Apparently there has only been one single complaint to English Councils about single sex spaces in 2025

Why shouldn't they take it seriously? Do you think men don't have caring responsibilities for daughters or elderly female relatives? Why shouldn't men complain on their mother's behalf?

This would be useful, since it would reveal how many complaints come from vexatious organised activists rather than genuine concerned members of the public.

Who would someone complain to? Would you ring up the council or would you speak to the manager of the facility? Where would they log the complaints? Would they even log them? Would they pass them on? Do they have systems in place to do so?

I worked for the council as a summer job collecting payments. When we had letters of complaints along with the payments, we didn’t log them. I chucked them in the bin like everyone else.

Regarding the definition of public toilet. There are various definitions. The Sexual Offences Act (2003) defines it for

a)he is in a lavatory to which the public or a section of the public has or is permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise,

Toilets are such vulnerable spaces they get their own section. It continues:

b)he intentionally engages in an activity, and,
(c)the activity is sexual.
(2)For the purposes of this section, an activity is sexual if a reasonable person would, in all the circumstances but regardless of any person’s purpose, consider it to be sexual.

Have any people who have complained cc'd Sex Matters (or similar) with a copy of their email or letter, which would be proof of a complaint having been made?

This wasn't just looking at public toilets, it was looking at any single-sex facility, including toilets and changing rooms, whether for staff or visitors, within any public-run space or building.

Maybe they were only counting complaints from actual service users. It’s unclear why anyone should be taking complaints about the women’s facilities coming from a man particularly seriously.

This was discussed on another thread. All it shows is for the vanishingly few council-run toilets that people can complain to the council about, people have not rung up the council and if they have, the council have not logged the complaint down.

People do complain about toilets: getting trapped, organised sex, filthy state including needles and syringes, smell, lack of hot water and soap, assaults including those on cleaners, arson, people living in them.

There’s no duty on councils to provide toilets. But everyone needs them. What we can do is create designs that prevent misuse. The best design is a single sex set of cubicles, with door gaps, within a single sex environment.

I wouldn't have bothered complaining until very recently. I would have assumed the rozzers would be around for a word about my awful hate crime.

As a tip - always complain or cc the complaint to the councils specific complaints email. The department charged with receiving complaints are more likely to record the complaint than the department complained about.

Well it's not bloody surprising given that any woman who complains about a man in their space gets crucified.

And women don't tend to confront men directly because they have no idea who they are dealing with and VAGW is so prevalent.

Brighton & Hove was one of the 2 out of 62 Unitary Authorities who refused to provide an answer to an FOI.

BTW They only contacted Unitary Authorities so there will be plenty of areas of the country that were not surveyed e.g. only Peterborough, Southend & Thurrock are Unitary Authorities in East Anglia so the rest of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex & Cambridgeshire was ignored.
