It's strange, isn't it? They really can't keep her name out of their mouths. Very baffling.

Look I love jk. You need to be cool with offending people to be an activist. But she’s pissing off the wrong people. Go and troll Putin. That I would watch

No, she is pissing off the right people, the people who badly need to be pissed off.

The world has more than enough people going on about Epstein, child abuse, Putin, whatever whataboutery you want to throw in because you just don't want this topic discussed by anyone.

Called herself a terf. Why even engage with that language? Why even give them an excuse?

I don't agree with ourselves using the terf label (though I call myself merf - male exclusionary, that's more accurate). Though some feminists have adopted the reclaimed the label to remove the slurs and pain, much like African Americans have with the n word.

Womens rights have always pissed people off. Imagine where we'd be if the suffragettes gave up.

Can you just do one long respisne instead of these mini replies I can’t keep track of?

This is victim-blaming. They bait her. Not the other way around. They tweet her abuse, and she has the right to call them out. If they left her alone she would have nothing to say. You're basically saying she should sit there and take the abuse, death threats and rape threats. You're basically attacking the victim who punched his bully back, after the bully punched them first.

Males are NOT a 'minority' group. They are 50% of the population, and are the oppressor sex class. Putting 1% of males in a dress instead of a suit and tie doesn't make those males a vulnerable minority. This is insulting.

lol omg I’m really not. Jk is intelligent and has other options (including criminal charges) instead of social media shade.
please can you learn what these terms mean before you throw them around on Mumsnet. I just can’t seriously engage with you otherwise

ThatBlackCat · 31/03/2026 01:37

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 16:38

I’d like her to talk about lots of things instead of doing controversial stuff she knows pisses lots of people off. I just think she’s better than that. Like I respect her like I said and I think on the whole she’s wonderful but she annoys me.

I try but I don’t have her platform. I repost Epstein voices all the time. I advocate to people I know. I work in this area and so much work is needed but people don’t have her platform or litigation fund to say what needs to be said.
she doesn’t have to. I’m just saying what I wish she would do and why she annoys me. She baits them, they use it to gain more attention for a cause that deflects from the real issue and makes her look worse. I don’t think it’s funny or clever to go after a minority group when there’s the majority group that need people like her going after them more.
but that’s my opinion. You don’t have to agree with me

So anything, anything BUT speak on this era's most important issue? It's desperate whataboutery. Speak on this, speak on that. But NEVER speak on the one issue I don't want you to speak on. Sorry but it's obvious that you're desperate to silence her on this issue, you're really transparent. This is that one issue (and all the other issues have spokespeople 24/7) that desperately calls for a spokesperson. Yet you are desperate to starve the topic of oxygen and debate. At least be honest about your motives and objectives.

I’m really sorry I can’t take you seriously.
jkr doesn’t hate trans people. She’s never said that. She’s got carried away beefing with people who did vile things to her and no one remembers her original child and women safeguarding points, which were extremely important and needed to be said.
i think there are better ways to get people onside than beefing with tras for 5-6 years until moderate people are too frightened to go near the subject, yes. If that’s silencing her or redirecting her you tell me

ThatBlackCat · 31/03/2026 01:29

SockPlant · 30/03/2026 16:30

Why should she? Do you?

Very good question. Most of these people obsessed with whataboutery who want Rolling to discuss anything, anything but this issue that desperately needs a spokesperson, never do so themselves. They don't care about the issues they raised. Their sole goal is to stop Rowling from talking about the one issue they are desperate to quash discussion. It's so disingenuous.

Well it’s also group with lived social experiences of male violence, who frequently fear it as much as women do. There are a few bad apples like in every group yes. but I feel by focusing on them jk is isolating a lot of people who would be very sympathetic to her cause.
ill check the book rec thank you! I’m very interested in power and how perceptions are more important than the truth when it comes to influence.

I disagree with you. But I suspect that we will have to agree to disagree on this.

'Live not by lies' is only a short essay; however, Solzhenitsyn did also write 'The Gulag Archipelago', which is probably his most well-known work.

A pattern in trans people who are very active on social media is that they all have very obsessive thoughts. That has lead me to believe that having a predisposition obsessive thoughts might be something that leads someone to being transgender.

I think this is very close to the mark. The determination with which some trans-identified people or self-declared allies project their own spluttering hate on to JKR when she has never actually expressed anything of that nature in public is not rational behaviour.

I know parents of trans identified adolescents (and had a trans identified adult female relative who has now quietly desisted) who have managed to navigate supporting their child without losing their minds, so for those who have thrown themselves fully behind "JKR hates trans people, TERFS want to kill trans people" I can only assume that this is a reflection of something that lies within.

so for those who have thrown themselves fully behind "JKR hates trans people, TERFS want to kill trans people" I can only assume that this is a reflection of something that lies within.

It most certainly is. They are obsessed with telling people, particularly women and feminists to 'go kill yourself'. It's their standard attack. They go about at rallies with placards saying decapitate terfs, pictures of gallows and guillotines, stab terfs, 'the only good terf is a dead terf', the placard of JK burning in flames...
This is basically a death cult. They are obsessed with death and violence. When they are saying terfs want to kill trans people, they are reflecting what lies in their heart; they want to call feminists. That's the truth of it.

Amplify Epstein voices? Redirect to other issues? Ignore the haters? Raise dv awareness so that when a woman discloses she is believed? Idk anything but baiting tras?

Well she has misgendered trans women and liked comments by others who have done the same or referred to trans women as men in dresses.
She talked about “throwing open the bathroom doors” to any man who said he was a woman. She is creating a false climate of fear. Trans women have been using those bathrooms for years and have gone unnoticed. You said ONE thing. I hope this will suffice.

Nope. That she correctly-sexed men is not a crime. Unless you think women should be gaslit to deny our lived experience as the oppressed sex class and be used to cosplay with our oppressors. Would you try to gaslight and guilt African Americans to call Rachel Dolezal, a snow white woman who browns her skin and puts on an afro wig, a black woman? No oppressor gets the right to culturally appropriate an oppressed group's oppression. Asking women to mis-sex men is fempobic, misogynistic, and dangerous.

She talked about “throwing open the bathroom doors” to any man who said he was a woman.

Correct. If you let in any man who self-IDs as a woman, you let in ALL MEN. No exceptions.

Trans women have been using those bathrooms for years and have gone unnoticed.

Wrong! Firstly, these hulking males always stand out. They never pass unnoticed. On the occasions they entered, we were allowed to call the police and have them removing and charged with Voyeurism and/or Indecent Exposure.
Secondly, your argument that 'well, men have always broken the law anyway, so let them keep doing it', is NOT an argument you want to run with, believe me!

So. You have not provided even one actual 'transphobic' thing she has said.
So try again.

I specified 'men that identify as trans'. I did not mention women who identify as trans (I know they exist - I was just focusing on the male people in my post). No, not everyone is brave like her. I agree that her money gave her the safety net that allowed her to stand up and speak the truth (that human beings cannot change sex). She has made that point herself - she knew that she and her family would be OK, even if the 'cancellation' was total. She knew that she was in a unique position and, therefore, able to speak up where others couldn't.

I think Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is the more appropriate reference. Specifically, 'Live not by lies'.

a very small minority. It’s like using terrorists to make Islamaphobic comments. That’s why people find this so controversial and difficult

You've already said the problem is men who rape women...

A huge amount of women don't want men in female only spaces in part because a very small minority of men would use the opportunity, if allowed unfettered access, to harm women, perve on women, rape women, wank in the women's spaces and kill women. Women don't know which men are the dangerous perverts, rapists and murders so in a woman only space no men are allowed

Men who say they are women, no matter how safe some may be, still pose the same risk as any other man so they all have to stay out because there is no way of knowing which of the men claiming to be women are the safe ones and which are the dangerous perverts, rapists and murders.

If the men who wish they were women don't like being lumped in with the rest of their half of the human race then tough. They can go sort it out with the men and work out some way for women to be able to know which men are safe, which men are dangerous, which men are just pretending to be women just to get in women's spaces and which men pretending to be women are doing it for some other reason but pose no risk to us.

Until then the problem of men who rape women will encompass ALL men including ALL the men who don't want to be men.

They are all men.

As I said, she's not a coward.

It's mad times when telling the truth that all men that identify as trans - whether they are genuine in their belief or not, whether they are lovely or not - are male and therefore men.

The cowed 'moderates' must grow a spine and stand up for reality.

As I said, I know IRL full-on allies. There are only two positions - agree with them 100% or you are evil.

I honestly don't think that what you are suggesting would have worked at all.

All dystopian totalitarians need to deal with the people who disagree. Cracking down on the tiniest sign of dissent is common. That's why it has to be 100% agreement. 99% isn't good enough.

No they’re not. Whatever way you choose to classify them, some trans people are men and some are women. It’s not exclusive to one gender.
not everyone can be brave like her. She has the money to take these risks. Most people do not. Work with what you have and be pragmatic - more Machiavelli if you’re interested

I rather love that JKR has very loudly stood up for all women's rights, against MRAs draping themselves in the trans flag. The tiny minority of trans people who have actual enduring gender dysphoria (what used to be called transsexuals) have been really, really badly served by a campaign be MRAs to lump in with them the many male fetishists (and vulnerably children have been abused by the modern tendency to see puberty trauma as enduring gender dysphoria, which it really isn't). JKR clearly cares passionately about women's rights, and child safeguarding, and has put her money and her reputation where her mouth is.

But yes, MRAs pretending to care about minorities to tend to hate rich, high profile, articulate, self-made women.

Are you taking the piss? I know really deep in queer theory/intersectional feminist/trans allies, and that would never have happened. As soon as she made it clear that she was not going to pretend that people can change sex, it was never going to happen.

If she’d gone down the ‘not in our name’ route, said bad men were taking advantage of trans protections, asked them how they would prevent this etc I think she might have gotten a better response. Sports no probably not but but the moderates would have stuck with her

It’s really not a contest. I would have been more likely to get a Britney or spice girls reference. Just for next time 😜

What contest? A bad taste in music contest. I might be able to win that. Could be close though.

You're worried about pissing off male rapists?

No tras who would have defended her. Trans people face male violence just like women do.

spannasaurus · 31/03/2026 00:21

So you'd rather men be in womens prisons rather than appearing mean.

No absolutely not. But if she’d been a bit more like ‘I want stringent checks like an airport to protect vulnerable women’ instead of beefing with tras on her social media i think people would have been screaming her name in support.
