I once had a pair of black and silver spiky platform boots, like Gene Simmonds. After wearing them out one saturday night, all my work colleagues and I came back to mine, I had one colleague lodging with me at the time, and I was so drunk I decided to go to bed early, and by early I mean hours before he did and the front room was still buzzing. Around 1am or something.

I went to sleep and woke up the next morning and couldnt move. I tried turning right, then left, and then came to and tried to work out what was wrong. I'd gone straight to bed without removing the boots so the sheet was so wrapped around them it had cocooned me up like a huge stinking mess of a caterpillar, all the way up the bed.

I've never owned silver strappy things. Or strappy things in general. I'd break them in 5 seconds.

I always wanted pair of silver platform boots with a white lightning bolt on the side. Glam rock was not still a thing at this time. I still want these boots even though I'd probably break my neck just trying to stand in them, let alone walking.

this probably sounds a bit 4 Yorkshiremen, but I had those too, only I outgrew them without wearing them out due to a growth spurt and my parents couldn’t afford another pair so dad cut the shoe leather to make them open toed so I could wear them without squashing my feet too badly.

I didn’t half get the piss taken out of me for being a “pov” (not helped by my “party dress” actually being a pretty nightie). But a mixture of pride and bloody mindedness even at a young age meant I never showed my upset to either school or my parents.

They weren't as cool as those, basically bog standard black school shoes with those soles. They were fashionable for about five minutes when I was a sprog.

I didn't mind having to wear that outfit, it was nicely chosen,and if a dress was stylish enough for me as a child, I tolerated it OK.

I did eventually get black patent Mary Janes, where the strap could be folded back to make them slip-on.

I've never forgiven my mother for making 10 year old me wear a pink dress and patent leather shoes to her wedding.

Thankfully the rest of the time I lived in jeans and normal brown leather sandals.

I had strappy silver or gold party shoes as a child, I think they were from BHS. My mother was of the opinion that learning to walk in (small) heels was a life skill.

Ooooooh you have reminded me. I was up late last night and ended up watching 'To Think Like A Killer' on iPlayer. I met to recommend it on here.

Its about the career of Dr Ann Burgess who revolutionised how the FBI and the world hunts criminals and how she changed the prospects and treatment of survivors of sexual crime.

Its very much a programme that would interest many of you here because of how it focus on the barriers and sexist attitudes she came across.

But more than that, it also looks at the development of profiling criminals and the patterns they follow and how you can see them escalating and how a huge amount centres around power and control over others.

Fascinating programme. Well worth a worth.
