The IOC is making an announcement today. Here is the Youtube link for the live stream.

15.15 UK time. Let's hope it is the speculated announcement that they have decided to exclude any male person who has undergone androgenisation at puberty.

This is being reported on on the PM programme on Radio 4. They don't approve and the overall message is that it's all too complicated with the solution being all too simplistic for there to be a ban.

It's amazing how when things are going well for the gender woowoo crowd everything's so simple you bigot, no debate, la la la I can't hear you. Yet when things aren't going so well all of a sudden it all becomes complex and nuanced and we ned to talk about it like adults. The hypocrisy and double standards are rife.

Stop this whataboutery there are only 2 sexes. and they are XX & XY

I was answering a PP who asked why the test would eliminate almost but not all male athletes from competing in the female category.

This is because the test used does not test for the presence of the Y chromosome directly, but rather for the presence of the SRY gene which is almost always carried on the Y chromosome.

However there are certain rare DSDs which may result in either a false negative or a false positive.

For the avoidance of doubt I am completely in favour of testing and preventing males from competing in female sport.

ThatCyanCat · 26/03/2026 20:47

Gay people required nothing from anyone else and simply wanted the same rights as everyone else. Someone being gay has absolutely no effect on anyone else. Gay people didn't even require that no spaces remain that don't cater for them; religious communities remain that do not recognise same sex marriage and there has never been a significant issue with this. They just wanted the same rights to marry in civil law and to be able to form spaces that accepted this.

TRAs want people with trans identities to have additional rights that others don't have and which infringe on the rights of others, making it impossible for women to claim their rights to have safe spaces and fair sports. They want it to be illegal for women and girls to have their own toilets, changing spaces, rape crisis centres, sports or medical and personal care if any man refuses permission. They want the whole of society to change to reflect their self image, denying reality and the rights of half the population - all the population, really, given that men have a right to single sex spaces too. They do not want to allow any spaces that do not uphold their belief that men can be women, even though this is a lie. They would knock out gay rights too by denying homosexuality even exists, given that they say men can be lesbians and gay people shouldn't be allowed spaces for solely same sex attracted people.

There is no comparison.

it could in theory eliminate 46,XX individuals with a non-functional translocated SRY gene.

It also won’t eliminate 46,XY individuals who don’t have the SRY gene (one form of Swyer syndrome).

Wow. Comments on the thread in r/Olympics are heartening! Most are in agreement. A few of the usual utterly insane witterings about how awful it is but the majority of comments are supportive.

r/transgenderUK had a huge thread on it, but the title had 'biological male' in the title without quotes, so it got deleted. 🤣

2021x · 26/03/2026 20:37

For me the central tension over this has boiled down to whether someones identity supercedes reality. In my understanding the changes in society over the 20/21st century with womens rights, gay rights and civil rights in the US pushed back at identity politics i.e. someones view of another person and grounded the law in reality.

I was critical of the Self-ID laws because there was no real discussion on how that would affect womens safety in public spaces, but I think a majority of the population lost sympathy at the Transwomen are women message and the inclusion of Laurel Hubbard at the Olympics.

The TG community have been embolded by the gay (men) community but have failed to understand that the messaging is different to gay rights. Gay people campaigned "to be who they truly are" where as Trans people actually want to be different to who they are.

It’s a bit scary to realise that I have a view in common with Trump; I NEVER thought that I’d be saying that 🙈

I also agree with him on paper straws. Worryingly, that’s two things.

PoshCoffee · 26/03/2026 20:32

Huge thanks needs to go to Nic Williams from Fair Play for Women for being at the forefront of the demands for fair sport for women and having the steel ovaries to go to the IOC meeting despite an incredibly hostile environment.
Also thanks must go to all the individual women who wrote endless letters to their sports federation complaining about their trans inclusive policies. We’ve still a long way to go, especially in recreational sport but I do believe this will be the end of the madness in professional/elite sport.

Mylovelygreendress · 26/03/2026 20:05

Just as an aside . Are there many women pretending to be men demanding access to women’s bathrooms , sports etc or is it just men pretending to be women who cause the problem?

DuchessofReality · 26/03/2026 20:02

Someone has edited Lynsey Sharpe’s Wikipedia page with ‘true bronze medal winner at the Rio 2016 Olympics’

i feel so sorry for her. Not only did she miss out on a medal, to a casual listener on this topic at the time (me) the media spin on what she said was very much ‘she is a racist and implying that black women have significant advantage’.

GriseldaandMike · 26/03/2026 17:56

The boxers aren't TiM, they are men with DSDs.

They are biologically male, but identifying as women, which one could argue also makes them trans. This is a complex matter, but even though they have DSDs, they are male and they know it.

edited for clarity

FernandoSor · 26/03/2026 19:10

MyThreeWords · 26/03/2026 15:41

Why does the BBC article say that "The ban will also cover almost all athletes with a DSD"? Don't they mean that it will cover almost all male athletes with a DSD? Or are there DSD disorders in women that might make them ineligible for the women's category?

Is this wording another case of women simply being forgotten about???

Edited

Just read the IOC statement claiming that no TIM took part in the Paris games.

Conveniently forgetting two boxers and the Paris Paralympics and the fragrant Valentina Petrillo.

Yeah. But Viques, the boxers aren’t transgender for the sake of sport inclusion, they were included due to their DSDs.

I expect that the Paralympics was considered a different games.

I don’t agree with any male people being included, of course, but I am imagining what the IOC would say.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/03/2026 18:31

I think the boxing at the last Olympics was the final straw. To give a male a gold medal for hitting a female was indefensible. They couldn’t “be kind” their way out of that one.

Emma Hilton and Ross Tucker deserve thanks along with Nic Williams.

Usually if she’s on the tv I change the channel or mute it. Bloody shits me. She’s always so fucking earnest and oh so politically correct and on the side of whatever the current fad is. Fitzsimmons is a wanker. Him and his stupid try-hard pirate bandanna.

Yes, I saw the reporter from The Australian. She was about two questions after Holmes for anyone looking for it. Damn good question. It should be retroactive and the DSD men’s names and medals removed and re-awarded to the rightful winning women. I think it’s a massive shame that the IOC isn’t doing that.

And with that crankiness I really should be asleep. It’s 4am and the temperature is the equivalent of 27C. Autumn needs to hurry the fuck up and make an appearance in my area.

yes Fitzsimmons and his bandanna. I guess he can’t give up his signature apparel or people might not recognise him.

I do remember Holmes from the late 90s.

Excellent news. Congratulations must go to Dr Nic Williams from Fair Play for Women, for instigating and steering the fight back for so many years, along with Sharron Davies and Martina Navratilova.

He's got the perfect swimmer's body (being a man means he gets a wingspan, hand and foot size and hip arrangement that beats any woman; the fastest swimmer's body is a male one, quelle surprise), therefore men can be women.

They basically argue that because top athletes are built well for their sport, it's no different to a man having a man's build in a women's competition. Don't talk to them about the overwhelming advantage of a male build in terms of haemoglobin levels, bone density, fast twitch muscle, body fat percentage, Q angle and all the rest of it. Don't talk to them about how without protected female categories there would be no female champions. Don't talk to them about how elite women still only beat much, much lower ranking men. Michael Phelps has flipper sized hands and feet, therefore women can have knobs and men should be allowed in women's competitions but they still need to be called women's competitions.

I'm done with the stupid.

It's crazy. Would they call disabled athletes bigots for not wanting to compete against able-bodied ones, because... Michael Phelps exists? It makes no sense.

Oh well, they'll just have to get over it.

The good news is that it will be very difficult for them to reverse this new policy without attracting a lot of scrutiny. They won't be able to just quietly allow males back into the female category.

yes. I suspect it is marketing, sadly.

Like Mulvaney and Sanpro.

The CAIS thing will have to be watched like a hawk. I wouldn't be surprised to see a two-stage process with stage 1 being SRY determination and, should it then be necessary, stage 2 being self-declaration of CAIS.

HPFA · 26/03/2026 18:11

The most stupid argument coming out now is that it will mean "athletes finding out they have DSDs"

As if ignorance about a condition affecting your body is a good thing!

MyAmpleSheep · 26/03/2026 18:10

Szygy · 26/03/2026 18:05

Lin Yu Ting is thought to have CAIS, eh? Interesting. When LYT was about to go to the Olympics, an Instagram post (still there) showed all the items about to be packed in his luggage, including 'daily tampons'.

Genevieve Gluck also picked up on this:

Lin was also made an official representative for a company that sells sanitary pads for women. Every Day Mask produced a video featuring Lin in August 2024.
The feminine hygiene company captioned the advertisement with references to Lin being a “girl,” saying: “When magic tries to distort the facts, direct all doubtful eyes on her. We’ll tell the world, Lin Yuting is our spokesperson. A spokesperson for a sanitary tampon brand, as a girl. She will not only endorse our products but more – she will endorse our belief in girls. Because we believe every girl has the right to live in the most comfortable way as she likes. No need to explain to anyone, let alone prove to anyone. In our eyes, that is the most girlish you.”

Funny that someone with CAIS would need sanpro…..

She might not need to use it. It could be just marketing.

MarieDeGournay · 26/03/2026 18:09

Not only is the decision very welcome, but it's a great opportunity to put the scientific facts and figures in the public domain, coming not from 'the usual suspects' i.e. us GCers, but an international sporting organisation. Harder to dismiss.
