Rupert Lowe’s rape gang enquiry, report published

I do not doubt Lowe's integrity.

It's clear why there has not been a full enquiry before; the Schools, NHS, Police, Social Services, the Taxi services were, or perhaps still are, all complicit.

I suspect they wouldn’t have used deliberately inflammatory, racist and anti-immigration language to cynically exploit these victims to their own political advantage. 🤷‍♀️

Yes these were atrocities.
Yes huge lessons need to be learned
No to prefacing the ‘report’ with: “Britain has an immigration problem”.
No to the cynical use of victims’ testimonies to further political propaganda and whip-up social division.
No to arguably further exploiting these victims.

This report has been written in such a way as to deliberately stir-up racial tension.

It was funded by Restore Britain. Which should ring alarm bells.

Such huge, important reviews need to be non-partisan. I don’t want to read propaganda.

He's written a foreword which I don't think comes across well.

Its possible to be vehement and still be professional, in fact if you want to succeed in politics I would say its necessary.

I believe he's handed his opponents some ammunition and that that was a foolish and unnecessary thing to do. The language detracts from the gravity of the report and from the reasonable recommendations (some are reasonable. Some sound batshit and ill considered). It suggests a referendum on the death penalty - I'm worried that will overshadow anything else.

He wants to show that he's a politics A lister. I don't think he's succeeded in doing that.

I hope the report gets some traction and helps to get justice for the victims. Im worried that he's handed his opponents a reason to dismiss it.

Thank God that someone has organised a thorough investigation. What a pity that the politicians who were in power at the time did not act as Rupert Lowe MP has.

Thank you for posting. I know this has Rupert Lowe's name as chair but as I understand this is a cross party effort. I will read through over the next couple of days. We already know so much but what I am concerned with is whether anything has changed. How are children being protected right now?

I've started looking at it. The language is surprisingly emotive for a professional report (understandable given the subject matter but nevertheless surprising for a report of this nature).

The foreword by Lowe calls for the death penalty, which obviously we currently don't have.

I have a bad feeling about the likelihood of Lowe trading on these terrible experiences for political capital.

I've only read a few extracts. Those poor girls and young women. I can't take any more right now, it just gets worse and worse.
