“Heated Rivalry” author Rachel Reid on J. K. Rowling - “the bar is pretty high in how evil you have to be,” “ I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes”

Well, this is disappointing.

”[Reid] has a keen desire not to disappoint her fans, especially when they’re sending her photos of freshly inked tattoos of her words on their skin. ‘I know of another author that a lot of people got tattoos of but then wanted them gone. Like, J. K. Rowling,’ she says. ‘The bar is pretty high for how evil you have to be, but I don’t want to let a single person down.’ I ask if she’s a TERF. ‘No, I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes,’ she replies.”

Well, too late, she let me down. “Extremely the opposite of everything she believes,” huh? I guess Rachel Reid thinks teenage girls should be forced to undress after PE in front of naked male classmates who gawp as their dicks get hard. Or that female inmates should be locked in cells with male inmates serving time for serial rape.

I don’t expect Reid to agree with Rowling on trans issues. It’s the monstering of Rowling that I take issue with - the “evil,” and the framing of Rowling as so extreme that Reid feels the need to be extremely the opposite of everything she believes.

Edit: title should read “on how evil you have to be”

Can anyone explain

... manufacturing public consent to their country becoming an economic basket case.....

Because that one's definitely got me stumped.

Something about being responsible for the situation in the Middle East I think.

I’ll add it to the list. Was there not a thread ‘everything that JKR is responsible for?’.

TheKeatingFive · 24/02/2026 08:43

Interesting. How, I wonder?

By only amplifying women’s voices that seek to change the current Iran regime, it seems. And not amplifying enough voices from other countries with human rights I justices.

I think the idea is if she doesn’t campaign for everyone she should just STFU. Same sentiment different thread, different poster names.

And I think that she is being held responsible if Iran ends up having a civil war. For a handful of tweets only one of which was originated by her, the rest were replies to other’s tweets and reposted tweets.

Coatsoff42 · 24/02/2026 08:48

Who is evil if they talk about Iran?

a) everyone except @Aisha176
b) all women
c) all white women
d) just JK Rowling

it is a confusing world.

She is a symbol for western imperialism, I think. And is helping the far right???

Interesting. How, I wonder?

I must’ve completely missed where you’ve explained how and why she is considered evil. Probably because you’ve said absolutely nothing that explains how she is evil. Well nothing that makes any sense.

I’m confused.

No men are allowed in a single sex space for women. There is no test to establish whether they are more or less representative of men. That is the point.

I am confused by the statement too.

It is surprising though that we have moved now from some posters defending abusive men’s actions over their victim. We are now onto the tantrums of ‘she doesn’t campaign for what I expect an author of fiction books to campaign for’!

It does seem that you have a deep prejudice about her.

The premise of the thread is why JKR is considered evil. I'm simply explaining why. That you 'forget' this is indicative of your own bias not mine.

And what exactly has amplifying women's voices in Iran to westerners on twitter achieved? Their freedom? Exactly the opposite: manufacturing public consent to their country becoming an economic basket case like Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan via military intervention that only serves to further enslave women.

Outcomes matter & she's smart enough to know exactly where this is going. Shame on her!

Yep. You are doing a great job.

We understand that you expect her to be someone who campaigns only for the issues you feel are permitted. Anything outside of that, you feel ever so righteously justified for demonising her.

You consider her, a writer and not an elective member of parliament, to be a universal cause campaigner and to follow your personal standards of ethics.

‘Don’t listen to women’s voices’

Talk about evil.

It's amazing how many folk have been tripping over each other in their rush to condemn JKR over the past few years...but then what's not to like when you can use her fame to bolster your profile and virtue signal at the same time.

It's a win-win for the unimaginative and the tedious.

Yes, and it’s especially tedious when it’s, what, four or five years after people started jumping on the “JKR is evil” bandwagon.

So not only very unimaginative and clearly desperate to gain points with the alphabet brigade but also very very very slow-wittedly late to the party.

Errr… this doesn’t make sense. Is anyone claiming that male people with transgender identities are ‘representative of all’ male people? No.

You lie & you know it because its been clearly expressed on this thread & on this forum repeatedly.

What are the ‘fruits of her actions’ ?

Seriously? She is amplifying women’s voices when there was no media outlet doing it.

It does seem that you have a deep prejudice about her. On one hand you demonise her for not doing enough for political interests of your own, and on the other hand you demonise her for having personal political interests at all.

You also demand that she adhere to standards that media agencies aren’t expected to making disclaimers on articles that some hard of thinking person might take as contributing to negative stereotypes about groups.

I think this post of yours though puts it all into perspective.

Where have posters said that the actions of male people with transgender identities ‘represent ALL male people’?

Have you got this confused with the claims that the behaviour of male people with transgender identities fit within the range of behaviour of all male people? Because that is an accurate statement. They are male people so their behaviour are within the range of behaviours for all male people.

She’s a middle aged woman, married to a man, cosplaying at gay identity because it makes the big money right now.

Well I've not read her, and going by this thread I don't seem to have missed out on anything. Trashy homo porn for hetro's, really not my thing, but if there's a band wagon to jump on it does seem like a smart business move to jump on it.

If anyone is getting a hard on it’s you, over JKR.

Not sure why you think she owe’s you an opinion on Gaza, Iran, who’s going to win an Oscar or if pineapple belongs on pizza.

Because apparently she is public property and should act in ways only acceptable to posters like Aisha (and Gretel on other threads - it is almost like Groundhog Day with very similar arguments)

”Irrelevant to the point that lesbians are not representative of all women as trans women are not representative of all men.”

Errr… this doesn’t make sense. Is anyone claiming that male people with transgender identities are ‘representative of all’ male people? No. We are saying they are part of that general group of male people so should not be treated differently.

Which was the point that I was making that women with the sexual orientation of same sex attraction are not treated as a separate group for the purposes of safeguarding. I was also pointing out that your comparison of domestic violence by women who are same sex attracted has multiple flaws and doesn’t work the way you attempted to claim it did.

Again, what are the fruits of her actions? Where is she going with this?

War & regime change.

If she was in the slightest concerned about journalistic censorship you may have heard a whisper from her about the systemic murder of a multitude of journalists in Gaza where no independent media has been allowed to report on the ground.

The facts are JKR's 'concerns' & more importantly outcomes align with western imperialism.

She is weaponising women's rights just like the far right do in their sudden interest in women's sports as means to end of their white supremacy.

What are the ‘fruits of her actions’ ?
