as mentioned in other threads, I really am concerned about compliance. I know it will never be 100% but am concerned about what blatant non compliance may lead to

The one woman is the MN thread of some time ago that you used as your example. I see you have been googling since.

I promise you no gender critical feminist considers any of the women you mentioned to be anything other than female. You seem to have shofted the goalposts a bit....

I won't disagree that Women in the public eye do attract a load of misogyny, often of their looks.

Ironically, TRAs are often the worst at gender policing women. Have you ever noticed how often the go-to insult for feminist gender critical women is to do with how they look? Very weird.

This. It’s so … revealing?

Men pretending to be women but still can’t stop obsessing about how women look.

Just put her name in the search terms and scroll through the posts. There's probably plenty deleted by Mumsnet now that there's a court case, but you will get the idea

Nope, I would like you to back up your assertions please.

I suspect I could be looking for a very very long time trying to find gender critical feminists on FWR suggesting Brigitte Macron is actually a man. I suspect, in fact, that if such posts do exist at all they were posted by people who are not FWR regulars and were strongly disputed.

"Just a heads up Mumsnet are discussing this post, in a thread rather ironically started by a man in a women's space. It's the usual cluster fuck of "we can always tell" plus posters openly admitting the point is to make our lives hard enough to deter transition."

<waves>

What's up guys? You don't like Mumsnet coming into "your space" and reading your comments?

Dear Redditors,

Mumsnet is not and has never been a "women's space". That's why there is a talk topic called "Dadsnet". FWR is not a "women's space", it is to discuss women's rights, including the right of OP's daughter to single-sex changing rooms at school.

We don't want you to transition in the same way that we don't want anorexics to starve themselves or depressed people to commit self-injury.

And yes, we can usually tell sex on sight, even when disguised. Brow ridges don't lie.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 10/06/2026 23:35

Yes. And I spend a lot of time on FWR. Can you link to some please?

Good grief, where are you getting your one woman from? 😂

Is your one woman Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France who has been relentlessly hounded by right-wing figures saying that she is transgender to the extent that she has had to submit medical and photographic evidence to the contrary to sue them? And that's not causing her any harm, no? 🥱

Is your one woman perhaps Michelle Obama or Lady Gaga or Jacinda Arden?

Maybe it's Taylor swift or Madonna or Jamie Lee Curtis, Margot Robbie or Beyoncé?

There are myriad public female figures and private female individuals who are hounded relentlessly with speculation about their sex because of the myopic obsession that seems to bizarrely exist for people who have nothing better to do with their time, and think that this is a worthwhile focus for them. It seems to be a speciality for the gender critical, and with this new law I am sure you will be delighted to put your speciality to good use with the backing of legislation.

Irrelevant.

I'm talking about how weird it is that TRAs like yourself place more weight on one woman being misgendered than on multiple trans women committing offences.

Also irrelevant because (1) the women were already there so no additional risk created, (2) the offending patterns are very different, (3) the physical risk is higher due to male size and strength, (4) the socialisation changes the way women react to the danger.

This happens already. Like many gender-non-conforming women, I've been 'challenged' in women's toilets.
It doesn't take the form of 'going up to someone in a bathroom [toilet - the facilities that do not have baths in them] and say i think you’re a man, prove you’re a woman if you want to stay here?'

It takes the form of 'Excuse me, this is the ladies!'
I deal with it by replying in a friendly tone - 'That's OK, I'm in the right place'
which resolves the issue - a second glance enables the challenger to ID me as a woman, because it's really not that difficult; she perceives my non-aggressive and friendly attitude; and she hears my voice; she recognises me as a woman.

It happens. No drama. I welcome the challenge because it is an indicator of women proactively protecting women's spaces.

Any man who has genuinely made a mistake will quickly leave.

Any man who has deliberately entered a space which he knows is designated for women only should quickly leave, but if he stays, he is 'outing' himself as a transgressor, and his actions may result in security/management, and eventually if he causes a public nuisance, the police being called to deal with him.

I welcome the challenge because it is an indicator of women proactively protecting women's spaces.

Same here.

The guidance is pretty much null and void by the lack of a way to prove sex bit. Honestly, unless they brought in pants inspections, same sex toilets and changing rooms can't realistically be policed anyway. This was a question a lot of us have asked time and time again - okay, you want single-sex spaces...how do you prove what sex people are? Answer there came none, and so this is the situation we now have.

Do you think that polling station officials were checking genitals prior to 1918? And yet they had no problem detecting women attempting to vote.

Victorian prudery mostly.

Elizabeth Fry and John Howard would beg leave to differ.

If you don't know who they are, I suggest you find out.

Imagine seducing people in toilets, bleurgh. Perhaps that's worse than men hanging out in the ladies' handing out tampons to women, though it's a close call.

One reddit bloke says "I made a statutory declaration stating my intent to live as a woman for the rest of my life, and I plan to do so."

If he was really living as a woman, he'd be taking into account women's feelings, and certainly not trying to make woman feel uncomfortable.

But no, he's clearly continuing to live as a man, taking up space that he isn't entitled to no matter the consequences to others.

If he was really living as a woman, he wouldn’t be posting shit on a webpage for trans people, because he’d be a woman, and women don’t do that, innit?

I am most disappointed, where is the "you don't want me to go into then gents, I'm so gorgeous and I'll be seducing your husbands? Have they given up on that one?

What it will do though is prevent these men from demanding they have access to single sex female spaces. No longer will they be able to loudly threaten organisations with claims of discrimination or give a long list of demands. Take the NHS as an example who were so confused with how to facilitate trans employees that they ended up walking all over their female employee's rights and protections. The fear of offending a trans identifying employee who had the backing of Stonewall and trade unions was too complicated to get their heads around. Now the law has been clarified this nonsense will thankfully end.

How many women have commited crimes since then? We have to share the toilets with them too.

I find that type of man really annoying, They’re ‘rules lawyers’ of the mindset that technically correct is the best kind of correct.

I don’t know why ‘Karens’ get all the hate when rules lawyer blokes are ten a penny and have insufferable levels of male entitlement to draw on.

It's exactly the same energy as the men who try to explain to us why our desire not to sleep with them is logically invalid and expect us to feel obliged to drop our knickers.

Too many men believe women's boundaries are just a proposal from which to start negotiations.

suggestionsplease1 · 10/06/2026 15:09

Most other laws are at least introduced being capable of being policed, without potentially violating additional laws (in respect of GDPR, privacy, assault and battery) in the act of so doing.

Plenty of laws "potentially" would require violating additional laws (in respect of GDPR, privacy, assault and battery) in the act of enforcing if 100% enforceability were demanded as a requirement of the law existing.

Want marital rape to remain illegal? In sp1-land that's only a legitimate law if we all sign up to 24 hour bedroom surveillance.

Pingponghavoc · 10/06/2026 20:07

I'm convinced TRA think women only spaces exist just to affirm men with gender identities.

Zoonosis · 10/06/2026 19:47

Victorian prudery mostly.

So not because women wanted them, and still do want them in many parts of the world.

"Women’s public toilets have always been somewhat political, either through moral objections, such as the Victorian ideal of a submissive, house-chained wife, or through the fact that women have campaigned for them. And the politics of women’s toilets is still present today within society: for example, UNESCO recommends single-sex toilets in order to boost women’s access to education. In Mumbai in India, there are fewer toilets for women than for men, and women must also pay more than men to use the facilities. This has led to the ‘Right to Pee’ campaign promoted by Indian feminists."

Obviously we still have them so that we can tell if we’re male or female. If you’re not sure about your sex, just go for a pee and look at the sign on the door as you leave.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/06/2026 19:54

Pingponghavoc · 10/06/2026 15:46

This new argument that, coincidentally, all TRA are using at once, proves that they know they dont pass.

If they passed they could just carry on, certain they wouldn't cause a fuss.

But they want it known that the system is unenforceable in different ways- no one on the door who can ask for id.

They arent just saying that to each other, TRA MPs are saying it in meetings to get the message out to women. They need women to think that they can't challenge a man when hes in a womens space.

One of them said on another Reddit thread that “all trans people have going for them is the uncertainty about the law” (or something)- it benefits them.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/06/2026 19:53

TheKeatingFive · 10/06/2026 19:49

Really? You genuinely think that?

Women's domestic violence centres sex segregated because of Victorian Prudery? 😵‍💫

Wonder if it's the same explanation for the sex crimes of voyeurism and indecent exposure?
