I’m puzzled at where this idea that men are violent towards trans women has come from. After all, we women are repeatedly told we have an exaggerated fear of male violence and that we are “weaponising” our trauma when we ask men to stay out of our spaces.

So is it reasonable or unreasonable to fear male violence? Or are we supposed to believe that men are so aggressive that they will harm a trans woman, but simultaneously so gentle that they won’t harm women?

He's blocked me on Twitter, so I've given him a piece of my mind on Facebook.

Imagine - if men were not horrible to trans-IDing men in the men's toilets - and is there any proof other than OJ's low opinion of his own sex? - then there'd be no need for all those expensive fourth spaces, as there'd be no reason for transwomen not to use the toilets designated for their sex.

Think of the savings, OJ, and how that money could be spent something useful and actually needed!

The idea that a trans woman in a male toilet will be subject to humiliation, abuse and violence is absolute nonsense. As a 60 yr old man who has been in countless toilets over the years I can tell you what happens.

Firstly, and most importantly, men do not engage or communicate with other men. You don't make eye contact, you don't say anything. You do your business and you get out as quickly as possible.

Secondly, if you see someone who looks like a woman in the male toilet your first reaction would be double check that you're in the right loo. Then, on the off chance that you decided to say anything to that person it would be along the lines of 'er... excuse me love, I think you've got the wrong toilet'.

Finally, if you clock that the 'woman' is actually a bloke you are almost certainly going to ignore them.

I do find that people who are busy, well-adjusted, and happy tend not to put so much effort into trying to ensure that half the population of the country is denied their own right to a happy, safe life as well.

I don't really think it's true in the main, I don't think many men in the UK care about this at all.

Certainly fewer than the women who care.

He really does hate women, down to expecting a woman (funny how he knows who and who isn't a real woman when it suits him) to give him the use of her body to have his child. Its truly shocking that more people cannot see his utter contempt for women.

Here is an idea, if you recognise male violence is the issue, then ask men to deal with it. We’ve got enough shit to do Owen. FWIW I think unisex toilets in places in the answer. Unisex sporting category’s and unisex prison wings. If people don’t like it tough. Compromise isn’t for everyone but it solves the issue, crack on.
I am a lefty, I want decent healthcare, welfare for those in need, I want decent education and I’m absolutely not opposed to those who work hard in crappy jobs getting government reprisals because the pay that carers, retail, cleaners get is so shite. I’m all for worker rights and protecting the vulnerable and not going into any wars. I’m anti austerity. Yet, Owen Jones makes me queasy. I remember him writing about the demonisation of chavs. Being from social housing/scummy chavvy family etc I agreed with lots of things he said. But he still irked me. Some people just have grifter energy and OJ is one.

It's his acceptance that men will be mean to trans women that gets me - he isn't calling for men to be nice, to be more welcoming. He expects men to be horrible and so it's women's job to fix it. And he doesn't see how that looks.

Sounds like a male problem Owen, you're a male so get your own sex sorted and leave females alone.

But as said above it's not about men accepting some men as they are it's about forcing women to accept men as women.

It is in response to the guidance put before parliament a few days ago in response to the Supreme Court ruling that 'yes, sex does mean sex'.

The default with Owen Jones is always for women to be the collateral damage and/or human shields never, ever to address the problem with men, if there is indeed one since there have been ZERO reports of any incidents in men's toilets towards trans identtifying males.

Again, no suggestion or support for extra facilities, just budge up women, get your tits out for the lads.

Maybe Jones could be a lead in trying to stop male violence rather than just accepting that it is a problem. I realise this would take time away from whatever ‘fashionable’ cause he’s into at the moment and probably won’t bring him much money on to his YouTube so won’t happen, but there is always hope.
