It's strange, isn't it? They really can't keep her name out of their mouths. Very baffling.

so you agree with me then? You think historically those groups stick together and have aligned interests?

I think the groups that were historically aligned are not quite the groups that we see today, and I think those divisions will become increasingly clear.

When you say "trans people face discrimination", what do you mean exactly?

If you mean people who don't dress or behave according to gender norms can face harassment and violence then yes I agree with you and that is awful (ironically often driven by homophobic assumptions rather than a perception of "transness").

But if you mean that people do not want to be compelled to agree a man (in the original sex based sense) is a woman, or accept him in woman-only spaces, based on his belief his personality makes him female, then I think it is not unreasonable for women to want to reject having that type of sexism imposed onto us.

I mean the first thing. Thank you for explaining so eloquently

events and communities would disagree with you. Are you a member of this community? How can you say it’s not a group? They have interests, gay pride, communities, their own flags. They tend to stick together. Not all. But it’s commonly and widely accepted to everyone. I’m not arguing semantics with you. Trans people face discrimination. Anyone else who’s faced it feels uneasy targeting them instead of engaging with Jk. So her point gets lost. I don’t think it’s strategic

It is offensive. Transwomen are not biologically the same as CIS women, but they deserve respect and it damages nobody to refer to them as she/her. They do not deserve to be ridiculed by being called a man in a dress.

There are cases of men calling themselves trans and committing crimes against women. These men should be subject to the full force of the law and should, of course, go to a men’s prison. Using the existence of these men to cast shade on transgender women is very much not ok.

I believe that the language used by JKR and her deliberate misgendering “allow” other women to express anti- trans views and create a climate in which it is even more difficult to be trans.

And how are women supposed to know who are the ‘good, real’ trans women and which are men pretending to be trans? It’s so hard to tell.

If you look at the news recently, there have been several stories about trans women killing their partner, committing sexual assault, raping women… no wonder we women don’t want them in our loos.

I won’t engage with people who are disrespectful and insulting. I’m reporting you for personal attacks. There’s no need for it

No, still not seeing it.

Sexuality is who you fancy.

"Gender identity" is someone's own sexist ideas projected onto others and identified into.

I understand why historic prejudices about gay and lesbian people being "not quite" properly their sex created a cultural climate where gender non-conformity and homosexuality became associated with each other. I think the gender politics of drag as both a nonconformist gay protest performance and a conformist misogynist performance, from molly houses to drag race, is fascinating and underexplored.

However, I don't think any of that makes transness as it is currently constructed intrinsically relevant to gayness, in fact I think the historic gay connection is being used as a fig leaf over what actually owes far more to the Beaumont society's conception of trans than the historic performance of gender by some gay people.

so you agree with me then? You think historically those groups stick together and have aligned interests?

Lily wants to have long hair. That's fine, Lily was able to have long hair long before claiming to be a woman. Lily's Dad had long hair when it was the fashion for men, before most people had heard of Queer Theory or Gender Identity. Lily can continue to use the toilets he used when he first grew his hair long. Most other men will ignore the dress and oversized glasses, they just want to "piss in peace".

Lily will never be a woman, as changing sex is impossible. Lily knows no more about womanhood than any other sensitive man.

Lily is almost certainly autistic and has never fitted in; Lily has found a group of people who will say "how wonderful" as long as Lily fits in with behaviour and presentation deemed acceptable for transwomen. If Lily desists from trans identification, Lily will no longer be seen as wonderful.

Right but my argument isn’t about this: it’s about what jkr achieves by attacking people like Lily when most people know someone like this and love them deeply.
talk about that. Talk about why there needs to be more studies in mental health and trans youths. Look at studies about retransiitioning. share about sexism and pathologised trauma responses and peer influence and how it impacts everyone. But don’t go and bait tras who aren’t actually helping anyone and benefit off your platform.
Because then you see how this takes attention off Jkr’s cause (protecting women and girls) and instead gives more airtime to an issue which isn’t serving that?

sexuality is self identified and so it is accepted in these communities that you do the same with your pronouns and gender.
come on this isn’t hard? Rainbow flags usually mean trans friendly.

Well she has misgendered trans women and liked comments by others who have done the same or referred to trans women as men in dresses.
She talked about “throwing open the bathroom doors” to any man who said he was a woman. She is creating a false climate of fear. Trans women have been using those bathrooms for years and have gone unnoticed. You said ONE thing. I hope this will suffice.

Oooh, she misgendered trans women?! Lock her up and throw away the key!!

these trans women wouldn’t happen to be criminals who have raped or attached women, would they? Or ones who insist on using women’s spaces?

What she says isn’t a patch on what TRAs say to her: doxxing her, rape threats, murder threats, threatening to piss on her and choke her with their lady dick. I hope you’re just as disapproving of them

SionnachRuadh · 30/03/2026 22:18

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 22:13

Because I don’t need to because I don’t think this. That’s some very strange projection right there. Are you ok?

Well, there's one of us who believes that men can enter women's spaces, for whatever purpose, just because they say they don't want to be men, and it's not me.

but I know a Lily. Lily just wants to have long hair, go about her business quietly, piss in peace and make friends with similar interests. Lily looks for the rainbow flag as a sign of acceptance when she uses toilets.
lily is more common than Dave. Most people know a lily. They don’t know a Dave. That’s why this is controversial

Why does Lily need to piss in the ladies simply because she has long hair?

What about the rainbow flag made you think Lily was looking for the kind of toilets you’d be in?!

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 22:07

FlirtsWithRhinos · 30/03/2026 22:05

No, it's a collection of letters.

If you want to make a case those letters represent genuine human minorities you'll have to base it on first principles.

Explain to me how trans women differ from any other men?

(Incidentally, I prefer "marginalised" to minority. It is more accurate and meaningful. Women (original sex based meaning) for example are not a minority but I do not think anyone could look at historic and indeed current concentration of economic, political and cultural power in male hands vs female and not conclude women are marginalised relative to men).

Say hello to Dave. Dave is 50. Dave is a heterosexual man who has been cross-dressing for masturbatory purposes since he was 13.

Dave has decided that he wants to live out his fetish full time. He's started coming into work in a leather mini and fishnets, and wants to use the women's toilets.

Nobody has ever explained to me why Dave should be under the same "umbrella" as lesbians and gay men who really just want to be treated the same as their straight counterparts.
