Thought it might be useful to find points of commonality.

Ever the optimist! 😊

  1. Gender stereotypes can be restrictive and limiting.

Because otherwise it's a bit like saying that many women believe in horoscopes.

The relevance of the opinion depends on it making some kind of sense.

Your point would have more practical application if you were arguing that e.g. 50% of women are happy to used mixed sex facilities, although you still wouldn't be able to ignore the 50% who aren't.

The fact that women who believe TWAW exist in large numbers is totally irrelevant to my personal views. It still remains that many of the people you will be arguing about what "women" think on this matter will be women who disagree with you.

If you dont use the term many researchers use to talk about people who arent trans (cis), then it will equally skewer results. This is what I meant about ignoring research that doesnt used your preferred language.

It's an ideological term that presupposes identification with a gender so using it will skewer results.

It's a bit like asking somebody whether they will go to heaven or hell without giving a third option for people who believe in neither.

'A March 2026 poll found support for trans people using facilities matching their gender identity had dropped further, to just 20-21% for toilets and 18-19% for changing rooms/showers '

That's pretty clear, isn't it?

Even if that claim was true, which it isn’t, that still leaves half who aren’t “fine”. What about them?

The original point was that it isn't just "trans women" who believe TWAW, a lot of women do, too. This is what you're attempting to prove to me, that only a tiny minority of women support trans women.

Why do I need to explain how a man becomes a woman to state that many women believe TWAW? What does my views on whether and how a man can become a woman have to do with the fact many women believe TWAW?

Can you explain the connection?

Scotland poll finds huge generation split on trans bathroom rules

4 January 2026

"In a survey of 1000 Scots, a majority of 55% said trans people should only be allowed to use facilities which align with their biological sex. One-fifth (20%) said people should be able to use the facilities that align with their chosen gender, while 25% said they did not know.

With the don't knows removed, 73% opposed trans people using facilities of their choice, while 27% backed it. However, voters appear split on the issue along generational lines.
Subsamples from the poll show that in all the age groups above 55, support for trans people being allowed to use the facilities that align with their gender is around 7-8%.

For those aged 65-74 and 75 and above, around three-quarters (74% and 73% respectively) believe trans people should have to use facilities that align with their birth sex. This drops to 64% for those aged 55-64, and consistently drops further across every age group.

For the youngest age group polled, people aged 18-29, a plurality support trans people being able to use facilities of their choice (42% against 32% who say they should have to use facilities which align with their birth sex).
The poll also found women are more likely than men to think trans people should use facilities that match the gender they identify as, at 23% compared to 16%."

Meanwhile, those who voted for Reform UK or the Conservatives at the last General Election are more likely to believe trans people should use facilities in line with their biological sex – at 83% and 74% respectively – compared with the SNP (45%) and the Greens (18%). "

So in short, every claim @Lexibletheflexible has made is completely ridiculous.

No it isnt. What is ridiculous is to pretend that many of the people who would call you a bigot are women.

The flexibe friend could very easily put all the mystery to bed by explaining how a man becomes a woman.

Apparently 50% of all women think this. Yet none can explain it. Including the flexible friend.

Baffling. Why would they keep this apparently common understanding a secret?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/07/2026 16:30

I just asked AI a very similar question:

“Polling on this has shifted, and different surveys show somewhat different pictures depending on timing and question wording.

Before the UK Supreme Court ruling (April 2025): Some 2024 YouGov polling found women, on balance, supported trans women’s access to toilets (45%-34%) and changing rooms (40%-37%), with women’s support consistently higher than men’s by about thirteen points on average.

(my note - not when they’re asked about men who haven’t had gender reassignment surgery - the proportion unhappy with them using women’s spaces is much higher, happy to get these figures if needed because they’ve been the plurality or majority position since 2018)

After the ruling: The Supreme Court’s April 2025 decision that “woman” under the Equality Act means biological sex marked a turning point. Over half of voters (59%) agreed with that ruling compared with just 17% who disagreed, a pattern consistent across age groups . Following this, resistance to trans women’s access rose to 55% opposed on toilets and 58% opposed on changing rooms among Britons overall , and 55% said allowing trans women into women’s spaces poses a genuine risk of harm to women .

More recent 2026 polling: A March 2026 poll found support for trans people using facilities matching their gender identity had dropped further, to just 20-21% for toilets and 18-19% for changing rooms/showers — notably lower than pre-ruling figures. That same survey found this preference for single-sex spaces held across ages and political affiliations, including among Labour and Green voters and 18-24 year-olds, with women valuing single-sex provision even more than men do”

WrongKindOfFeminist · 22/07/2026 16:29

Recent polling.

https://sex-matters.org/posts/single-sex-services/new-poll-shows-most-people-prefer-single-sex-toilets-and-changing-rooms/

'The poll shows that most people prefer single-sex facilities over “gender neutral” (mixed-sex) provision. This is a consistent preference that hardly varies across all the situations we asked about, from workplace toilets (78%) to toilets in parks and pubs (81%) to showers and changing rooms at work (86%). '

'Support for trans-identifying people to use the facilities of their choice is low, at 20–21% for toilets and 18–19% for showers and changing rooms. While direct comparison with previous surveys isn’t possible because the question was asked differently, this is significantly lower than in the YouGov poll conducted for Sex Matters in December 2024, before the Supreme Court judgment, where support for men who identified as women to use women’s facilities was 33% for toilets and 27% for changing rooms. '

New poll shows most people prefer single-sex toilets and changing rooms

A new UK-wide poll shows that the vast majority of adults prefer single-sex provision of toilets and changing rooms in workplaces, gyms and leisure

PrettyDamnCosmic · 22/07/2026 14:26

Around half of women still are fine with trans women in women's toilets.

This is a bare faced lie. The YouGov polls show just 25% of women want trans identifying men in female changing rooms with 55% of women opposed.

Yes, of course it is. Anyone who knows anything about this issue knows this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/07/2026 16:09

Lexibletheflexible · 22/07/2026 14:19

No, there are no flaws. I think there is a lot of denial. It may be hard to accept that many women do not agree with you but they don't

Check the latest polling. There has been a downward trend for the last 8 years in the numbers of people who are comfortable with many of the key “trans rights” demands. The majority of women of all demographic groups don’t want intact males in women’s spaces. That’s very clear.

Helleofabore · 22/07/2026 16:08

Lexibletheflexible · 22/07/2026 14:18

It hasn't changed that much. Around half of women still are fine with trans women in women's toilets. Arguing otherwise is a waste of time.

This is not correct in any way in the UK in 2026. It hasn’t been correct for some years. Do you need us to link up more UK polls?

Or shall we just ask Chat GPT a very specific question about the opinions of female respondents in the UK in 2025 or 2026 about whether or not they accept male people with transgender identities in female single sex provisions and list the different provisions?

The thing is with AI, GIGO applies. Ask a poorly formed question and you will recieve an answer that is unreliable.

or … here is a thing. Go and find original source material and fucking look at the data behind whatever is being reported for accuracy and whether it is a legitimate conclusion. Like the rest of us do!

Shedmistress · 22/07/2026 16:03

Either explain this phenomenon or fuck the fuck off!

Honestly, its been a fucking decade of 'discussions'. If you have no fucking answer to why men can become women then that's on you to resolve.

Not me.

Helleofabore · 22/07/2026 16:01

Again, why the fuck are women being asked to expend energy explaining misogyny?

And how the fuck is being stuck on repeat because a person is demanding that female people discuss how misogyny may and may not cause an issue for some male people ? What the fuck does it have to do with the discussion about whether or not a male person should or should not access female single sex provisions?

It has NO bearing on that outcome. The question remains - so what?

If a group of a different stream is feminism wishes to focus on that, good for them. But the fact that other feminists and women and girl’s rights campaigners disagree that it is a commonality pretty much means it is only a commonality to some people meaning … not really a commonality.

Or how one would go about suggesting that somebody might be using the wrong toilets if the toilets are segregated by identity and that is a private matter.
