Pondering whether I went to the same school as @murasaki had a PE teacher with that name, was a girls school which shared a site with a boys school...

I was in a gym class yesterday and the PT accidentally touched a woman's bum as he was reaching for something and he leapt back and said something about we should look at his wedding ring, he's very happily married and we shouldn't worry, we were safe with him. As if the only reason men rape and abuse women was because they aren't happily married? Genuinely hadn't occurred to him to think otherwise.

Possibly just horrified and panic babbling anything to try make it better (and failing hard, as is often the way)

I find the fact that adult men have 160% the punch power of women quite a useful statistic in this kind of chat (also had with my DH). How he'd feel walking home late at night after pub closing with a load of men with 160% his punch power some of whom might be drunk / looking for confrontation.

They just need to stop and think about it for a bit. Yes, they get attacked by other men (statistically speaking) but it's (statistically speaking) a much fairer fight with a greater chance of getting away and / or fighting the attacker off. Men are also faster runners (statistically speaking).

Being a women is a bit like being a man walking home with a load of other blokes all of whom except the one man have knives, who are all much stronger and faster. It's that kind of power differential.

I like the male prison thought experiment too.

Edited

Re the stats on men v women as victims of male violence, I'd like to see these further broken down.

I don't want to diminish the tragedy of losing a son to gang violence, but being attacked because you have joined a gang and are participating in gang behaviour is very different to being attacked because you are simply existing and the attacker sees you, knows you are weaker and/or knows you are rapeable.

Yes, in Edgbaston?!

Yes! My mum went there, as did I and my two sisters, and one niece is there now!

murasaki · 10/07/2026 14:33

There are a lot more clubs joint with KES now with one over arching head, and enrichment stuff etc, but the lessons themselves are still separate and all the better for it. Niece is doing cadets, for example which wasn't available to us.

Keeptoiletssafe · 10/07/2026 14:52

Shout out to the strong women of Edgbaston!

My mum went to the 60th anniversary of her year leaving last year, apparently a great day and about 40 went, which was lovely! A load of nearly 80 year olds having a grand day, and about 20 went out for dinner afterwards. My dad had to pour her into the car afterwards.

95 for me so we crossed over.

Heh! Funnily enough, I am going to a school reunion tomorrow. I will have to get up at the crack of dawn (for me) to drive to Peterborough, some 160 miles away. i have been talked into it by a mate, but I'm not very keen. But then another voice on my shoulder said, put your best foot forward, show your face to the world...

I've already decided I will be wearing my Terf Nation tee-shirt.

I'm in no way claiming to understand all that but:

  1. In summary the Claimants should be refused permission on the following basis: 9.1. Limitation: the Claimants’ claim is brought years out of time.

and

Further, to the extent Sophie and James are concerned about Sophie being affected in future by a case-by-case decision, that concern is premature

so you're simultaneously too late and too early?

MyAmpleSheep · 27/07/2026 19:39

That’s a real “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” defence!

The claim is out of time, the father is an unsuitable litigation friend and has not been candid, case-by-case is lawful, but even case-by-case is not the school’s final word, the school absolutely engages in full consideration of absolutely everyone’s human rights (honest guv, we do, and you should absolutely believe us because we say we do), and children should be allowed to sleep in bedrooms with their “trusted” friends of the opposite sex while on school trips.

I’m sure I missed a few things but those stand out.

Keeptoiletssafe · 27/07/2026 19:56

That’s so much waffle. The toilet waffle is particularly wrong. I have lots of evidence to show harm.

Schools were told by Ofsted that there is so much sexual abuse that goes on that they must assume it’s happening. Therefore any reasonable person would be doing everything to safeguard against it.

Ah, so Prof Phoenix knows nuffink? Case closed then.

Poor OP, most likely unable to comment.

I don't know if this is old news, but GLP posted a heavily redacted version of the defence:

https://goodlawproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Summary-Grounds-of-Defence-of-the-First-Defendant-REDACTED-3.pdf

This was very much news to me... thank you.

I was very pleased to have her onside, not mentioned it until now but if GLP are saying it, fuck it :D

Also the GLP have redacted the entire paragraph about why I am such a terrible fuck bag, which is even more of a shame as I am sure it would have produced some angry emails in their direction. Basically amounts to "He doesn't even believe a woman can have a penis!! The Biggot!"

My guess is it'll be the same stuff the school were threatening to throw at you when you were talking about standing as a parent governor. Did they ever admit to where they got that from, by the way?

ThreeWordHarpy · 28/07/2026 09:15

um, paragraph 39. Are GLP using a precedent where they themselves lost a case as evidence supporting their case here?

i also like very much Prof Phoenixs quote in para 73.3. I see nothing in it which makes her an unsuitable expert witness!

BezMills · 28/07/2026 10:08

You have to admire GLP's boundless ability enrich themselves whilst being completely useless at their profession Unfortunately in this case it's costing the education budget to fund this circus and effects children's welfare.
