Robin Ince resigns from The Infinite Monkey Cage

The odious Robin Ince has resigned from The Infinite Monkey Cage because of his trans views. He says he would have been pushed if he didn’t jump. Neither he nor the show will be much missed, both being self absorbed and pompous. But does this mean the tide is finally turning at the BBC?

He hasn't spoken to Cox's wife Gia for years because he's too up his own fundament to associate with Terfs.

That must make for a prickly workplace.

I thought 'identifying as' was the thing to say too. When did that change? Not that I'm an expert on this deluded nonsense.

No no, it's dangerous terfy hate speech. As is "biological" (they're biological too), and, increasingly, AFAB, at least when it's used to talk about women as a distinct group, for instance for a roommates wanted ad.

Sad times, eh?
I often think of Sinead when dealing with TRAs

Everyone can see
What's going on
They laugh 'cause they know they're untouchable
Not because what I said was wrong
....
Through their own words
They will be exposed
They've got a severe case of
The emperor's new clothes

What's that smell? Oh yep, burning martyr

I dunno. He seems quite far up his own sphincter. It could be quite a different smell.

DierdreDaphne · 21/07/2026 12:17

"I never thought I would have to leave..."

Really mate? Like me, you're a contractor. None of us contractors expect to be secure beyond the end of the contract that's running at the time! Did you think you were special? [Don't answer that, I think we know what Robin believes about Robin]

And can you imagine wanting to hire anyone who bleats so sourly about a previous client? I would be fully put off. I hope his family is financially secure seeing as he's queered (ha!) his own pitch so self-indulgently.

WhatterySquash · 21/07/2026 11:31

Urgh can't stand this kind of pontificating drama llama shite. He should never have been on a science show at all if he has such a poor understanding of science as to think TWA actually W and if he wants to promulgate ant-science, sexist and homophobic genderist opinions. It's possible to support the reasonable and balanced rights of trans-identifying people within a framework that actually makes sense and involves reality.

The thing I never understood about TIMC is that Brian Cox is actually a scientifically minded person and also is actually funny. How could he stand working with Ince? And yes about the sexist boy's club vibe - this is the kind of show I should love on paper but although I have often listened to it or heard bits, the smugness has always annoyed me. When they do have female guests there's often a lot of giggly self-deprecation and it feels like that's what they look for.

Whereas The Life Scientific, presented by a man, treats women as equally interesting, varied, able to express themselves in their own ways, highlights the wide range of scientific careers of both sexes, never has that patrician/smug vibe. So it can be done.

I think of Sinead's words, "the job of an artist is to be themselves at any cost".

He sounds insufferable. I suspect sighs of relief from everyone who knows they won't have to work with him again.

Edited to add: Sinead could say this, as an artist.

2021x · 21/07/2026 10:25

Wow he likes the sound of his own voice doesn't he?

Who cares if he supports Trans people... it doesn't mean he also has to be misogynistic and medically unethical. Right?

That’s a dangerous thing to do. Apparently Mia Farrow has fallen foul of the Alphabet by posting a twix or whatever they are called these days, giving her support to trans people but unfortunately using the forbidden words “identifying as”. Thus causing teeth grinding, wailing and chesticle beating because they don’t “identify as ” , they “are”. Which apparently means poor Mia is a card carrying trans denying TERF and should be shunned.

I did not know that but it all seems like inevitable fallout and the perfect illustration of extremely online loopiness.

roseyposey · 21/07/2026 09:33

I’d never heard of him must admit but having googled him I get Billy Bragg vibes. He’s never grown out of his early 90s band T-shirt look.

.

The attitude suggests that that last batch of recordings might have been 'difficult'.

MoistVonL · 21/07/2026 09:27

Will he ever stop blathering on about what a heartbroken martyr he is? He quit ten months ago.

Enough already. No one cares, Robin. You aren't that interesting.

I hope Tennant has had the chat. He has a lot of mentally unstable followers who worship him. It's atrocious that he said he wished Kemi Badenoch didn't exist.

I don't think he is particularly associated with the BBC. A lot of his recent work has been for ITV.

He has done a bit of presenting, but most of his work has been as an actor, and I don't think that carries the same responsibility of representing a broadcaster.

NotBadConsidering · 21/07/2026 09:24

He posted this two days ago with a self-pitying post about how he was betrayed.

Interesting to learn the BBC are meeting with people and telling them the views they express are problematic. I wonder who else has had the chat - David Tennant for example.

BackToLurk · 21/07/2026 09:00

“My heroes Tom O’Connor, Billy Baldwin and Good Lawd” more like.

leshirondelles · 21/07/2026 08:59

I think the way they laid into Mia Farrow shows that any support is never enough for them.

Yeah, I saw that.
She’s 81.
She was on their side.
They were so nasty.
What absolute dicks these people are.

nicepotoftea · 21/07/2026 08:41

It looks as though he resigned last September but they have just finished recording the latest series.

I wonder if they will continue with the format. I don't think it will be a great loss if they try something new.

Not that Ince was ever there to show off his ‘intellectual prowess’ - he was more the (supposedly) comedic ‘man in the street’ asking dumb questions wasn’t he? I wouldn’t have wanted a woman in that role!

Some of the other science programs, In Our Time etc aren’t too bad with the balance of the sexes nowadays.

Anyway, Ince going is old non-news.

viques · 21/07/2026 08:33

Aw bless. Another of those all “jolly nice chaps together showing off our intellectual prowess” programmes the bbc does so well. The other month I had to contact Poetry Please because it appeared that unfortunately not a single token woman writer or poet was available to help to celebrate their 50 th PP anniversary. It was slightly unfortunate that it was broadcast from the Hay Festival where presumably many of the UKs finest female writers and poets were congregated.

Though maybe none of them like Roger McGough either so declined the invitation, always a possibility.

They never got back to me btw.
