Disney is not failing because of female leadership. The company's recent challenges stem from broad industry shifts—like streaming losses, declining box office returns for established franchises, and massive post-pandemic theme park costs. Leadership and character decisions are a separate, distinct issue.

Disney’s top-level leadership has historically been—and remains—overwhelmingly male. The company is currently led by CEO Bob Iger and managed by an executive team and Board of Directors largely composed of men. While women like Dana Walden hold prominent executive roles, the strategic direction of the company is dictated by a wider board.

The right has long been weaponising Disney's decline as a consequence of wokism/'diversity' in some movies but that's just their playbook to pretend the sky is falling down because of it & not other more cogent factors.

Lineham has form exploiting causes like women's rights to funnel his gullible fans to far right politics & he's doing the same here with this bogus appeal to 'merit'.

Of course his GC allies won't ever be convinced of his betrayal just like a person looks away from their partners abuse/infidelity because of the tradeoffs.

I don't think he was the only person to raise eyebrows, or tweet, about the patriarchy question. Several parents, possibly students, thought it a ridiculous question in 2026.

Lasseter took a voluntary six month sabbatical from Disney after multiple allegations of sexual harassment of multiple people over many years. He admitted to the behaviour and apologised. His contract later expired and was not renewed. As far as the critique on Disney's change of direction is concerned - trust me, they're following the money. There are plenty of similar cases where quality took a perceived nosedive in the view of loyal fans, and it was often in cases where men replaced women.

The "patriarchy" question seems completely standard and run of the mill to me, and I finished school in the '90s. I have no idea about what's even supposed to be controversial about it. Or why we're all supposed to care one way or the other about dudebro's knee-jerk opinions.

I think you’ve got a vivid imagination Giddy. His response regarding the question on patriarchy is because Ireland is about as patriarchal as a country can get. He’s being ironic. His retweeting of the post on Disney/ Pixar movies decline in quality is based on the fact that since this man was fired, production quality has declined.

If you think he’s arguing for removing women’s suffrage I think you’ve clearly misunderstood.

Maybe because it wasn’t genuinely female-led but rather da menz appointed a girlie so as to make it all look nice and progressive instead of (for example) doing something about the Disney Channel’s habit of psychologically and in some cases sexually abusing their young female stars?

And of course the woman appointed wouldn’t have been chosen because she was the best candidate so it’s quite likely that quality would drop. Doesn’t mean NO woman could do the job and I’m certain he wasn’t saying that.
