Has Burnham's team made any comment about this, does anybody know?

Was the minute of silence whilst they watched the others acting out their deepest fantasies and getting all stabby, by any chance? Just a few moments where they try to think of how they can rationalise away how much these people enjoyed simulating murder? Or were they just thinking 'Oh, I'd really love to be doing that as well but it might prove a little awkward later'?

Can't compare that scenario really - they were disciplined by their employers, and mostly for being caught / bringing the service into disrepute. The Forces also need to be seen to be politically neutral.

As previous posters have stated, we have this kind of sectarian behaviour every year in N Ireland - flags of countries and pictures of politicians are burned on bonfires because the bonfire attendees hate them so much.

It's so strange seeing the growth of sectarian politics in GB when, for decades, things like this mostly only happened in NI as a result of our fractured/divided society, and the majority view in GB was to view us as a bizarre, regressive outlier within the UK/Ireland.

I wouldn't wish this type of politics on any country because it never achieves anything positive and it always ends up with people being killed for their political beliefs or their background. It leads to us not seeing other people as human.

Given the focus on trans day of remembrance, I think it is fair for us to assume that the trans community collect data with the same or more diligence than 'Counting Dead Women'. If we therefore assume that the linked table is accurate, then, happily, it is very rare for a trans person to die because of actual violence, and suicide is also rare. It is of course difficult to assign suicide to one cause.

But that's a long dead figure who lived in a long ago historical time when beheading your enemies was a regular occurrence. Surely we don't want to go back to those days?

I'm just glad it was an effigy of Burnham and not some poor anonymous woman they decided to stab. Hopefully now he'll understand why we think they pose a real risk to our safety.
