What a delightful “young woman” comments on Widdecombe death

I'd love it if all of Heather's colleagues - and indeed every one of the students there - point-blank refused to attend whilst he was there, as they don't feel that their safety is being prioritised.

That's the argument that is invariably brought out when it's the other way around, and somebody makes verbal comments about disagreeing with the activists, isn't it?

If so, why ever wouldn't somebody publicly declaring their wish for an elderly person to suffer immense pain (with a non-too-subtle suggestion of rape) before being murdered be considered far more of a genuine threat to the safety of everybody surrounding them?

Imagine working at Aberdeen Uni and knowing that you're sharing spaces with a man who fantasises about the death of an elderly women in this way.
As others have said - "when someone shows you who they really are, believe them the first time".

Indeed. She would have used her intelligence, honesty and integrity in using her words to robustly debate - rather than waiting until somebody she disagreed with had died and only then 'bravely' shouting nasty, hateful things about them. For some reason, Heather is unwilling and/or intellectually unequipped to be able to do the same.

Everybody - including Ann herself - was under no illusions that many of her opinions were controversial; but she made a name for herself and gained widespread respect and stateswoman status all on her own, through hard work, determination and personal integrity - starting in an era when female politicians automatically faced an uphill, misogyny-filled struggle in their careers.

Heather, on the other hand, is just a bitter nobody seeking to gain infamy through inciting pathetic hatred. Ask 100 people at random if they've heard of Ann Widdecombe and then ask them if they've heard of Heather Herbert. Your findings will not surprise you.

Try reading my post again - Anne defended the policy. The policy stated that handcuffs should be removed during labour. Unfortunately the policy was not always correctly applied which resulted in it's removal later when the risk of women escaping was deemed less damaging than the policy being incorrectly applied.

What was his point there anyway? That he should have been allowed to do that in the ladies toilets? Or was it a comment on flight delays?

Genuinely don't see his reasoning for posting that other than attention-seeking.

This. I didn't agree with a lot of things she said but she did not advocate handcuffing women whilst in labour. She was firmly against it.

I hope he gets sacked. He deserves to be.

I think he could be sacked for his social media presence- it’s good for young people to see that there is a line about bringing your “whole” self to work. They must have a policy.

Labour, then Green... explains all the hate for an elderly mirder victim whose views you don't agree with. No harm is reasonable debate but those parties always spew hate on anyone they disagree with (ex Labour and ex Green voter here as I dislike their endless spiteful hate).

Ann didnt advocate women in labour being handcuffed. Transported to the maternity unit yes, but handcuffs off in labour. A little research would tell you that

The handcuffs may have been a reference to the policy of female prisoners being handcuffed to the bed when giving birth, a policy Anne defended but restraints were actually supposed to be removed upon the onset of labour.

The handcuffs comment sounds pretty much like he's got off on fantasising the violent death of a woman. Surprise surprise.

Would you really want to work with someone who made such vile comments? Personally I think there is a big difference between saying I’m glad she died to coming up with some horrible scenario about how he wished she should have died. Horrible man!

Not just the Daily Mail. A lot of people won't read it or believe it if it is in the DM. You only have to look at mumsnet to see that. I doubt it will be mentioned in the Guardian or on the BBC.
