I think most organisations have some such rule written into their employment contracts/HR social media policies. Problem is for a university which are notoriously left wing and inclusive they probably agree with him but can’t be seen to be agreeing with him! I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps his job. Shame.

I’m not sure this is a good thing. I wonder what they’ve charged him with. Presumably misuse of communications and being grossly offensive.

Neither do I. Being offensive is not an offence, despite what that police van announced quite a while back. He could do with a good shunning, though.

Although this person's message was distasteful, I'm can't quite see how it meets the criminal threshold. Publicly hoping that a deceased individual's death was "extremely painful", and hoping that she died screaming shackled to her bed (referencing the pregnant prisoner story) is disturbing, but as Ann Widdecome herself said:

"Nobody has the right to live their lives being protected from offence or from insults or from hurt feelings."

The posts were made before the manner of Widdecome's death was made known, which makes it... slightly less worse?

That said, if the individual's employers see fit, they should be free to dismiss them for gross misconduct for making statements that reflect poorly.

I don't know if it can still be done lawfully, but there was a time when bringing your employer into disrepute was grounds for dismissal. HH has done Aberdeen University no favours in recent days, that's for sure.

These are the people our MPs, MSPs, councillors, virtually every registered charity in the country, most big businesses, schools, professions and just about everyone in authority has listened to and as a result just handed over women's rights and tossed away the hard-won safeguarding provisions for children and other vulnerable people which were of such recent vintage? I agree that he shouldn't have been arrested, free speech is for all including the horrible herberts. That said I am enjoying the fact that they've finally got around to arresting one of these keyboard warriors who think making vile and disgusting threats against women is just their way of expressing their perceived victimhood. He's an IT guy, from a gaming world prospective he's lost all his lives and points. 😂

I do love the ending - so you're saying that 'we're turning into north america' but you also say that you're not worried? They just can't argue logically (because it's not logical).
