AidaP is scraping Mumsnet threads, and grading them

Honestly, this man is obsessed. He has now created a program to scrape and grade Mumsnet threads from this board.

What is this?

Oh yes, I have downloaded most of mumsnet and we will be doing embeddings of the content to try to understand how does the rot and hate builds and spreads.

I never had so much hate and delusion on my hard drive before 😅

Oh. Just googled Moro, and am now far more mystified. Among other things, it's a pejorative (should I have known that already?!)

DeanElderberry · 30/04/2026 10:15

Morning Marie!

MarieDeGournay · 30/04/2026 10:14

Morning all... I said MORNING ALL... It's me, Marie!
why are you all turning your backs and walking away??

It's They flee from me that sometime did me seek, innit?😟😢😭

Aida's scraping program is now going to decide that "Weetabix" is TERF code for something nefarious 😈

It's food for bigots! 😂

I was amazed the first time I went to New Zealand that they do different Cadbury bars there. How is that fair? My favourite was Moro Gold- very good chewy consistency.

There is also a rival brand called Whittakers that do great big slabs, including coconut flavour which I haven't seen anywhere else. Presumably because all the coconut heretics, like the raisin-whingers on this thread, mess up some sales wonk's bar chart.

I'm going to be spending the day looking up NZ food stockists in the UK aren't I?

Yes - I was shocked to find that the Australians have different bars, like Cherry Ripe! It would be fascinating to see and analyse the market research and theories behind the Ozzies loving that enough for it to be a Cadburys staple... whereas the Brits have barely heard of it (unless I was an outlier... but it seems unlikely, I take deep pride in knowing my Cadburys).

That's a cultural difference far more interesting than anything to do with communication or national character or whatever - it's just so arbitrary! Just... why?!

ETA Just googled Moro Gold, and it looks like a Boost by any other name. Another worrying condundrum - why the different branding? And what's a Moro?

Also, re dessicating, try eating a sloe right off the tree.

It absorbs all the moisture in your body instantaneously.

See also 'Olive straight off the tree'

I couldn't talk for about an hour.

Womanofcustard · 30/04/2026 10:06

Sorry didn’t realise thread had been derailed.
Chopped apricots for me!

Mmmnotsure · 30/04/2026 10:04

quantumbutterfly · 30/04/2026 09:38

You have some knowledge of dried fruit. Is it your raisin d'etre. I'll get my coat.

But is that knowledge currant?

Womanofcustard · 30/04/2026 10:03

Is this the same Aida P who does ‘drag queen story time?’

okay, thread skimmed, lovely to know that Marie will leave ALL the utterly delicious raisins for meeeeee (so generous) but sad to be reminded that I can no longer eat Weetabix (with sugar, and milk from the fridge, I'm not a pervert).

Does anyone remember extra-large raisins that came in a little flat triangular box at Christmas? I used to be given some on a saucer with top-on-the-milk poured over them, back when milk had a top, to be eaten with a teaspoon. They had little nubbles of sweetness within the soft matrix. Such bliss.

TWETMIRF · 30/04/2026 09:40

If your opinion of me has plummeted then that means it can't have been terrible to start with. I'll take that from you, even though you a dry Weetabix and gravy heathen.

Cheers to that!

(toasts TWETMIRF with a non-dessert wine - and most definitely not neat gravy...)

BIWI · 30/04/2026 10:01

Fig rolls can get to fuck.

<gavel>

DialSquare · 30/04/2026 09:59

I’m sitting near the work restaurant and the smell of bacon is driving me mad!

Boiledbeetle · 30/04/2026 09:50

Catiette · 30/04/2026 09:22

A stronger NO even than that following recent disturbing revelations from TWETMIRF about dry Weetabix and straight gravy.

(My opinion of her is plummetting to the depths of the raisin-hating Marie - "shrivelled-up grainy little abominations" indeed).

On the plus side... I'm assuming everyone here approves of buttery toasted Mars Bar sandwiches, ideally made in a toasted sandwich maker?

Ooooh!

<sticks Mars Bars on the shopping order, unearths sandwich maker>

Why would a man who has been rejected by women 'scrape' their words, collect them in a database, and then obsessively classify and 'grade' them?

He's trying to exert control, because he is a narcissist, with an escalating fetish, and he hates women.

I suppose on some level, women/women's words terrify him, so he is attempting to corral them, examine them, and exert power over them.

I'm still part-way through rtft, but my answer to this question from yesterday is that it is a computer-assisted version of the male fascination with accumulating 'wealth', whether material or knowledge based, that used to manifest as stamp collecting and train spotting and rules-heavy religious practice.

Presumably something that was and maybe is useful for the survival of the species, but also something that can turn sinister, particularly if it becomes entangled with sexuality.

Nabokov would have had a field day. His own obsession with entomology, (so much time spent looking at butterfly genitals that he nearly went blind, but also made serious scientific discoveries), and his observation of the darker destinations some men reach. And how little women and children matter to those men.

Aida's scraping program is now going to decide that "Weetabix" is TERF code for something nefarious 😈

Are you saying that Weetabix aren’t nefarious?

Boiledbeetle · 30/04/2026 09:45

quantumbutterfly · 30/04/2026 09:05

Someone will try that now..there are some very impressionable people around.

I'd give it a go, but then I like my weetabix with Marmite on them!

Dessert wine is like dissolving a pound of sugar in a teaspoon of water and then drinking it neat, through a straw.

But with alcohol!

Chersfrozenface · 30/04/2026 09:29

Sorry to get all Bluestocking on you but...

Raisin is just the French for grape

Currants were originally called raisins of Corauntz, from the Anglo-Norman raisins de Corauntz, = French raisins de Corinthe, meaning (dried) grapes of Corinth, the port in Greece from whence they were first imported.

That would be divinely comedic, certainly! 😂

I'm not the only one with that earworm now then. It is a great song

Dessert wine? For breakfast? With bounty bars?

Okay, then.
