Sadly, not a Monty Python sketch.

Matt Rattley, a large bearded bloke who wears giant fake breasts, appears to be happily working at Oxford Uni.

I was really hoping this wasn't true but there is even a youtube video with him talking while wearing the giant breasts and red lipstick, applied to a degree any circus clown would be accused of overdoing it. The video includes a slide stating he works as a lecturer and tutor in the Biochemistry Dept at Oxford. He's also on LinkedIn.

I mean, how obvious can it be that this is a sexual fetish which he is involving unconsenting students and staff in???

Dr P on X has been (correctly) very robust on this case:

""This is Matt Rattley saying, "I can do whatever I please and nobody can stop me".

This is highly antisocial, abnormal, boundary-violating, paraphilic behaviour.

And we should not be afraid to say so."

Yes.

The positioning of that child's face - it's disgusting.

Funnywonder · 26/04/2026 14:11

I could happily support him wearing the dress and makeup. They’re just window dressing. But the fake boobs? No way. He should keep his fetish at home. I agree with pp’s assertion that he’s involving everyone in his kink. A bit of a laugh for men. But intimidating, demeaning and intrusive for women. Mission accomplished.

QldGCandproud · 26/04/2026 14:08

I'm starting to think you know, its not enough to laugh and fume at these dickheads on Mumsnet, even though it feels satisfying. We need to be sending postcards, cards, letters etc to the decision makers. Can we all buy a stash of "get well" cards and postage stamps, and communicate our fury? Please! Let's let Oxford know they are a laughing stock. How else will they know? They sure as hell don't read Mumsnet.

So true. And I think it was an event for a children’s charity, if I remember correctly.

Yes.

@Lady1576 have you see Grayson Perry and his codpiece?
Would that be ok to wear, as a lecturer?
What if a trans identifying woman wore it?

I mean it’s below waist level, so less eye catching.
I haven’t been able to attach the image, I’m sure someone can, and to be fair to Perry it’s much less obtrusive than this man’s plastic breasts.

Lady1576 · 26/04/2026 10:16

Haha yes. I can see where you‘ve got the idea I’m a trans woman from. I‘ve used that username a lot in the past as when I first started using the Internet, I was at uni in LADY Margaret Hall, Oxford. And they give out usernames like this. That gives you my rough age too :D

He loves wearing big boobs. It‘s weird. Oxford is full of weird people. It‘s a safe space for weird people. I fitted in there better than at school where I was very gently bullied for being a little bit awkward and having a too long skirt, a satchel and grey pull up socks. (no massive fake boobs I promise!). I just personally think, you folks might be going down a rabbit hole, when you are ‚stalking‘ people online because they are weird. But go for it I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

With respect, there is a vast difference between being awkward/geeky/too bright and looking odd (a category many of us would fit into) and co-opting unconsenting women and children in your sexual fetish. If this guy were the former (carrying satchel in to work, carefully lining up books) I would agree this is bullying - and frankly he’d fit right in in Oxford. It isn’t. This is something very very different and this man is getting an absolute blast from flaunting insanely large fake boobs in public.

That is why this is not bullying and why posters are saying you need better boundaries. The people to feel sorry for here are the women and children this man forces his fetish on.

SabrinaThwaite · 26/04/2026 13:51

“Saying no becomes right wing bigotry.”

And for some people, they get a sense of power and righteousness in making the allegations that anyone they don’t agree with must be ‘right wing’ or ‘bigots’.

To me, those people are as credible as the man yelling ‘stop murdering children’ and ‘stop killing us’ at a group of women having to be protected from that man and his supporters by police when women and girls are simply standing around chatting while getting ready to protest to have the government table guidance for law created and passed over a decade and a half ago.

I am sure those people feel ever so good making ridiculous allegations but all it does it show that they are not even bothering to get informed about who the women are who are raising the alarm and are perpetuating misogyny designed to silence women and girls.

MassiveWordSalad · 26/04/2026 13:32

Nope, people (men) need to leave their fetishises at home. Or take them out to a fetish club or similar where they can hang out with like-minded consenting people.

Nobody here is pointing and laughing. We’re aghast and horrified at yet another example of women’s boundaries being trampled over.

Helleofabore · 26/04/2026 13:32

@Lady1576

If you are doing research, I recommend you research the people who have been considered the founders of queer theory such as Foucault. And understand what motivated them.

Including the political influence that Foucault had on the people considered the intellectuals of France who successfully campaigned to have the age of consent lowered. If I find some of the French women and men who over the past ten years have recounted their child sex abuse that was allowed and perpetrated by the very men who declared that children were sexual beings too and took ‘lovers’ that were children, sometimes their intellectual friend’s children and were celebrated at the time.

This was considered progressive and was normalised. The mess that was the laws around sexual consent there also then impacted on the ability of women in France to get justice for rape. Even children.

All because people who raised the alarms about behaviour that should have been red flags for safeguarding children and women were denounced as not progressive and not understanding the theories of modern behaviour.

John Money is another man that has been influential. But there are others too. Read about just what behaviours they advocate as wanting normalised and then think about how those people have shaped the current thinking about that word ‘queer’. Normalising paraphilias where a man can wear large prosthetic breasts to work, or where men are led down the street with a dog collar and lead while they are wearing a dog mask, or men walking through an IKEA restaurant with dog tail butt plugs and a dog mask.

Here is an article about the Rainbow dildo adorned monkey child entertainment sponsored by a council.

https://www.spiked-online.com/2021/07/13/the-rainbow-dildo-butt-monkey-is-no-laughing-matter/

There is a reason these men have sought to normalised their paraphilic behaviours. It is not a bug, so to speak, it is a feature.

Understanding autogynephilia is hard when one group of male people with transgender identities don’t want it to be recognised because that would significantly weaken their claim to be female in anyway and another group of male people with transgender identities are very open about how they are aroused by not only thinking of themselves as being female (including sissy porn and to a degree transmaxxing), but who also are sexually aroused by other people treating them as if they are female. This latter point includes female people who are forced to do so due to policies and social pressure to do so.

The issue is all brought together though about power. Power to do what they want that transgresses other people’s personal boundaries around sexualised behaviour.

And doing so in plain sight of society and being celebrated for it.

The ‘rainbow dildo butt monkey’ is no laughing matter

A council's decision to allow an adult act to perform for children represents a tremendous moral failure.

Lady1576 · 26/04/2026 12:40

Ok - I see your point. That does help me understand where the anger is coming from.

You've obviously never heard of AGP.

These men not only cross boundaries to make people they encounter uncomfortable, it is the very uncomfortableness demonstrated by the women and girls that encounter him that are the feeling he is wanting in order to satisfy the need.

So for example, if there were female toilets that no women entered they wouldn't bother. It is the women and their uncomfortableness that they are after, not 'somewhere to pee'. Men after all, can pee in any corner of any road or by a hedge. It is why they go out of their way to use the 'ladies' rather than just use the mixed sex toilets right in front of them. It is knowing that the women and girls in the toilets and who know that they are in a confined space with a potential danger that is the point.

He's so bad for their cause, I could actually believe he was trolling them.

Short of this not actually being true (and I still hold out a glimmer of hope that it's an elaborate hoax for the weekend), the best scenario is that this person is taking inspiration from that Canadian teacher to see how far they can push the boundaries before HR/leadership step in to say something.

Although, as someone who is also very familiar with Oxford Uni, I would say they can push it a lot further before anyone steps in. Oxford HR seems to be fully onboard with this sort of thing across any of the Departments I've encountered.

‘But people wear all sorts of things at work’

i’m getting a bit old now. I’ve worked in a lot of offices. Far far too many honestly. Lots of different industries as well and I would say no, people don’t wear all sorts of things at work.
most places I have worked have an expectation of smartness, even if business casual. There is a minimum standard of formal dress. Even in industries where it is more casual, everyone still had to dress to a minimum standard. No one could turn up dressed for the beach. Even when I worked in an industry where there was a lot of gender non conformity and it was definitely a bit ‘out there’ at times, there’s no way on earth that this person would have been allowed to dress like that.

There's a reason men like this choose a university - or even schools as we saw with the Canadian boob fetish guy. There's a special thrill in targeting the young. Watching their unease and how they try to hide their repulsion while encouraging them to fawn and offer insincere adultation to prove they're not bigots or "pearl clutchers"

It's all part of a sustained attempt to erode the boundaries of what is acceptable in society. If you gaslight and groom children and young people to accept the unacceptable then they become open targets. Unable to say no to predatory behaviour as they've leant from allegedly responsible adults that there are no limits, there are no boundaries and anything goes.

Saying no becomes right wing bigotry. Along with safeguarding children.

I guess the OP forgot that real women have to ‘be kind’, otherwise we’re horrible bullies/bigots. But men don’t have to be kind, they can make the women around them feel mocked, belittled or uncomfortable.

Aside from that, I honestly cannot believe any man doing this is NOT looking for attention or trying to provoke a reaction. Unless he has prosthetic dysmorphia??

Dappy777 · 26/04/2026 13:04

The worst thing to happen since WW2 was the Left gaining control of the universities. They have attacked and undermined the literary canon, promoted dangerous loons like Foucault, and now we have nonsense like this.

Surely he wouldn't win, though?

Does he have a protected characteristic? Because that’s what he would argue, alongside academic freedom. And Oxford is so risk averse that they would never let it get to tribunal. So they won’t do anything. The students and other staff will suffer, and this man will get his thrills.

AEIOYOU · 26/04/2026 12:56

Overtheatlantic · 26/04/2026 11:39

Because they can’t do anything. What he probably wants is to be challenged and then to take the University to tribunal. It would blow up. If they let it play out he will hopefully lose interest or leave. He’s not on a permanent contract and he has no departmental connection. He will be making next to nothing as a college lecturer.

They are cowards if they think they can't do anything. Bringing the company/entity in to disrepute is written in to almost every contract.

@Catiette have tried to post the amalgamated image of Chu/Lavery/etc

Thank you. I saw. I'm following, so will probably hypocritically post again at some point having said I won't! I do think that image shows where so much of the distrust and anger comes from. Many people aren't even aware of this facet of the ideology. It's not what it ALL is - my goodness, what's going on is SO complex! But...

I think the readiness to assume the worst, and directness in calling it out here, is in direct (inverse? I always get confused over what that means!) proportion to the overall societal tendency to ignore it currently - as this tendency is astonishingly inconsistent with the approaches taken to protecting other groups besides women.

The anger that Lady's beginning to understand reflects that imbalance, and the stronger posts here are a desperate, infuriated attempt to redress it.

Presumably you'd object to a person wearing a t shirt with a racist or sexist slogan on it to work, or making sexist or racist comments under the claim they are "just banter"?

This is exactly the same.

It's a sexist statement aimed at women's bodies. It's not ok, and I am very sorry you value women so little that you can't see that.

Wearenotborg · 26/04/2026 12:44

Lady1576 · 26/04/2026 12:39

No I’m not ok with blackface. It‘s dehumanising a group of people, who when it was still acceptable were extremely oppressed at a very basic level. People here feel he is dehumanising women, because you feel that TRA are trying to do that. I suppose as it is quite a big statement and given the current climate between TRA and feminist activists against transwomen, he is almost definitely trying to wind up women like op. I don‘t personally feel dehumanised by him, but if I had more insight into the matter and his approach I might well do so.

Well yes, he dehumanising women. As a white male, he is mocking an oppressed group just as much as if he wore blackface. Why the extremely large breasts? Why not a normal size?
