I asked myself the doctor question, and it was revealing. I would feel uncomfortable and demeaned, I really would. But would I say something in that particular context? Honestly, even as someone very forthright about her rights, I'm not sure. As someone pointed out upthread, the mere fact of him sitting there indicates that the people running the practice (or college) - and presumably his colleagues (as they've either not complained, or their complaints haven't been taken further) - are OK with it. Good healthcare's increasingly hard to come by, it's my local practice and has been reliable through the yearsin ways others haven't, it's geographically convenient, and there's a Pride progress flag by the door (highly likely)and a poster recommending that "people" get checked for breast cancer (not unlikely).

I'd genuinely worry about being quietly blacklisted or receiving a compromised standard of care.

And that, friends (also just catching up on the essay reclining chairs thread!), is absolutely damning.

I can't help wondering if someone who doesn't know who 'the man who comes to your house to arrange the funeral', is, means it's never crossed their mind, because they're very young.

He's the funeral director as a pp pointed out. Not a friend of the family. A professional who arranges funerals.

If Oxford are so keen on the bring your true self to work, they should certainly display pictures of staff dressed in their true work attire. But no rush to stick up a publicity photo of this staff member it seems.

I'll answer it. On the assumption that if he was coming to the house because he was a friend of either my grandmother or the family I would assume he had positive qualities so strong that they outweighed his frankly bizarre form of dress. At the funeral itself I would expect to see the norks covered (as I would in a lecture hall tbh).

I think that in the interim the PP above was absolutely correct- this lecturer should have an up to date photo on the website making his “identity” plain for all to see. Students and their parents can then make their own decisions. Longer term Oxford University need to consider that most people will consider this unprofessional conduct whatever this person believes their identity to be. If they don’t act then we can infer how much they respect their female students and staff. If it was my DD going there I’d be considering deferment or transfer - ignoring gender identity this man’s behaviour is too close to an old men i once encountered who sat quietly on the train exposing his genitals to get a reaction from us girls and enjoy “euphoria”. The behaviour of this Oxford chap looks way too similar to that…Oxford Uni need to get a grip

There will be students who have accepted places at this college, for his subject area who will now be stressed about how to deal with the situation, should they take up their place.

The prospective students will be young, often international so away from home for the first time. The reputation of Oxford Uni was diminished previously due to the Student Union debacle, and lost funding, this will further impact it's reputation and funding.

Which alumni would associate themselves with the college?

Unfortunately the staff in key positions have been groomed by the groomers. Sadly part of the grooming playbook since forever - get the adults that are in a position of influence on board first. They'll create the policies and a top-down culture that professes to be about "kindness and respect" but, when looked at with a closer lens, it actually means active** use of opposite-sex pronouns and accommodation in opposite-sex spaces.

Far too many schools, colleges and universities seem to falling over themselves to accommodate people's gender identity as factually true. This would include staff who are allowed to enter students' toilets, changing rooms and residential accommodation.

I'll never understand why.

It would be useful to have it. Unfortunately a male claiming to be a woman suffering from an "intersex condition" is an excuse that will be used for a long time to come in the UK, I'm sure.

There will be lots of males whose sex with their employer is recorded as female e.g. because they have a GRC or because they used a passport as their ID on the application form, where their gender identity has been recorded as their sex. Given they will clearly look male, this will undoubtedly be an excuse that will be offered. No doubt with a sob story about how they've really struggled all their life because so many people think they are men.

I imagine the education sector would be an attractive place to work for anyone who fits this description. The Toronto twerp complicated the issue by claiming "she was born intersex and struggles with a medical condition called gigantomastia which has resulted in excessive growth of breast tissue", which seems, from photographic evidence to the contrary, to have been a straightforward, old-fashioned lie. There have been three hundred cases of gigantomastia in total. Ever.

Surely St Hilda’s or Oxford must have commented? Boundary setting seemed so innocuous a few years ago. It now feels like part of the whole Queer Ideology where boundary setting is a positive thing meaning I will do what I want, present how I want and you will be deemed a bigot if you do not like my boundary.

Tutorials are tiny, if he is a tutor then in will be him and one or two students, at most three. Imagine being a teenager stuck in a room with just him and those fake breasts. It’s beyond offensive to female students. Can’t imagine the male students finding it ok either.
