i have decided to dress as Madonna in the “holiday” vibe of her early works.

so i have a high top pony tail and a pointy bra, I have added some doc martins and cropped leggings.

DH is catching up on the horses in the lounge. He will. Be oblivious until dinner is served. I will report back later, as i think the leggings might be a bit of a challenge for him……..

I mean, I get it, my family criticised my outsize jumpers, my monkey boots and DMs, and my mum once said my face looked 'grumpy in repose'. Thinking about it, I had a stand-up row in my local dept. store in 1977 because I rejected the Ladybird cardigan she wanted to buy me had puff shoulders and was itchy skitchy.

Even now, my husband sings a Hornpipe when I wear my wide leg trousers. Bigot!

It's been a long time since I've met anyone that cares that much about how someone dresses. Unless perhaps it's indecent or not suitable for a particular work situation. If a man wants to wear a dress then that's fine. But it's not fine if they want to access women's rape crisis centres or get their dick out in changing rooms on the back of it. And too many of them are demanding to do just that.

If it's just about you wearing what you (not me, I have to say) conceptualise as women's clothes, why do you feel the need to come on here to tell us all about it? As the previous posts have amply demonstrated, nobody here gives a tinker's cuss about about what you wear, as long as you don't try to wear them in a single sex space demarcated for women.

It's your thread. It is considered polite to actually stick around after posting and engage with those who respond. Instead you posted the original post them pissed off for weeks. That is not the done thing on here. It usually indicates someone posting in bad faith.

I don't mind cross dressing - it can look very cool. There are some very arty types round here who do the 'playing with androgyny/femininity' thing very well. That doesn't generally involve kitten heels, fishnets or short skirts.

I reserve the right to (in my head) think whatever I want to think about your sense of style - as I will with anyone. They can of course think what they like about me

If you have fake boobs, then I reserve the right to think you've got a fetish and to not really want you anywhere near me.

I reserve the right to either tell you, or someone in authority, if you go into women's toilets or changing rooms. You don't belong there.

Ha, I initially read in a cathedral, and did think that's inappropriate whoever is wearing it! But in a park, as you say, crack on mate.

I mean people will look, but they do at any bold clothing decision.

I'm not condemning you or telling you what you can or cannot wear. You are a grown up and are perfectly able to choose your own clothes.

I personally hate skirts and dresses so don't wear them and instead can usually be found in joggers or jeans and a t shirt. So if you are comfier in skirts and dresses, with or without petticoats, then honestly why are you overthinking it so much and assuming women are condemning your fashion choices? Some might, most couldn't give a toss, and either way why would you care what some random people that you don't know might think of your clothing choices?

It's 2026, wear what you want. On a personal you level, if you notice people are looking at you it might be because they think you look ridiculous, but it might just as well be because they think you look stunning. Only you can decide which version of what someone else is thinking inside their own head is the version that you are going to attribute to someone looking at you.

And if someone says it out loud that you look ridiculous then it's up to you whether you engage or ignore.

If you want to talk about women condemning what a man wears shall we look at just some of the things that no doubt the majority of woman on this board has had various men, sometimes from through van and car windows or just passing by in the street, or our male boss etc, tell them:

they look ridiculous / tarty / slutty / a mess / a dog's dinner/ mutton dressed as lamb / a slag / a prostitute / a plain jane / a slob / could have tried harder / tried too hard / skirts too short /skirts too long / that style doesn't suit your shape / did you get dressed in the dark? / you look like you're on the pull / did you wear that for me love? Shall I continue?

If a dress or a skirt is what does it for you, then it matters not what others may think, knock yourself out mate.

I saw a man recently in my local cathedral city wearing daisy dukes, stiletto sandals and a red spaghetti strap vest. No one batted an eyelid and it made me feel strangely proud of my fellow citizens

This. But tbf to OP, I have seen MNers get irate at men wearing dresses and I think they totally miss the point. I think men should be free to wear dresses, skirts, blouses, make up jewellery. None of these make them a woman.
