Thanks @MarieDeGournay . When you look at design, the unisex designs have all been tried before and failed before.
Unisex toilets don’t work. Accessible ones are needed and have to be in place so should be our most looked after, but the disadvantages they suffer are the same as the unisex ones. They cost councils so much money only for them to be removed.
This makes me laugh for the sheer awfulness and relatability of that poor woman with people on the bus looking at her….

You could just have single sex toilets within a single sex environment.
This is not just better for reasons of - what did Judge Swift call it? the provision of private space for each sex for reasons of conventional decency. [35]
and the health and safety issues you highlight so well.

Single sex provision is also simpler and more resilient - the fewer 'moving parts' in a system, the better.

I'm a huge fan of simplicity and resilience, [aka Keeptoiletssimple😄]
and 'simple and resilient' also often means cheaper - cheaper to install, and cheaper to run. This should appeal to an educational system in a country which is not exactly overflowing with resources for the likes of putting alarm systems in every school.

I'm not saying that infinite amounts of money can't or won't be found if it's at the noisy and sometimes violent behest of the tiny trans community, but I do believe in pointing out the economic cost of all these fourth spaces and unpopular mixed sex spaces and alarms to attempt to make them safe.. all for such a small % of the population.

Apologies, I was referring to the SEND white paper on Monday, not the EHRC guidance. I guess both on the same day could be a ripping off the plaster strategy. I think the SEND paper is going to generate a lot of noise that won’t go away. I think the interest in the EHRC guidance is easier to bury/ marginalise

Exactly. It’s not within the gift of ministers or parliament to change EHRC statutory guidance.

I think she originally said further information from the EHRC and the EHRC said they had provided all of the information needed to support the guidance. She is now saying that thanks to the change of leadership at the EHRC the problems are resolved or resolving. The EHRC, under new leadership, are standing by the guidance, so she has run out of road in terms of delay - but seems to be using the Trump playbook and just doing whatever she pleases.

I am expecting the release to be on Monday. I think the leaks are coming from the briefings the would be happening in preparation for this

What makes her refusal to lay the guidance before parliament so unforgivable is that she KNOWS that businesses and services across the country are using this delay as an excuse not to implement the law RIGHT NOW as they should. Deliberately putting women and girls at risk and putting those stubborn businesses and services at risk of legal action too.
There's really no excuse.

I voted Other because the way things are going not just in the UK but elsewhere anything could happen.

So may Other is that a combination of Stamer making yet another legal bungle, another Government U turn, in fighting in the Labour Party leads to a vote of not confidence in the HoC and then a General Election.

Then a Reform Conservatice Combo (or rather a re-merging of the Conservative Party) gets into power.

And Kemi Badenoch displaced by one of the many men thinking they would be a good leader is offered the consolation prize of becoming Minister for Women. But only for long enough to put right the Labour Party how long can we string this out tactics. Because the EA will be withdrawn and all of this discussion about women will no longer be relevant as there will be no EA as a point of reference.

Wow. That shows that they absolutely know what is going on in those loos. Schools sacrificing children to service an adult belief system that the vast majority of the public don't even subscribe to.

I voted Never, she sat on it for 10 months, I see no reason why she wouldn't sit on it for 10 years, the only reason she hasn't officially bin it is because there's no process that would allow her to do that.

I thought that they could provide women and transwomen option but only if they had provided a women only facility and men could sue for indirect discrimination but it would depend on the facts. Not providing a women only space is not an option.

Completely agree. There’s the massive cost of subscription and maintaining them. UK schools say particularly at exams times they turn the alarms off as they are so disruptive. @Igmum Yes there’s some reports that pupils avoid. They worry it’s a visual sensor too.

Simpler design is better which doesn’t rely on technology to try and fix the disadvantages of private enclosed cubicle design.

If I could add one more type of provision it would be accessible toilets within single sex provision. I have found that the benefits of single sex provision are so great that people needing accessible toilets could have healthier and safer provision too.

There will always be a need for mixed sex accessible but other mixed sex cubicles and rooms should be reduced as much as possible. They are always private by design and legislation. Unfortunately that’s where a lot of people and me differ.

I voted Never, meaning she will cover her shame by sending it back for amendment, then crow about how pragmatically it's all been sorted out, now we've got rid of that witch Falkner.

Possible amendments:

If a service provider provides facilities for the exclusive use of woman and transwomen only, men could sue for direct sex-discrimination, but the outcome will be fact-dependent: seek legal advice.

If a service provider fails to provide facilities for the exclusive use of woman only, women could sue for indirect sex-discrimination, but the outcome will be fact-dependent: seek legal advice.

Alternatively children would simply avoid the monitored toilets like the plague.

Is there a time limit at the end of which BP must take action on the guidance? If there is, that would be my guess, otherwise never.
