / yeah but it's still funny."

It's really interesting to watch personal biases at play.

Edited

Reem Alsalem has been a positive force for the GC movement.

Just don't bring up her antisemitism.

Heggettypeg · 22/07/2026 19:26

We seem to have got into a place where we will no longer hear what somebody is saying and decide whether they are right or wrong about it. Instead, we first ask whether this is an approved person to listen to, regardless of what is being said on this occasion.

Two examples of an opposite approach; Marie on here sometimes quotes Edmund Burke when he hits a nail on the head, despite disapproving of his ideas. Daniel Barenboim and his West-Ostlicher Divan Orchestra that brings together young Jewish and Arab musicians, will play Wagner. Are they "amplifying" "problematic" people or are they recognising the complexity of human nature?

This ^^

It's deeply frustrating. Because when people do stray towards the dark side it gives TRA's leverage suggesting we're all extreme-right fucknuts.

It's almost like some people exploit GC talking points as a wedge issue to push people further rightwards like I said in the Linehan thread and we should maybe be more careful about which voices we amplify after agreeing with just one thing they say, but I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong in 3... 2... 1...

No one is saying it was shares in malice and no one asks anyone to do a deep dive. Most of us if someone said "heads up that person posts a lot of Jew hate" would just say "oh thanks I didn't realise!" Not martyr themselves that they personally have been called a Nazi and everyone's being so harsh and purity spiralling by telling me 😭

Literally this, I was just surprised someone on MN was sharing this. I’d be glad to be warned if I was sharing something like this?

murasaki · 22/07/2026 19:10

Yes, that last one is awful and clearly antisemitic.

The first one is funny. That one very much is not.

MJEBinAthens · 22/07/2026 19:06

is the fifth part of the strip where he calls the genie a TERF and kicks off? 😂😂😂

Yeah that does look to me antisemitic. Thanks for providing some proof.

I still think the original cartoon was funny. I didn't think the example you posted was funny.

Bit of holocaust denial here, he's pretty definitely a neonazi

FinchiePink · 22/07/2026 18:36

Stonetoss went viral a couple of years ago after his comics gained more traction.

Unfortunately he is probably a neo-nazi, or at least heavily sympathetic to that cause, and his comics are frequently racist and often misogynistic and anti-semitic too. He has made direct Nazi references in a lot of his comics, referring to Hitler as "an honest politician" (comic no. 180) and sympathising that concentration camps weren't such a bad idea (comic no. 354). He's made comics making light of rape and strangulation and implies that it's what women really want. He frequently uses anti-Semitic tropes in his comics about Jews being tight with money or controlling the world.

Personally I wouldn't amplify the voice of anyone like this, and I don't think it should be controversial to say so.

He's absolutely no friend to women at all, that's for sure.

You do know Wikipedia can be edited by anyone and isn't reliable? Would surprise me if a TRA had got to that one given the very funny and accurate cartoon.

You know all those little numbers are references right? You can follow the links on them.

Agreed with what others have said on here; I'm not in favour of the demonisation of calling people nazis, in part because it means the term loses power when it's actually applicable; StoneToss's comics frequently contain neonazi dogwhistles, overt racism and holocaust denial. He's known for it.

A post such as this adds nothing on a forum. What specifically isn't making sense for you? It seems others are finding my posts make sense.

I'm trying to help you by pointing out that some of your posts aren't intelligible.

But it doesn't matter, so never mind.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong point is it? Or you can't follow the simple point I was responding was you saying you wouldn't have looked but I made you by "publicising" him. Perhaps you didn't read the post on relation to your own before typing that.

Your post was ambiguous, which is why I didn't interpret it in the way you intended.

you saying you wouldn't have looked but I made you by "publicising" him.

I didn't say you "made" me do anything. Random people on the internet can't make me do things. Perhaps you should be more careful about reading what other people say before accusing them of poor reading comprehension.

Your last sentence makes no sense. Calm down a bit and read and type more slowly. You might make more sense then.

I have good friends with impeccable lefty credentials who were avid Wagner fan girls.

I love Wagner and the first time i saw the Ring Cycle live I was desperately worried it would be me and a bunch of fascists. Not so. Before even entering the theatre i bumped into an old work colleague (gay, Marxist), we were sitting next to someone from my yoga class, I saw loads of people I knew and if anyone had asked audience members to stand if they had ever worked for a university I think two thirds would have been on their feet. One friend did say afterwards that he was stuck in a pocket of right-wingers but, in general, Wagner is the equivalent of cat-nip for lefty academics.

😂
