I have complained to the BBC. They do not make it clear until para 4 that he is a man.

I would very much like to read the sentencing remarks to understand why.

Yes, I was just thinking that too. It actually makes him even more sinister, if that were possible. Those poor children.

Was he being a transwoman when he did the raping, or has he just found his vocation as ‘Serenity’ more recently I wonder?

It's in Scotland, and according to this article it seems he could end up in a women's prison.

For Women Scotland campaigners want to ensure that only biological women are held in women’s prisons. But they believe that guidance allows transgender women there.

Both the Times and the BBC avoid using pronouns for this man, but I was a bit surprised that Rhona Hotchkiss (quoted in the Times) uses female pronouns for him.

It's also good to see the BBC being totally clear about his sex:

Horrifying. Really hope he is going to a male prison, as he sounds like he would still be a danger to vulnerable women.
