Birmingham Pride Withdrawal

The UK legal system has become so compromised that an ambulance service showing up at Pride with LGBTQ+ people is now treated as a breach of “political impartiality”.

Public solidarity with LGBTQ+ people has been recast as a partisan act.

We're already 2nd worst score for LGBTQ+ rights out of all of Western Europe (worst for transgender rights) and stuff like this moves the needle further into the red. 😡

When you say trans women, do you mean blokes in a dress?

Sounds a little bit like the discredited Stonewall partner rating scheme. I've pulled my own equally valid, equality rating system out of thin air - surprisingly the UK comes out on top.

Justme56 · 20/05/2026 16:20

I read the other day that the LGBT group at a Uni have stopped the Uni from sponsoring their local Pride, because the Uni has followed the law and provided single sex spaces. Then today I saw Newcastle Pride asking for money due to lack of Sponsorships.

Good news, thanks for letting us know.

2nd worst score, well with a little more effort I'm sure we can get that to 1st. 🥇🥳

Here is hoping!!!

So you’re not actually able to make a point, then? If I’m incorrect, I’m sure you won’t mind clarifying exactly what your point is, as any reasonable person would do.

BiologicalRobot · 20/05/2026 16:04

The UK legal system has become so compromised

Please explain. If you are talking about the SC judgement then it was only clarifying existing law.

All of the staff are free to attend as private individuals. It’s not like it’s been banned. It’s just that uniformed staff should not be aligned with any political causes or campaigns to avoid discrimination. Without fear or favour - neutrality at last - how things are supposed to be

SlipperyLizard · 20/05/2026 16:01

When I see organisations displaying the “progress” pride flag, or participating in Pride in its modern form, it tells me that either (1) they have no idea that they are signalling alliance with a contested ideology (gender ideology, which is nothing to do with gay people) which could make gender critical people (whose beliefs are WORIADS) feel unwelcome in the service that they are providing or (2) they fully understand what they are aligning with and intend gender critical people to feel unwelcome.

Neither of these are appropriate for a public body providing a public service.

If the TQ+ was removed from the LGB (ie go back 10 years or so) there would be no issue at all.

You've rather missed the point, haven't you?

You haven’t made an actual point.

You talk about not having rights in this country. What rights do you want that you do not already have protected in law?

Still waiting.

I'm just posting because I'm genuinely curious to see if the OP comes back.

I think there was an article about this on BBC news. It was full of poor mes from partisan organisations. Hang on a sec. I'll go look for it....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgkpe2epz6do

though they did print this, possibly issued through clenched teeth,

In a statement from its executive board, the service said it had not taken the decision "lightly", but had received legal advice that participating as a public body could breach "political impartiality".

Eta. I suspect they will take no action against any staff member who wishes to participate in their own time and in their own clothes. It's not like they'll, to pluck an example from thin air, hunt them down if they should like a few tweets on a private, anonymous twiX account, drive them to attempt suicide and then fire them.

Edited

Any member of a uniformed service is free to attend Pride marches out of uniform.

It is the Services which are not participating in the parades, not the employees of those services in their own time.

Batties · 20/05/2026 15:35

Imagine thinking that paramedics not walking in a parade is a human rights violation

People marching in the 2024 Birmingham Pride parade, through the city centre, Many are carrying rainbow flags and some are blowing whistles.

West Midlands Ambulance Service will not participate in Pride

West Midlands Ambulance Service says its decision is guided by "political impartiality" concerns.

How is that the fault of the “UK legal system” exactly?

I do believe it will be ALL public organisations 'cos they will get jumped on otherwise.

Brighton Council will be sad.
