Trans people are more obsessed with JK Rowling then they think she is with them

It's strange, isn't it? They really can't keep her name out of their mouths. Very baffling.

I am obsessed with her, not because I am trans but because she is my hero, and a pillar of bravery which I aspire to.

It is offensive. Transwomen are not biologically the same as CIS women, but they deserve respect and it damages nobody to refer to them as she/her. They do not deserve to be ridiculed by being called a man in a dress.

There are cases of men calling themselves trans and committing crimes against women. These men should be subject to the full force of the law and should, of course, go to a men’s prison. Using the existence of these men to cast shade on transgender women is very much not ok.

I believe that the language used by JKR and her deliberate misgendering “allow” other women to express anti- trans views and create a climate in which it is even more difficult to be trans.

How do you tell the difference between transwomen and men calling themselves trans?

Uses the word Terf and responds to reality denying loons on Twatter. Can someone let me know when she does something actually controversial?

@butterfly231 I think I’m with you on this one
I find JK Rowing marvellously witty, an inspiration for putting your money where your mouth it, she’s very articulate about important things and fights the good fight for asex being real and isn’t afraid of engaging with people online who have slightly different views
i will always enjoy the image of her with a cigar April 2025
But
Occasionally I think ‘you’re really not going to win hearts and minds or get any one change their way of thinking’
I suppose it’s whether she’s writing to persuade argue advise or describe GCSE style or if she’s having fun and revelling in being a hag

Yes funnily enough I think I’m very similar in regards to the arguing with people online thing 😂
I think she embraced the villain role like you said. But I’d love her to go back to questioning why we need her to do this work in the first place

StrangerTwings · 30/03/2026 18:04

WaffleParty · 30/03/2026 14:57

Well she has misgendered trans women and liked comments by others who have done the same or referred to trans women as men in dresses.
She talked about “throwing open the bathroom doors” to any man who said he was a woman. She is creating a false climate of fear. Trans women have been using those bathrooms for years and have gone unnoticed. You said ONE thing. I hope this will suffice.

That's not offensive though, just factual no?

To be fair JKR also benefits from their obsessive failed cancellation attempts that give free publicity to her stuff.

Look at the huge views for the HP trailer which they promoted.

I don't think that is true. All the HP franchise stuff is so wildly popular that it's going to generate a stir no matter what.

But as I said upthread, no one in the media reports anything JKR says on any other subject, they just over-amplify anything on this topic only. That's all they want of her.

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 17:54

Can I just be clear my actual postition is:

The word “TERF” originated in a hostile context and is now deeply controversial. JKR choosing to publicly embrace it was, in my view, an unwise strategic decision — not because her views are wrong, but because it’s a word that generates instant conflict and derails everything else. She has an enormous platform and could use it for countless things. Watching paint dry would be more productive than wading into that particular semantic swamp. If she were my friend I’d tell her that with love.

Please tell me how I’m tone policing?

They just can't help themselves, really. Almost compulsive urge to spread their nonsense around like a baby plays with its dinner.

Yes! I've thought this for a long time.
And like I've said on here before too, they need her. Want attention? Say something about JKR. Got a flagging career? Mention JKR and catapult yourself right back into the media.

To be fair JKR also benefits from their obsessive failed cancellation attempts that give free publicity to her stuff.

Yes, tone policing. That is what you're doing when you talk about not liking the way she conducts herself and saying what you expect her to do instead. The things you're saying about her are, incidentally, accusations you've made up when someone (JKR) disagrees with you.

You're allowed to say those things, if for whatever reason you feel the urge, but what you appear to have missed is that other people are allowed to respond to them.

She’s a public figure who has a huge following and impact. I can say what I don’t like about her behaviour and what I wish she’d do instead because of the impact i think it has. I’m not policing you. I don’t think she’s reading this but if she is, it’s coming from a place of love. The difference between me and you is I’m the one being attacked for actually just discussing why this is still going on after so long when it could have died a quiet death years ago?

Everybodys · 30/03/2026 17:43

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 17:33

Tone policing? I can say I wish she didn’t post shit she knows pisses people off. I can say as someone who’s looked up to her from being a very young child that she needs dumbledores advice - if you’re waiting for universal popularity, you’re never going to leave your house.
you can’t just make accusations when someone doesn’t agree with you.

Edited

She posts facts and witty retorts to stupid people. If people get pissed off at facts then that’s a them problem.

There is a middle ground available. You can dislike what she does whilst not presuming to tone police it.

Deeds not words.
Your tone policing is not welcome.

How have I toned policed you? I’ve spoken about my opinions on jk. that’s a bit of a stretch but I’d love to hear how you got there. You say what you want. I’ll say what I want. If you want tone policing, you’re actually coming across as immature and unable to cope with differing views. Not the best look. But you do you.

WaffleParty · 29/03/2026 18:24

Do you have to be obsessed with someone to argue that their views are offensive? I don’t think so.
Would you also suggest that anyone currently criticising Trump is obsessed with him?

Her views are not offensive though are they. They’re called facts. Fancy comparing the two 🤣

SockPlant · 30/03/2026 17:23

I defend jk passionately to anyone who will listen. It doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything she does.

Yup a lot of creatives are surprisingly. Even some of the people who worked on the original Doom were.
(I hope i didn't come across mean towards him in my comment he seems nice-havent met him but I've heard good things).

I have discovered (thanks to the BYU genealogy bods) that I am fairly closely related to Stevie Nicks.

Someone once gave me a solid piece of advice, if you like Stevie Nicks as an artist, don't subscribe to her social media, because she is so up herself that you'll lose any desire to listen to her music.

This doesn't exactly apply to JKR, because whether or not I agree with her on issue X, I can see where she's coming from and appreciate how she has arrived at her position.

Basically, my view on men being able so self-ID into women't spaces stands on its own feet and doesn't rely on JKR agreeing with it.

My original point was more "a lot of male creatives that have connection to things the trans community don't like-such as people financially supporting the LDS church which is harsh on lgbtq stuff- still are beloved by the trans community". It kinda got off track but that was my intent with the first post.

I agree, the blokes who have no truck with this nonsense don't get anything like the shit-storm women do, on the whole.

A few do - James Essus comes to mind - but by and large it's the women who bear the brunt of it.

Plus ça change etc

Yes it’s quite offensive to trans people. It makes them feel uncomfortable and like you don’t like them. It’s just like why even do it? You’re immediately announcing you don’t like someone else or believe the same thing as them. It might have meant something different in the beginning but now it means someone anti trans. Which in itself is controversial.
idk for a normal person not beloved by the lgbtia+ community probably not. For someone like her yes it’s controversial

It's the trans rights activists that turned TERF into a slur, along with violent threats and imagery.

If we take the label they call us and reclaim it for ourselves, how is that "offensive"? Terf Island is a badge of pride (oh the irony) now; we stood tall and defended women's rights despite the awful treatment we got for doing so.

SockPlant · 30/03/2026 17:12

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 17:08

I do. Why don’t you think I do? I’m really not a horrible person. I care about all living creatures on the planet

Introspection isn't your strong point, is it?
