Trans people are more obsessed with JK Rowling then they think she is with them

FWIW I do know quite a few UK people who are weirdly obsessed with hating Trump, in the sense that they drag anti- Trump references and jokes into almost any conversation.

He's a disaster of a POTUS and definitely can be criticised but it more than that, like they are tieing their identity to the politics of a country they do not even live in far more than the politics of the actual home.

They're generally wildly incorrect about her views, misrepresenting them either deliberately or through ignorance in order to whip up more hatred against her. The amount of hatred the trans community and their allies have poured out on JKR is exponentially, astronomically more than she has ever directed at them; in fact I don't think she has ever said a hateful thing about trans people, unless you count her statement that transwomen are not women, which is a statement the majority of people would agree with.

Comparing people's critiques of Trump, an obviously wicked person, with the trans and allies relentless hatred towards JKR, a good person, is a textbook example of false equivalency.

What has she said that is offensive?
It would be helpful if people could actually quote something.

I think cause many of them loved HP and she seemed to have politics which would say she would be a trans ally. They are most mad at the women who they thought would be allies. And she also won't let herself be controlled, even a little.

She's basically become a lightning rod for their hate now, she's grown from a little boogeyman into some kind of legendary evil because of all their delusional whinging. I think the hate for her has just sort of has built on itself at this point. They hate her cause everyone does in their world, and that's what you do if you are "pro trans". It's like shorthand to say "i'm in the cult too, not a heretic like evil JKR"

It’s not really baffling.

She is a very powerful, very successful woman who is outspoken in her defence of women’s rights.

Not only that but she puts her considerable financial resources where her mouth is.

JK Rowling is far too rich to damage financially.

They can’t complain to her boss and she’s too successful to put pressure on her publishers or other business partners.

She’s so rich and powerful that threats of malicious prosecutions or reporting her to the police for her social media posts are ineffective. Not many people can wield legal representation with quite such an insouciant approach to the cost.

Being mean about her, and getting people she knows or is professionally associated with to be mean about her is really all they can do to hurt her.

All the usual tactics are ineffective.

And even their current tactics seem to be like water off a ducks back. However she feels privately she’s not giving any quarter publicly.

Not many people, let alone women, are in such an unassailable position. And even fewer have either her courage or wonderful way with words.

Yes! I've thought this for a long time.
And like I've said on here before too, they need her. Want attention? Say something about JKR. Got a flagging career? Mention JKR and catapult yourself right back into the media.
