Scotgov plans a 'domestic' approach to the SC judgment

'The Scottish Government has stated that it accepts the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman, however, last week the First Minister suggested a “domestic approach” would be taken.
Mr Swinney told LBC: “We have to consult on the recent guidance and consider the guidance that has come out of the EHRC, to ensure that we can apply that into our domestic approach and that is exactly what the Scottish Government will do.”'

Women are watching.

The 'gender woo' is 100% radical, oppressed territory and with which they can 'stick it' to the establishment.

Wales take note-we're next! We'll want to do something creatively different from Scotland, unheard of in NI, and diametrically opposed to whatever approach England decides to take.

I'm wondering what they can actually do that would be legal. Do they have authority over building codes so could require buildings open to the public too, for instance, change all toilets to single occupancy cubicles? I don't think there is much that could be done about that but it would be hugely expensive for businesses. An alternative that might be more palatable would be mandating single cubicles alongside single sex provision.

I really can't see how Scotland can legally go against the Supreme Court ruling. But what else could a "domestic approach" possibly mean?

Equalities issues are not devolved matters so it will be interesting to see what lattitude the Scottish government feels it has to interfere.

Turnout of c 50%.

Of that 50%, around 30% voted SNP.

It's not a resounding mandate.
