Mass Shooting in Tumbler Ridge Canada

Looks like it was a man in a dress. Another tragedy. More lives lost. Boys with violent tendencies cannot be told they are actually girls. The violent background of trans activism is a problem.

BREAKING

The identity of the Tumbler Ridge shooter can now be confirmed as Jesse “Jess” Strang.

Strang is a biological male who started to “identify” as a "girl" around 2023.

Strang was raised in a family that valued hunting, and began learning how to shoot rifles when he was just a child. Many guns were kept in the family's residence.

Facebook posts from his mother indicate he may have struggled with behavioral issues, including violent tendencies, from a very young age.

Strang fatally shot 10 people prior to taking his own life.

In 2021, Strang launched a YouTube channel that was promoted by his mother on her Facebook. The channel was dedicated to "hunting, self-reliance, guns" and his other interests. At some point, Strang deleted the content on the channel and changed his handle from "Jesse Boy" to "JessJessUwU." The only remaining post on the channel was made 6 months ago and reads "I've been pretty, um, aimless."

I think most Canadians would disagree with that.

I not even Canadian and I disagree with that, a bonkers thing to say or a wind up.

The shooting is a tragedy, but the reporting of it with reference to the shooter is and insult to everyone's intelligence This is how destructive this ideology is, even something as simple as reporting a tragedy has become impossible.

It may well be that this young man displayed signs of being unbalanced that should have been an indicator that he may well do harm to himself and others but they were missed or ignored because those who may have been in a position to help him put it all down to him being gender confused and thought all they had to do was confirm it and all would be well. This is how destructive this ideology is.

why mention the dress

Would they have known him as "female"? Given that he was 17 and had only started "identifying as female" in 2023.

The secondary school only had about 180 pupils. I am assuming that the boy attended the school so yes, everyone would have known who he was whether or not he was wearing a dress.

Yes but anyone on SM now knows that the shooter was not a woman.

For a major news outlet to be this far behind on reporting the facts makes them somewhat ridiculous and redundant.

Social media is a complete binfire, replete with AI-generated misinformation. It is incumbent on the BBC to get the facts straight before reporting. This event is, what, twelve hours old at this point? Let people get the facts straight for the record FFS

It's a life-style choice, like many things lumped together as the 'mental health' excuse.

I strongly disagree

i do believe it’s a mental health problem caused by a reaction to gender enforcing society which makes you feel that something is wrong with you

the response- isn’t one they create in isolation but is sold to them as a solution - which it can never be

and I think this because I have experienced gender dysmorphia. Having that is not a lifestyle choice. Being yourself and not fitting gender norms isn’t a lifestyle choice.

You do have a very high opinion of the press. Many a time a male perpetrator has been reported as being a woman when it has been well established it was a man. Actual facts withheld in favour of fantasy.

The police still haven't released anything about the identity. It's nothing to do with the press.

I think it's really disrespectful to the victims to still be pushing gender ideology when enough is known now about it being a male shooter.

Why does his self identity matter, but the respect for the entirely innocent victims to speak the truth is not important? It's warped, sick and evil. And the BBC is doing it.

If they knew it wasn't a crocodile that had ravaged a zookeeper but increasingly reports indicated a lion they wouldn't continue with the 'reports say a crocodile...' etc.

They could be entirely neutral and just say there was a shooting, the murderer also killed themself and the identity of the shooter is not yet known.

The fact is, they're prioritising the obviously wrong initial info 'female in a dress' rather than choosing to respect the victims. It's biased, it's a lie and it's cruel to the victims IMO to be prioritising the killers self-identity in this way.

I agree. And equally the fact the shooter was likely trans doesn’t change the harm which would be the same whether they were trans or not, but it affects the risk - if trans people are more likely to be shooters, we need to use that to safeguard and find out why. The priority shouldn’t be the feelings of some mentally ill individuals who see it as their ‘right’ to be perceived as female.

BunnyLake · 11/02/2026 13:09

Blaming a woman for the shootings is outrageous!

Their guidelines on accuracy do slightly affect (but don’t prevent) using unverified reports. They have to be attributed and contextualised and they have to justify their use. So if they were later found to be untrue, and contributed to some kind of defamatory case, they could be at legal risk.

I don’t disagree, it definitely slows them down. I suppose my personal feeling is that I want to trust substantiated facts, so I’m glad there are processes to corroborate information.

We have seen time and time again on here the BBC not reporting accurately on topics re gender identity. We even mass complained in the Darlington nurse case and they changed their wording.

I'm sorry but I do not believe that this is in any way to do with 'accuracy'. It's them dragging their feet to see how they can badge it.

In those cases, I’d assume their reporting is affected by their definitions of female and male, which differ from how many of us see gender. They should now be in line with the latest clarifications about legal sex, so I’d hope the cases you’re referring to are pre the Supreme Court clarifications.

No mention of the alert message.

It’s not the gender we want to know is it!

Likeothers as soon as I heard the description I guessed it was a TIM.

it is a crisis that being transgender is not treated as the mental health problem it undeniably is.

It's a life-style choice, like many things lumped together as the 'mental health' excuse.

RaininSummer · 11/02/2026 13:02

Why did they go out of their way to state it was a female in a dress if the person was obviously not female? FFS.

HolyGround13 · 11/02/2026 13:02

BettyBooper · 11/02/2026 12:58

There would be nothing to stop them saying 'unverfied reports suggest that this description is misleading ' or similar.

Again, if they are so hamstrung in reporting the facts, they become redundant.

I think they just have to be at a higher standard of reporting than social media- so they need the shooter’s gender and name to be verified in a way that other accounts don’t.

One of the weird effects of the odd use of language is just how easy it is to spot for anyone paying attention and just how rage inducing that itself is.

It's not just outrage and horror at the actual event but also a sense of total betrayal and complicity by the authorities that comes across.

The theme that runs through this is loss of trust. That's a theme across politics generally anyway.

My point being this loss of trust in institutions is compounded by this sense. And actually harms transpeople way more than just reporting 'someone who identifies as trans' has done x, y or z because people associate the issues over trust AS WELL AS the actual crime so it becomes a double whammy of outrage.

It's bonkers. Telling the truth would remove this sense of being actively lied to. It's a massive political own goal which is unforced. It would be easy to avoid.

It does in society. Many Canadians identify with Americans, they have the exact same culture and societal values of freedom, patriotism and entitlement to bear arms. They pledge allegiance to the American flag, they celebrate the 4th of July. Even if legally they separated from America or are not part of America yet, in my eyes they are one and the same.

This has got to be a wind up?

Either that or someone's been hitting the kool aid pretty hard. 😂
