Scatchard, originally from Scotland, was previously jailed in 1986 after drugging and attempting to kidnap a woman he knew. He ran her over with his car, and when police searched it, they reported finding a body bag inside.

Have now re-read article and in fact the first day of the trial has been delayed, so should start tomorrow.

So maybe no issue about reporting.

I am adding this but with a caution as I dont want to inadvertently jeopardise the trial.

US media is reporting that the trial is now underway. At least assuming this is the same case, but hate to think there could be another drug facilitate mass rape.

I know from the early reports they were anxious to preserve the anonymity of the wife.

I think the rise of unmoderated social media, easy access to anonymous chat forums, plus Pornhub, has normalised a lot of this behaviour. They know they are likely to get away with it; if they get caught, they will not be charged, and even if they are charged and sentenced, they might still get little or no jail time.

I wish we could bring back social shame. For example, broadcasting to everyone on their contact book their crime, after they had been convicted.

It's an odd court report that doesn't name the defendants.

If they name the husband, they identify his wife and if the husband isn't named the other men could argue it would be unfair for them to be named.
Not saying it's right, but in the Pelicot case don't forget it was Giselle who took the brave decision to go public.
