I’m totally non-binary, if non-binary means having short hair, wearing trousers and flat shoes and having short nails.

But it doesn’t. The binary is XX or XY.

I really hope Olivia’s husband is taking the absolute piss out of her for this behind closed doors. I’d be having so much fun.

I find neither's take particularly insightful here but maybe because we have said similar things for what feels like for ever. It all just seems so obvious, people have a sex and a personality and that's it.

Exactly. I’m considerably more “gender non-binary” than most NB-IDing people I’ve met or know of. I just don’t deny being a woman because I don’t fit a sexist stereotype - most people don’t.

There are loads of normal activities that are not gendered and are “non-binary” activities. Reading, gardening, getting a takeaway, listening to music etc. The whole idea of NB relies on being surrounded by a strictly gendered world that doesn’t actually exist.

That doesn’t mean the world isn’t sexist, it is but the idea of a “gender binary” that only super-special people are outside just adds to the sexism.

I find her language so cringeworthy. Full of rancid stereotypes. It makes her sound quite dated which I'm not sure is what she was aiming for.

Nobody does. Everyone is non binary if what it means is "doesn't always fit exactly into every sex stereotype all the time", which it does. It should be proof that gender is bollocks but somehow it's been used as a new one!

Someone in a shop had they/them pronouns on his name badge the other day. Polite, helpful, very nice man, all good, but he was so obviously a man it felt embarrassing. The black nail varnish and jewellery didn't stop him being very obviously and recognisably a man. They didn't give him any kind of non-male air. He was a man!

I’m sure lots of women don’t fit neatly into what’s expected of women, myself included. It’s so divisive, regressive and unhelpful to create this new category.

(It's really sad. Back in the 90's/00's this is exactly the sort of film I'd rush to see. How lovely, how tolerant/inclusive/brave etc. Now it feels precisely like Tick Boxes By The Numbers for maximum cookies. It's all pretty soulless and contrived. It's the kind of thing that makes me think - OC is an actor, if she works in that environment then obviously she knows lots of gay men.

You don't feel conventionally feminine; fine, none of us have a problem with that. That doesn't make you Jeff Stryker; your husband would feel the difference in a very sensitive place.

Agree. And who is it they are calling ‘meanies’? NHS nurses who are being forced to share changing rooms with these men? Little girls trying to use a supermarket toilet? Are they so wrapped up in their own privilege, they can’t imagine the unintended consequences of their views?

It's like when Victoria Cohen responded to the criticism of a man identifying as a woman on her tv show and called him a 'sweet quizzer'.

Are these women so utterly gormless that that don't see that it doesn't matter how sweet their dresses are nor how pretty their lippy is they are men and as such should stop trying to convince themselves and others that they are women and stop trying to get into women only areas.

Absurd. A strong woman and not conventionally pretty so she must be non binary. A real woman cant possibly be outspoken and not pretty.
