Paedophile man who says he is a woman gets a light sentence and could end up in a women's prison.

I actually find the BBC article honest for once. The headline is "Trans rapist who 'robbed' girls of innocence jailed for nine years," rather than "Woman rapist...", and though the first sentence says "Transgender woman", this could be confusing to the uninitiated. Until we can erase "transgender woman" and "transwoman" from the language in favour of something that centres "man" this will continue to be the case.

As for the sentencing, yes too low.

Maybe he just identifies as 34.

Why do these men get such ridiculously short sentences?

I would be most surprised if Rhona Hotchkiss had referred to this disgusting man as 'she', I wonder if she's been misquoted in that Times article.

@Cvn That's mind-boggling. I get that these men will be exceptionally manipulative but you'd think most women would draw a clear line a that. But these men are manipulative and that's part of what makes them so dangerous.

You'd be surprised. In my line of work Ive encountered 3 women in the past month who are knowingly in relationships with men who abuse children. In one case the relationship started after the man was released from prison for abusing his own daughter. They're all changed men now though, so I guess that's ok then.

I suspect the short sentence is due to his age. This happened from when he was 14 to 20.
I wonder if they have reason to think he hasn’t offended since?

I had a debate with a Trabswoman on Crossdressers Wives on Reddit some time ago that I think helps answer this question.

I specifically asked why so many CD's dress in clothes that are generally attributed to female porn stars and strippers. His answer was basically along the lines of that if, as a make, you want to dress as female/feminine as possible, these are the types of clothes most men would wear- ie hypersexual.

I can only assume this is why they choose stripper names- because they see being a woman as no more than a sexualised body that exists for the male gaze.

I have seen an article about this this morning. One of the comments on the post was from a transwoman who describes the perpetrator as “him”. Surely this is a brave “she” who is who she says she is! Funny how they’re not claiming “Serenity” as genuine trans…

Poor David and his troubled childhood. I suppose the judge would also abdicate responsibility from whatever horrendous crimes of violence and abuse his multiple victims can now go on to perpetrate in the future free of any person responsibility for their actions. As long as their family support them, who can complain?

I agree that the sentence is offensively lenient.

Yeah, me too. Says his sentence was given because it was his first offence, but that’s three lots of offences with three victims right there!!!

Also, his lawyer said that ‘Johnston takes medication for anxiety and panic attacks. Johnston is in a relationship with a woman and has the support of family members.’ Mitigating factors.

Bollocks to that! Who would be in a relationship with a child rapist?? And why would his family support him? Foul. He deserves a longer sentence.

BUT there is no she in this article. The same article probably even only 6 months ago would definitely had said she. That’s what I mean by baby steps.

Maybe by next year it will be clearer for everyone not just those that are aware.

I’m dubious about all articles from the BBC dealing with sex crimes as you can’t guarantee they are telling the truth. So this one caught my eye. If you know what I mean?

That’s an appalling statement from the defence. Utterly disgusting. I was bullied a lot, it never occurred to me to commit heinous crimes and claim the bullies made me do it.

But then, I’m not a rapist who refuses to acknowledge my crimes.

I think you mean the following para?? "[The advocate] said Johnston had been subjected to serious bullying during his life."

@TrendingTerror those who are not as alert to these things as you and me could be misled. His sex is fundamental to the story, so why not just say he's a man, and use 'he'?
I'm not annoyed at you, I just expected the BBC to write accurately.

Well funnily enough I was thinking almost the opposite. I think this must be the first time the BBC hasn’t called a TiM she! In fact the only pronoun is Defence advocate Jonathan Crowe told Lord Mulholland his client
