Sandie Peggie: what an incredible woman!

Had to share this interview with Sandie Peggie in today's Telegraph. What a woman!

All power to her appeal, and the thousands of women who are supporting it.

But what I don't get is why haven't the NHS got their act together? The law is clear, why aren't they protecting women?

No she shouldn't have. Agreed.

But what one of us could withstand the scrutiny of seven years of text messages? I'm sure they'd find something problematic for everyone of us if they looked hard enough.

Bear in mind the comments were in no way relevant to the case in hand, they were used to smear her more generally.

Lindsay's own WA weren't whiter than white if I recall correctly. Wasnt she discussing confidential patient information?

Yes, she admitted discussing a patient, and their 'condition' in the WhatsApp chat, but such is the skewed sense of what's right and what's wrong at NHS Fife, that seems to have passed-by a disciplinary by either NHS Fife or the NMC. Breaching patient confidentiality is a no-no for nurses or any healthcare professionals.........just not in Fife apparently where it's fine as long as you're giving evidence on their behalf at a Tribunal. Have they gone lightly on her because she gave evidence against Sandie at the Tribunal? If so, it's just another sense of shoddy behaviour and process at NHS Fife.

I also remember the reference to the payout. Someone was clearly pushing her buttons.

'Pushing her buttons ' -that just further exposes their greed.

I agree that it's fairly easy to refrain from mocking the deaths of children in a flood, but it is also a fact that you have shared exactly the same 'jokes' much more widely than Sandie Peggie did. What your motives were for quoting them in full in a forum open to everyone on the Internet, I don't know. She shared them in a small closed group of friends. What her motives were for doing that, I don't know. It could have been that she was expressing incredulity that someone wrote such things. Maybe she gained some satisfaction from being edgy or controversial. Maybe she finds 'dark humour' funny; I confess that I have found at least one unpleasant joke about people's deaths funny (though at least it wasn't racist, so I can smugly claim that I'm better than anyone who laughed at the flood jokes).

What is obvious is that any racism doesn't prevent her from sympathising with Jennifer Melle.

Quite. I think that was a pretty crass thing for @Carla786 to do, but maybe she just didn't consider the feelings of anyone on this thread who might read those 'jokes' and be deeply, personally upset by them.

I think she said she needed to look it up, didn't she?

Yes, what I meant was that pp's post implied that was due to class. I don't think that's necessarily true.

The stronger point, which I agree with, is that Peggie is entitled to a dignified single sex space whatever else she says or does. No ifs, no buts

Agree with this. I think shes a bit of an arsehole but that doesn’t make her case any less valid (or brave).

What does one take as a gift to JK’s birthday party though??

Agree on all of that.

I'd love to know what to take...🤣

Carla786 · 10/03/2026 20:53

Are working-class people unlikely to know what words like 'bigot' mean? I think that's a bit of an unwarranted assumption: vocabulary knowledge isn't necessarily dependent on class.
I agree with the wider point that it showed the fact that working class people are less likely to buy into stuff like TWAW and then face unfair accusations.

What a strong woman. The article underlines the extent to which this has turned Sandie Peggie's life upside down and around. Nevertheless, she persisted.

Also, that class element again to all this - the small, vocal, privileged group forcing their ideology on everyone else and most people can't afford to stand up to it. Sandie and her family had to look up what 'bigot' meant.

Let she who is without sin cast the first stone.

I don't think that logic always fits: by that logic we wouldn't be able to criticise 'Dr' Upton's behaviour either, since no-one is without sin.
When Jesus said that, he meant that the woman shouldn't be stoned. He still told her to stop committing adultery, that sentence wasn't a call to withhold moral judgement entirely.

The stronger point, which I agree with, is that Peggie is entitled to a dignified single sex space whatever else she says or does. No ifs, no buts.

Hmm...well I think it's fairly easy to refrain from mocking the deaths of children in a flood. I'm sure most of us would have some criticiseable comment on our phones, but I think mocking deaths, including kids' deaths,,crosses a pretty big line.

The point is not the individual example though. The point is that every one of us would have something that could be used to attack us, if that's the purpose.

However unsavory Sandi's views, they were not relevant to her job performance (which is more than you can say for Lindsay).

Definitely: this case is no different from a case where someone experiences sexual harassment, or any other kind of discrimination/privacy invasion. Their character/opinions etc are irrelevant to their right not to have their space invaded by biological men.

BezMills · 10/03/2026 19:25

I thought it was a great interview and in stark contrast to fabricating serious career ending patient care allegations, she wished Dr Upton had been treated better by their employer.

Igmum · 10/03/2026 18:22

It’s possible that Sandie is a racist. I don’t know. But even if she is she is still entitled to single sex spaces at work. And she is still incredibly courageous to see her life fall apart and still stand firm for single sex spaces. I might or might not like her if I met her, but I am so grateful to her for what she has done in standing up to the gender Borg.

I agree totally though that the messages were irrelevant to the case. All women deserve single sex spaces and it sets a dangerous precedent that only 'good' women should have their right to one respected.

I didn't know that about Lindsay but sounds likely. If she did that should be investigated.

Sandie shouldn't have made the racist jokes though, about flood victims no less. Lindsay didn't force her to make them.

I agree that Lindsay's actions are themselves very disturbing though : why did she want to derail this case to protect women's spaces?

Ss pps suggest, probably greed...

Men don't have the same level of emotional intelligence and empathy that women have. So many years have taught me this, I try to think, maybe some do, but even my DH, my lovely dad and my bil, they just don't and can be a bit dense (naïve is maybe the better word) with certain things, once I explain it they kind of have an "ohhhhh" moment but they'd never make that sort of leap themselves. For example, my dad telling me years ago confidently that if I wanted to lose weight but didn't want the gym fees I should just run in the woods and canal paths behind my house after work or before work (as I was complaining about lack of opportunity for fitness plus lack of cash). Uh huh dad, the place where that female runner was murdered in Glasgow during the day in BROAD DAYLIGHT and where there have been multiple rapes/sexual assaults and attacks over the years. It just never occured to him that this wouldn't be a safe option for me, or any woman. It just doesn't occur to men. So empathy about sexual assault etc really needs to be hammered home, even to the 'decent' men before they understand. I've not had experience of any 'getting it' on their own merit.

So Dr Upton who is clearly doing a skin walk of his wife (looking at the outside court pictures, same hair style, make up, parka jacket, even the same type of scarf style and the earrings) only has in his head a fantasy version of what he thinks womanhood is. Not the cold, brutal reality. If he had that, maybe he would have empathised with Sandie, but sadly the fact he felt emboldened to use the changing rooms in the first place demonstrates that Sandie was talking to a brick wall.

Edited

Excellent post.

I think some men can have great empathy but generally the average man scores lower than the average woman- and that's a big part of these problems.

There's a special place in hell for backstabbing rotters like Lindsay.

She trawled 7 years of chat to find a way to accuse Sandie of being racist and weaponised her daughter's being a lesbian to call her a homophobe.

What an absolute rotter

Sandie shouldn't have made the racist jokes though, about flood victims no less. Lindsay didn't force her to make them.

Wasn't she the one caught making sick racist jokes?

She does have a horrible sense of humour judging by these gems she posted to the WhatsApp group :

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/politics/scottish-politics/5297419/sandie-peggie-nhs-fife-flood-victims-racist-posts/

'1 – Rumour has it that the floods in Pakistan were started by a suicide plumber.

2 – There’s a new curry been brought out in aid of the Pakistani flood disaster victims. It’s a chicken bury auntie, served with a nan dead and poppa gone.

3 – The BNP have donated 6,000 crocodiles to the Pakistani flood appeal.

4 – The Queen has sent a letter of condolence to the Pakistani president. She wanted to mention that Britain has plenty of spare p*kis if they want some back.

5 – I bet little Mohammed isn’t having to walk 3 miles fetch water now! I think I’ll ask for my 1 a month donation back.

6 – What do you call a Pakistani flood survivor…Mustaf a dinghy.

7 – What goes around comes around. Pakistanis have been flooding Britain for years.

8 – From space Pakistan looks like a giant bowl of coco pops.

9 – There is a new diet sweeping Pakistan. It’s called swim fast.

10 – Charity single just released for the Pakistani flood disaster…Rain keeps falling on Ahmed.'

But you , ChristinaApple, no doubt think thus discredits Peggie's cause . It doesn't. Women's rights are human rights, and human rights are to protect everyone, including unpleasant people.

Karma has caught up with Lindsey as Sandie mentioned in another interview that while she is still going on holidays with the Benidrom WhatsApp crew that Lindsey is not.

TheKeatingFive · 10/03/2026 09:01

I also remember the reference to the payout. Someone was clearly pushing her buttons.

BezMills · 10/03/2026 09:00

I don't think she said it in court but it was reported she'd said words to the effect of "that wee idiot getting a huge payout" by maybe one of the other witnesses, is my recollection

CanISeeYourLicence · 10/03/2026 08:54

I honestly can't recall if I am right on that though- i was on the threads but not witnessing the tribunal online.

INeedAPensieve · 10/03/2026 08:52

CanISeeYourLicence · 10/03/2026 08:47

I may be misremembering but when she was pressed in court didn't she snap that she was pissed off that Sandie would be getting a big payout and that's what motivated her?

God if that's true that's even worse. What a betrayal. I can't imagine how awful that made Sandie feel that a friend she'd been on holidays with would do that to her. The ultimate definition of a back stabber.
