Scotgov will not appeal and the current transgender policy has been withdrawn. At long bloody last!!

For Women Scotland (@ForWomenScot) on X

Scottish Government will not appeal Lady Ross's ruling on prisons.

So you are celebrating society moving backwards? The comments here are ridiculous.

Have any of you wondered why trans women were moved to women’s prisons in the first place? It wasn’t because people campaigned for it or any ‘trans rights’. It was because the prison guards were sick of having to clean up the mess after they were attacked constantly. All this does is create a bigger problem in the prison population for woefully under staffed and under paid prison guards.

Crikey, don't know what to say about this. Men are attacked in prison by other men, so the answer, in order to stop them getting beaten up, is not to protect them, or increase sentences for their attackers, but to put them in another prison which houses prisoners of the opposite sex - women.
Who was the idiot who thought that one up, or thought it was a morally correct thing to do?

Wasn't it?

Tara Hudson in Bristol, in 2015?

There was a major campaign about him when he was put inside for for twelve weeks for violently assaulting a barman (he already had a record for violence serious enough to be taken to court on eight previous occasions) and was initially housed in the men's estate for six of them before public pressure got him moved to a prison intended for women only. His case was then used as a template to say that men who identified as women should be housed with women s̶o̶ ̶l̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶y̶ ̶h̶a̶d̶ ̶l̶a̶r̶g̶e̶ ̶e̶n̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ ̶f̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶r̶k̶s̶.

The women were not at any time asked whether they wanted to be housed with violent men, obviously.

Fuxache! They didn't question why someone on a life sentence had a clean criminal record?! Are they so stupid that the imagine that unconvicted people go to jail?

Yes.

Well I've just read this, and it's as clear as mud. So highly suspicious. This man was a sadistic murderer and under his new, woman's name he had a completely clean criminal record.

And just to set you straight on your other claim, that putting men in women’s prisons was not due to campaigning, this is from James Morton, a trans-identified woman, who specifically campaigned for men to be put in women’s prisons:

We strategised that by working intensively with the Scottish Prison Service to support them to include trans women as women on a self-declaration basis within very challenging circumstances, we would be able to ensure that all other public services should be able to do likewise.

Thank you, I was in a car park when I read that claim and didn't have time to go find this quote.

Elizabeth Fry was on the five pound note for years and too many people don’t even know what she did for women, and somehow think women’s prisons are just a whim of an idea that can be reversed on an equal whim.

So many people seem to have swallowed wholesale all sorts of rubbish about why some services, activities and facilities are women-only. I've seen posts that seem to suggest that having separate women's sport is a way of keeping women out of the elite competition so men can have all the medals and records. They seem to have great difficulty in grasping that it's not talking women down to point out that women's bodies are different from men's, it's reality. Women's bodies are far more complex than men's because as female mammals our bodies have evolved to be capable of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Not all women actually make use of those capabilities, but that's irrelevant to evolution. Men's bodies don't have any of that complex stuff going on so have been able to evolve to be bigger and stronger, amongst other differences. The various sports were first devised to suit the male body so those who can run fastest, jump highest, throw furthest and so on get the medals and break the records. If women were lumped into the same competition as men, in all sports except equestrian events we would rarely do well, and in many sports we would be at great risk of harm, so we would probably see a huge downturn in female participation. All so obvious, but not to the gender ideologues.

When it comes to the prison system, you'd have thought anybody with two brain cells to rub together could see why male criminals need to be kept apart from women. There are roughly 87000 prisoners in England and Wales, 8200 in Scotland and 1900 in Northern Ireland. About 4% of those prisoners are female, so under 4000 women. They are far less likely to be there because they have committed a violent offence and vanishingly unlikely to have been imprisoned for committing a sexual offence. However, in England and Wales alone there are nearly 16000 men in prison for sexual offences.

How can these geniuses not see that criminals are particularly likely to be manipulative, dishonest, violent and mentally disturbed? Why would you automatically believe a man of that ilk if he suddenly says 'I identify as a woman now, so you've got to call me Lola'? Nothing else they say is taken on trust.

In the UK you can change your name without any paperwork. I could change my name on my CV and then use it at my new job. I could have 2 names, one at work and one at home, as some married women do. If I don't disclose the other name when applying for a criminal records check, how do they know about it?

It differs by jurisdiction

Toffeefudgecaramel · 24/06/2026 11:33

stickygotstuck · 24/06/2026 10:43

Thanks Arabella.

Like @mrshoho , I'd like to think that the details of someone's old name would be automatically linked. But something tells they are not. Unfortunately, I also find the link posted by @Toffeefudgecaramel very unclear.

More generally, I'm not thinking specifically of enquiring after a person's sex. I really can't see why any convictions shouldn't be automatically flagged in someone's record. Whether their sex has been falsified or not. When you change your name you are still the same person.

I find it unbelievable that unless you tell them, they don't know that Andrea Smith used to be called Andrea Jones. Let alone Andrew Jones.

The mind truly boggles. This is an extremely serious situation.

Imagine thinking that preventing men from being locked up with vulnerable women is an indication of society moving backwards. What a thoroughly shameful way of thinking.

I definitely think it’s worth celebrating. But then I’ve always put women’s safety before men’s wants.

DBS for those with a GRC

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/transgender-applications

'The sensitive applications route gives transgender applicants the choice not to have any gender or name information disclosed on their DBS certificate, that could reveal their previous gender identity.'

stickygotstuck · 24/06/2026 10:43

ArabellaScott · 24/06/2026 08:53

If a person has a GRC they can request a special sensitive route for a DBS check. This means their previous name wont be disclosed.

The disclosure rule is that if you have had to enquire about somebody's sex or GRC status it is illegal to share that info outwith relevant circs.

Its been a.while since I checked the details so would double check this hasn't changed.

The argument given was that as long as the person applying is honest about any previous names, all should be fine.

Thanks Arabella.

Vulnerable female prisoners are not human shields, validation resources or support humans. The female prison estate is not a convenient resource to be utilised for the benefit of men.

Quite astonishing that a (presumably) grown adult thinks they are, frankly.

Given that many here have been campaigning for a decade for women’s prisons to be female only, too right we’re celebrating this court victory.

I’ve said before, James and the odious NHSE fiddler Stephen Whittle have a lot to answer for.

I agree, even worse than TiM's, they've been able to project their miserable self-loathing on all of us. 😡

"We strategised that by working intensively with the Scottish Prison Service to support them to include trans women as women on a self-declaration basis within very challenging circumstances, we would be able to ensure that all other public services should be able to do likewise."

Now they've failed in the SPS does that mean they will now fail in all other public services. 🙏

You have this the wrong way round. Putting males in female prisons was society moving backwards. Elizabeth Fry and Nelson Mandela knew the risks of incarcerating males and female together. It’s a disgrace that the authorities tried to gaslight us that there was no risk to women by putting transwomen in female prisons. It was a shameful experiment that resulted in terrible harm to women and thankfully the courts have restored women’s rights and safety.

Hard agree!
If there is risk in housing TW in mens' prisons then that risk needs addressing in the mens' prison, not just transferring the risk to the female estate!!

Why are women the solution to these men's problems?

Until this thread, which I only spotted today, I didn't see a whisper of any of this in the news. Following this thread I had to go into The Telegraph, Time and BBC to search, had to go to the UK sections, then into the Scotland section. Very odd especially since I'm very atunned to this particular issue.

Yes, I only saw it on my Twitter feed. I've been on other news sites at least a couple of times a day, but haven't seen it reported anywhere else.
