The only surrogacy that could be legally and ethically defensible, possibly, is close relative surrogacy with no financial reward. I know hardliners would say that shouldn't be allowed either and I am sympathetic to that. But non related surrogacy is abusive to children and exploitative of women and should never ever be legal.

The International slave trade was banned in the 1820s. It’s been illegal in Britain since Elizabeth I.

I found it quite telling that this couple didn't want to join a Facebook group where altruistic surrogates in the UK could select the couple they wanted to surrogate for. They wanted a woman who couldn't say no.

And the comment about how it's time we all thought about gay men and how difficult and expensive it is for them to have children. Please. I think my eyes would fall out of my head if I rolled them any harder.

And women’s bodies are not just incubators. Pregnancy carries various health risks, and carrying a pregnancy to term without lactating afterwards increases various risks to maternal health, as well as artificial feeding having long term health and development implications for babies.
