Seems to have completed his lurch to the far-right - in addition to his vocal support of Trump, I suppose his 'defender of women and girls' schtick doesn't really wash any more...

Mine would too if I received merely a fraction of the abuse she gets.

Absolutely

Yes absolutely. I feel JKR's belligerence has grown since she first got involved

And KJK.

Yes, exactly.

Or for posters to demand we performatively condemn x person who elsewhere has said x.

But that never flies the other way round does it? Ask TRA's and their supine allies to condemn or even criticise the virulent speech and threats of violence issued by prominent TRAs and......nothing.

Like everything GI it is all one way traffic, the sacred caste can do no wrong.

They always say (general they, not necessarily anyone on this thread) “I certainly don’t support anyone threatening anyone with violence, it’s whataboutery, why is it relevant to me, they’re a tiny minority.” And they have a point. And we have a point in drawing the attention to it, because I think it’s important to show the levels of misogyny of many in the “trans rights” movement and many of their male allies who join in. And it’s directly relevant to why we don’t want men in women’s spaces. Including Graham Linehan or any other man “on our side” as it were. No men. Zero. Nil. Ninguno.

Datun · 20/07/2026 11:56

It's a good point, Keating.

TRAs would much prefer the opposition to come from women who are timid, vulnerable and easy to put down.

And another reason why JKR gets their goat. It's not just her wealth. She's been around the block.

Datun · 20/07/2026 11:55

TheKeatingFive · 20/07/2026 11:52

One point I think is worth making.

Going against the grain on this issue and taking a public stand for women's rights, when there is a huge amount of pressure to conform to the TRA viewpoint, takes a certain type of personality.

It often falls to people who are a bit more bolshy and contrary than average. Who aren't afraid to be a bit belligerent. It's not surprising to me that this type of personality is not going to come across as universally lovely. They're prepared to ruffle feathers.

I think Graham fits this mould. As well as someone like Ricky Gervais.

And KJK.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2026 11:53

Cross post with @TheKeatingFive who said it better!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2026 11:53

And he is brave. I don’t think that means he’s not ever stupid, misguided or wrong. Just that he is brave to take on the TRAs. He didn’t need to. Yes he likes the drama. Plenty of people that applies to, including plenty on RSOH.

I agree with you that it’s a very common experience on FWR. Or for posters to demand we performatively condemn x person who elsewhere has said x. We are not Graham Linehan’s keepers. I agree with many things he has said, and there are many things he has said I do not agree with. That goes for lots of people. Matt Walsh, Ann Widdecombe (who incidentally saw the problems with sex and gender identity in the Equality Act that we now experience long before everyone else and was one of the only voices pointing them out) , KJK. I don’t like purity spirals, which is what this thread is.

Totally.

I don't know what these posters know of the women on here, but seriously, no-one buys 'but I'm just discussing the view points of a man I disagree with, isn't that what you do on FWR'?

Although, I can certainly think of 25,000 reasons why they want to discuss this one.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2026 11:48

Igneococcus · 20/07/2026 09:31

There would be half as many posts about GL on FWR if it weren't for the threads that tell us off about not being critical enough of him.

Indeed, and that’s why they have to start them rather than join one of the “fan club” threads, which are rare to non existent.

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 20/07/2026 11:02

Once again, I am GC, but my opposition to TRAs doesn't mean I can justify the level of harassment Linehan engages in.

Nobody has asked you to. If what he says bothers you so much why don’t you just avoid reading his whole twitter feed?

You are making many assumptions and generalisations about that everyone else thinks in order to berate us for not unquestioningly accepting your rather hyperbolic account of his actions.

I think he’s just a normal bloke who is an excellent comedy writer who has joined a conversation that he felt strongly debut and has had his life utterly destroyed by the trans activist bullied who have also managed to get the police to join in the harassment and bullying. I feel bad for him that sticking his head above the parapet for a good cause has caused this turmoil for him and I personally feel inclined to cut him a bit of slack while not always agreeing with what he says.

You seem very het up about the whole thing so respectfully I would suggest you take a step back and try not to read his stuff as closely. You might feel better for it.

This.

I must admit to laughing at the accusation of women who don’t agree with the accuser being called sheeple. When those accusations are made by usernames prone to regurgitating shallow argument as if it was profound insight when it doesn’t even withstand basic analysis.

I am reminded though, Eresh, of usernames of the past who complained that their flawed arguments weren’t treated gently enough. The ‘I am only stating my opinion’ type argument, while that poster is rather prone to quickly resorting to name calling and using derogatory language for anyone who disagreed with them is common. Or perhaps it is more accurate to point out it is a commonality of some posters.

Gardening for “Our Graham”
Many defensive threads like this one
Tribunal threads (including fundraising)
Etc. and ad nauseam

To be fair, Graham was treated totally unfairly by the UK police, which has been admitted by them and he has been reimbursed accordingly.

So anyone supporting that was 100% in the right. It's not about being a 'fan' it's about recognising unlawful treatment.

That does not mean that he is a paragon of virtue outside that and the general consensus of this board would support that view.

TheKeatingFive · 20/07/2026 11:21

BlessingYou · 20/07/2026 11:13

Does this logic apply to Trump threads too? Do you tell posters there to contact Trump directly to let him know how they feel about him?

This is a discussion board. People discuss things and other people.

I'm not sure what this comparison is supposed to illustrate.

This thread wasn't started to just vent about Graham.

It is suggesting that the posters on this board have some level of culpability for his actions, as his 'fan club'.

How does that apply to Trump. Who are we theoretically saying is responsible for Trump's actions?

BlessingYou · 20/07/2026 11:19

TheKeatingFive · 20/07/2026 09:52

Why on earth do you think we are his 'fan club'?

The wide range of opinions doesn't mean that there aren't many in several threads who are willing to overlook his misogyny - it's galling to see him described as 'brave' when he's pretty consistently shown himself to be a thin-skinned bully.

His twitter feed is full of clear harassment aimed at GC women. And, yes, to transpeople to - I'm sorry, but disagreeing with TRAs does not justify the level of vitriol and defamation that Linehan will spout. He'll frequently single out and mock transpeople who haven't engaged with him, and constantly conflates all transpeople with TRAs. Once again, I am GC, but my opposition to TRAs doesn't mean I can justify the level of harassment Linehan engages in.

I'm as GC as they come, but he's consistently been a spiteful, vindictive little man

On the contrary at 6'4" Linehan is a big man.

Well to be fair he has been brave in standing up to pressure from his ex friends in the industry.

That doesn't mean he's a wonderful person in general.

I find this urge to put people in 'good guy' / 'bad guy' camps really weird to be honest. Most people are a complex mixture of both.
