“Heated Rivalry” author Rachel Reid on J. K. Rowling - “the bar is pretty high in how evil you have to be,” “ I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes”

Well, this is disappointing.

”[Reid] has a keen desire not to disappoint her fans, especially when they’re sending her photos of freshly inked tattoos of her words on their skin. ‘I know of another author that a lot of people got tattoos of but then wanted them gone. Like, J. K. Rowling,’ she says. ‘The bar is pretty high for how evil you have to be, but I don’t want to let a single person down.’ I ask if she’s a TERF. ‘No, I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes,’ she replies.”

Well, too late, she let me down. “Extremely the opposite of everything she believes,” huh? I guess Rachel Reid thinks teenage girls should be forced to undress after PE in front of naked male classmates who gawp as their dicks get hard. Or that female inmates should be locked in cells with male inmates serving time for serial rape.

I don’t expect Reid to agree with Rowling on trans issues. It’s the monstering of Rowling that I take issue with - the “evil,” and the framing of Rowling as so extreme that Reid feels the need to be extremely the opposite of everything she believes.

Edit: title should read “on how evil you have to be”

Believing it does not make it true

I agree with that!

Males are responsible for the conduct of other males. You have admitted you are a male.

Trans people are not responsible for the conduct of men. Sex realist beliefs do not change this.

callmeLoretta1 · 27/02/2026 18:35

Yes, because transwomen are more dangerous than other males. Sex denialist belief doesn't change this.

Sex realist beliefs constructed the math behind this belief and perpetuate its spread. Not one of the departments or government entities are assisting sex realists in this messaging.

Socially, trans people and non-binary people exist. Closing your eyes does not make people disappear.

Gender non conforming people exist.

Their sex is never in question

That’s your belief, the rest of us outside here have a much wider understanding of experiences than you.

"I know you are but what am I?"

You're being deliberately obtuse.

I didn’t realise I was being obtuse at all, let alone deliberately! You said these biological experiences of non-menstruation (through pregnancy, menopause etc) would have no impact on daily interactions in shops, public transport or workplaces?

onepostwonder · 27/02/2026 18:52

callmeLoretta1 · 27/02/2026 18:33

So you admit you are male. Wonders never cease.

I'm saying the sex realist belief that biology is destiny has never had influence on my life as a female or male. Obtuse.

The only people who have the ability to become pregnant is the female sex. 'non-binary' doesn't exist. 'Trans men' are women and female.

No trans person 'changes sex' full stop. And NONE of them claim to.

Except gay people weren't removing rights of women.

Sex Denialism is a tool of conservative men and Mens Rights Movement.

Sex realists align all trans people with mens rights movements. Believing it does not make it true.

Men are biological males. A sex, not a 'social construct'. HTH

Understood. Sex realists do not participate in cultures influenced by social constructs.

It is not a bad law to keep males out of female spaces. It was enforced easily for a century before the last 15 years. There is no safe and beneficial way to include males in female only safe intimate single sex spaces. And if you were actually a woman, you'd know this.

Agreed. It is not bad law to keep men out of women's spaces. It was enforced and continues to be enforced. Trans people are men, women and in some countries outnumbering binary trans people, both or neither.

Chinsupmeloves · 27/02/2026 18:40

Pathetic, immature and plain nasty.

Sex descrimination is social. It is gender-based. It is class focused. Discrimination is not based on the knowledge of one person's gametes by another, it is focused at people grouped by the presumption of sex.

Edited

Wrong. Sex discrimination is SEX-based. It is not 'gender' based.

thirdfiddle · 27/02/2026 18:36

I would hope that people I interact with on a day to day basis would not treat me differently because of my sex at all. If they do they're probably being sexist. It's not something to aspire to, it's something to discourage. And if it has significant effect on me it's illegal discrimination.

A TW who is mistaken for a woman is also protected under discrimination by perception rules. Or in the more common case that they're not mistaken for women may also be affected by discrimination on basis of gender reassignment which they're also protected for.

The only circumstances you would need to be treated differently is things like single sex spaces or sports which are justified on the basis of allowed sex discrimination under the EA. Confirmed by the SC that sex refers to biological sex.

Men as a class are very unlike trans women as a class. Sex realist belief doesn't change this.

I've never had to consider the impact of pregnancy as a male, either. Biological children were just never going to be a thing in my life.

So you admit you are male. Wonders never cease.

callmeLoretta1 · 27/02/2026 18:31

onepostwonder · 27/02/2026 16:47

That's not what they wrote though.

I would answer your suggestion for humans, some women, some trans men and some non-binary people could get pregnant but not every woman, trans man or non-binary person.

The only people who have the ability to become pregnant is the female sex. 'non-binary' doesn't exist. 'Trans men' are women and female.

No trans person changes sex to watch people undress. That belief is just as silly as the belief that trans people change sex to take competitive advantage in sport.

The exact same words and phrasings were invented by race realists and homophobes who hated people of colour and gay and lesbian people. The evil people were forcing their beliefs on the normal people.

Sex realism is a tool of conservative men.

No trans person 'changes sex' full stop. And NONE of them claim to.

Bad law cannot be enforced. There is no safe and beneficial (to anyone) way to enforce the SC judgement.

It is not a bad law to keep males out of female spaces. It was enforced easily for a century before the last 15 years. There is no safe and beneficial way to include males in female only safe intimate single sex spaces. And if you were actually a woman, you'd know this.

Catabogus · 27/02/2026 18:18

Yes, fully agree! And it doesn’t mean, for example, that white people with a tan can start self-defining as BAME because they might be mistaken for a member of an ethnic minority from a distance, at night, by someone short-sighted.

The world does not begin and end based on sex realist beliefs. The rest of us out here apparently experience a much wider understanding of interaction.

Your isolation and mocking of trans people does not support women. You are servants of men.

That's your belief. But you are wrong. Isolating males from females supports women. You are a man in service to men.

Pregnancy massively influences interpersonal interaction in public transport, shops and the workplace. All sorts of people come up and start giving unsolicited advice like “you shouldn’t be drinking Coca Cola - think of the baby!” and either offering you a seat on the tube or studiously avoiding your eye in case they have to give you a seat. Colleagues make jokes about “baby brain”.

Menopause also influences these interactions, especially with unexpected flooding and public embarrassment and the need for a decent (single sex!) loo urgently. Also suddenly becoming somewhat invisible to men in public (this one is a mixed blessing). Oh and colleagues making the odd unnecessary joke when you insist on opening the office window.

Did you really think these things don’t influence women’s social interactions?!

You're being deliberately obtuse.
